  1. Nah. There were half a dozen combinations in '05 that were worse. e.g., Hollandsworth/Hairston/Burnitz
  2. Browse the game logs. There isn't much compelling evidence that Marshall is harmed by following Hill in the rotation.
  3. Exactly. No one will be defending Marquis when he's paid $9 mil. to pitch mop-up out of the bullpen in '09.
  4. Yes, put that .220/.240 in the lineup over .270/.290. I'd put good money on them being as good or better than .270/.290. And there's more to it than BA. But I doubt we'll find out.
  5. Soto for Hill. Pie for Pagan. Play Pie & Murton and this team gets a lot better.
  6. Yeah, aside from the fact that he hasn't. Damn it DeRosa, what the hell What was his July ERA again? 6? Yeah, he's awesome. Look at his game log. He hasn't been as bad as you make him out to be. As I said in another thread, he's the best 5th starter in baseball too. You're right, I was wrong. He's been bad for 9 weeks. His June ERA was over 5 and his July ERA was over 6. Yeah, great, he can mix in one good start amidst 3 godawful ones. We should be lucky we have him for 3 years. 3 of his last 6 starts have been quality. No 5th starter in baseball has a better ERA than Marquis. Keep the hyperbole coming. Come on, Mizzou. "5th starter" is nonsense. That's a cherry picked fact. He's a bad starter. No contending team should have a 5th starter who pitches with an ERA above 5 for 2 straight months. You know better that that. He had a very good April and a decent May. He's fallen off a cliff since. Most teams don't pay $7 mil./yr for a 5th starter either.
  7. Wood's going to get his "soft landing" tonight.
  8. I'm expecting this injury to carry over into '08......maybe even for the life of his contract. As a Cub fan I'm expecting they will amputate it tomorrow. We can rebuild him. We have the technology... I remember when that only cost $6 million dollars. So how much will it cost to rebuild our $136 million dollar man? A very large insurance settlement wouldn't be the worst thing for the future of the team.
  9. I know why you are saying that, but I believe it's dead wrong. I believe we would have needed Sori to go on a prolonged hot streak to get to the playoffs anyway. If he's out, that has no chance of happening. Murton's not going to get more play time, if that's what you are thinking. Lou hates Murton, it's pretty clear. The current run has been accomplished with Soriano putting up some very mediocre numbers. Losing Sori would hurt but it doesn't mean the season's over. The current 'run' has actually been over for awhile now. We're 5-5 in our last 10 games. Soriano was extremely hot when we were actually hot as well, though not for the entire time, it takes multiple players getting hot to put together a prolonged streak like we had. Murton won't play more. Look for Pagan to get the play time. This lineup is now severely underpowered. If that works out, then fine. I still think it's a huge loss. Cubs are 5 over .500 for the last 30 days while Soriano has gone .268/.286/.435. He's a loss, but not too great of one if Pie and or Murton get the PAs instead of Pagan or Jones.
  10. If Soriano's heading to the DL... Murton/Jones, Pie & Floyd would be fine if Lou would just do it.

  13. Jacque 2/2 and no whiffs in CF in a nationally-televised game. Hendry should be on the phone right now.
  14. How many years left on Buck's contract?
  15. Looks like the heavier rain is going south.
  16. They'll probably stick it out for a long rain delay unless it becomes unplayable. Id rather take the cheap 5 inning win myself lol I'd take it.

  18. Wouldn't shock me to see 1 or 2 on that list being moved Glaus or Burrell; long shots would be Griffey, Vasquez. Why would the Phillies want to get rid of Burrell now? He hates it in Philly, they hate him in Philly, they have an inhouse cheap replacement, and ohh yeah, 13 million other reasons. They've been trying to give him away for free for years. It's a valid question. The Phillies are still in the playoff chase. Hated or not, under those circumstances you don't dump a productive player without getting something in return. Also, I don't recall Burrell ever saying anything about hating to play in Philly.
  19. There wasn't much outcry against the Lee/Choi trade on NSBB. Most of the objections revolved around addressing the area of greatest need and the use of resources (e.g., SS was a black hole). It's also important to keep in mind that Derek Lee was a 1-year rental at the time. He was due to become a FA at the end of that season. Fortunately Hendry signed him to an extension. If Choi had worked out and Lee had walked at the end of the season (both were reasonably potential outcomes), that trade would be regarded as a disaster now. CFP
  20. There's lots of time for the suckage that is the Phillies bullpen.
  21. Drats. Jacque's plan to drive in the run by hitting the ball right at the CFer is foiled.
