  1. Makes up for the fact that they were quite lucky last season. This is no different than last year. Hudson pretty much missed the end of last season and the playoffs, too. yeah, but last year they had Mr. career year Byrnes I still find it hilarious that they gave away Carlos Quentin so they could extend Byrnes. Whoops. Don't feel too bad, they did steal Chris Young away from CWS.... Plus the prospect they got from CWS for Carlos Quentin (Chris Carter) was packaged to Oakland in the Dan Haren trade. So there's no whoops....it worked out very well for the D'backs.
  2. Okay, what are your thoughts on Kyle Beach? and Do you think Akim Aliu see time with the team this year? Only if they don't fight each other.
  3. WTH? When I use the internet at work, I use it to keep up with important things, like the Cubs. So what's going on, what did I miss?
  4. Well we did lose head-to-head with the Rays, and I don't know if I want to face Anaheim. Let's just take care of the NL. In Tampa. If the Rays came to Chicago, I am pretty sure the Cubs would have swept them. As for Anaheim........they don't scare me one bit.
  5. Lou doesn't want to sit Fukudome, hence the reason why he went public with his frustration over Fuku's slump. Fuku is not a baby, nor should he be babied because he is in a new enviornment, etc, etc. Baseball is baseball, rather's it is play in Japan or US, pro or college. Fuku has to produce to balance out the lineup. I love his defense and his arm, but the Cubs signed him simply because he would bring a lefty presence to the middle of the order.
  6. You want to know what it will take to land K-Rod? Rivera signed within the past yr or so a 3 yr/$45 million dollar contract to retired a "Yankee." I promise you, K-Rod is going to want atleast what Rivera got---$15 mill per. He's a fantastic closer, but the Cubs already have three guys in their bullpen who can close for significanlty less coin (Wood/Marmol and Shark) then it would take K-Rod. In other words, look for a team like the Brewers to make a play for Rodriguez in the offseason.
  7. I predict Carpenter will throw some pitches the next inning.
  8. I don't understand the aggressiveness against a pitcher who is 2 starts removed (before tonight) from getting off the DL. IDK who's gameplan this was, but it is stupid. The Cubs need to make Carpenter throw atleast 4 pitches per batter, not 2.
  9. Well, last yr we DID lead the league in fou ball homeruns, lead by Uncle Cliff. So atleast they are keeping it.......fair?
  10. I think he's trying to put the proper pronunciation on the latin names. . . . he sounds like a goob when he does it. I remember him saying "Neifi Pay-rez" alot. He says that to every ballplayer with the last name of Perez. Miller makes it sounds like the ballplayer is getting a pay raise. Miller and Morgan are so bad......it's criminal.
  11. That lineup should easily put up at least 5 runs against Carp. Let's hope that is the case.
  12. Ok, Nationals you have scored on the Milwaukee Brewers what are you going to do now? Nats team: We're going to Point Place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. I think if the Padres don't pick up his option, he's a free agent after the season. And seeing as rumor has it that Towers offered up Giles to the Cubs before the deadline, and IMO had a deal in place for Giles to go to Boston--to which Giles vetoed---I get the distinct impression the Padres won't be picking up the option for next yr. So he could've gone to Boston for two months + chance to get a ring on his finger, asked them not to pick up his option, and returned to the West Coast. Epic fail. Why can't people accept the fact that there are players who have no desire to play for New York and/or Boston and/or East Coast, or West Coast, etc, etc. That doesn't mean he doesn't want to win. That doesn't mean he doesn't have the desire. It's just means he doesn't like Boston. But something tells me, if he is a FA this offseason, it wouldn't surprise if Giles ends up in St. Louis.
  14. Weren't we predicting an awesome win today too? Although I'm still cautiously optimistic about this game. FYI: The Cubs rarely loses more then once at home, as evident as the only two times this season the Cubs have lost back to back games at home are: March 31st and April 2nd against the Brewers, and July 25-26 against the Marlins. Plus throw in the fact that Carpenter has thrown a total of 118 pitches since coming off the DL AND 5IPs is the longest game he's started---I know it's been two games---the Cubs should win this game easily, considering he has faced the offensively challenged Dodgers---with Ramirez---and the Braves and now has to face the NL's best offensve. If the Cubs take a patient approach to Carpenter on Sunday, they should get him out of the game by no later then 4th, seeing as I doubt Duncan is going to push the envelop with Carpenter. Here's to the patience Cubs.

  16. I expect the Cubs to win this game comfortably. Someone mentioned 9-2, but I'm thinking something along lines of today's score, will be the final.
  17. Carpenter has to be a little peeve about today's performance by the Cards O, because he's likely only to 1-3 runs tomorrow. The Cubs are going to win tomoorw to move back to 7 games over the Cards.
  18. I'm just going to keep calling him Shark. Jefe for an American born player is blah.......at least it is to me...
  19. What's more frustrating for Cards and their fans? Losing games in the standings or Quickly running out of games?
  20. Jim Edmonds has 3 2 homerun games for the Cubs: June 21st against the White Sox: 11-7 victory for the Cubs July 31st, @ Milwaukee: 11-4 victory for the Cubs, plus he hit a Grand slam. August 8th against the Cards: 3-2 victory for the Cubs. So Jim Edmonds IS A CUB, because he brings the HEAVY BAT when it comes to the arch rivals....
  21. True, but Rose has as much of a case to be in the HOF as Santo. Look I am on board with the "Get Santo in the Hall" bandwagon, but I also believe Rose should be in the Hall, too. But Rose isn't held out of the HOF because of his statistics, so it's a poor argument. Especially when you have a guy with perfectly legitimate numbers that is held out of the HOF for no reason at all. Rose has as much of a case as anyone to NOT be in the HOF. rose bet on baseball. there are signs in every major league locker room in the game that say (in effect) DON'T BET ON BASEBALL. he did. i'm not saying that rose deserves to be in or doesn't deserve to be in, but everyone in the game knows that MLB is very, very serious about its players not gambling on games. rose chose to ignore that. I can't prove it or anything, but I doubt Rose was the only guy betting on baseball. He's the only one who got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. I would reinstate him for the sole purpose of electing him into the Hall of Fame.
  22. Makes sense. Giles would be a bench player at best in Boston. Boston is sneaky. They did this just to block the Rays, knowing that Giles had them on his no-trade list. Didn't matter. Tampa Bay is on the list of teams he could block a trade to. So if Boston doesn't put a claim on Giles, and TB did, I doubt Giles would have accepted a trade to TB.
  23. The guys who have great numbers against lefties, and are likely to clear waivers are from Baltimore -- Payton and Millar. And possibly Garciaparra from the Dodgers. Trade the guy they got from Philly for Eyre for either of them on August 30, and I like the deal. Dempster and Millar on the same team? I guarantee you, the Cubs will not be uptight/stiff team whatsoever. Anybody remember that MOCK feud Millar and Dempster had earlier this yr? I wouldn't opposed a Kevin Millar deal. And I am sure neither Lee or Dempster would either.
  24. This conflicts me.... On one hand people on THIS BOARD have said repeatedly that the W/L record for a pitcher is basically meaningless. Yet, we want to see Z possibly win 20 games. So which is it? Personally I don't mind if he wins 20 games (as it would look good on his resume), but I prefer that Z is rested and ready to go for the playoffs, instead of pushing himself to get 20 wins.
