I think if the Padres don't pick up his option, he's a free agent after the season. And seeing as rumor has it that Towers offered up Giles to the Cubs before the deadline, and IMO had a deal in place for Giles to go to Boston--to which Giles vetoed---I get the distinct impression the Padres won't be picking up the option for next yr. So he could've gone to Boston for two months + chance to get a ring on his finger, asked them not to pick up his option, and returned to the West Coast. Epic fail. Why can't people accept the fact that there are players who have no desire to play for New York and/or Boston and/or East Coast, or West Coast, etc, etc. That doesn't mean he doesn't want to win. That doesn't mean he doesn't have the desire. It's just means he doesn't like Boston. But something tells me, if he is a FA this offseason, it wouldn't surprise if Giles ends up in St. Louis.
