  1. So regardless of how many games get played this year, MLB is granting players a year of service time no matter what. Was wondering how they would handle that this year.
  2. Is his column called "Mish on Fish"?
  3. I really dislike parody songs like that, but I'll give credit where it's due, the lyrics work really well with that stupid song.
  4. Spotted a doc on Netflix about the Biogenesis scandal called Screwball. Its wacky, but it's good. Edit: this thing is horsefeathering wild. This is the McMillions of baseball
  5. It''s a start at least. Minor league players do have a lot of regular everyday costs covered a lot of the times (i.e. room and board, meals, transportation, etc.) and I believe they still get a per diem on the road. So even if it's still painfully low, it's at least a world of difference to a whole lot of these players, especially the ones coming from latin countries trying to provide a better life for them and their families. It's still insultingly low, but it's a step in the right direction.
  6. If you are to believe this MLB Network ranking, he's not THAT awesome
  7. yes, but cant they get better prospects? I mean, its MOOKIE BETTS for crying out loud. AND David Price. David Price is 34 years old and due almost $100m over the next 3 seasons. He's averaged about 2 fWAR over the last three years. Even if you bump him to 3 and he gets an NL boost... that's not prime prospect stuff. Betts is great, and you have him for 1 season: will he be the 10+ fWAR guy from 2018, the 8+fWAR guy from 2016, the 5+ fWAR guy from 2017, or the 6+ fWAR guy from 2019? Not to mention the 10+ WAR guy in 2018 is when the Sox were found out to be stealing signs and cheating. Betts didn't need any help, but you have to wonder if those inflated numbers were the result of that. And because of that they're probably about to lose a lot of draft picks. Trading a guy who rebuffed extensions and said he would test the market to help replenish your soon to be handicapped system was the right move, IMO. They can always try and resign him next year, too.
  8. Yeah, but weren't they trying to bring back Donaldson? It's possible they were trying to get him cheaper than what the Twins gave him, but he still would've, at the very least, cost what Bryant is costing this year and next.
  9. [insert joke about legal weed]
  10. You could argue that his floor would be a wash with Moreland but with it comes with considerably more upside, and that gamble gets you a premier prospect if you can swing it. Betts in San Diego would be kind of awesome, though.
  11. Apparently it stems from inactivity to not improve the team this offseason after they signed him to a huge extension. Basically seems like they paid for him, then closed up the pocketbooks and he feels disrespected that the team wasn't willing to continue to spend money or make impactful moves to improve the team around him, I suppose.
  12. @Logan, care to comment? More deceptive advertising. I know it looks like it's going to be about the Cubs, but really it's about the Brewers.
  13. The rich get richer
  14. The White Sox gave Luis Robert a $50 million extension.
  15. Fixed that. I used to be a catcher like you, but then I took a foul ball to the knee.
  16. Bryce Harper? Mookie Betts? I edited, "getting traded" was a pretty important qualifier. Yeah, even if you account for players who had extensions in place when they were traded, that is still only one player (Stanton).
  17. If I want to be especially hopeful, this is also a situation without much precedent. An MVP in his 20s with multiple years to free agency hasn't happened in the modern era. Maybe there's been others of similar quality that didn't quite win MVP, but 1) I'm too lazy to look that up and 2) I think the prestige is more than an arbitrary distinction. Bryce Harper? Mookie Betts?
  18. If you think Anthony Rizzo would get more on the open market per year than Bryce Harper, I’m not sure what to tell you. Why are you talking about $33 million? The Fangraphs dollar statistics I think
  19. Just got an ESPN notification saying that Rizzo's agent said the Cubs are not working on an extension with him and/or don't plan to. I don't know which. So there's that. The smart money says you probably shouldn't extend Rizzo at his age when he's a FA, but I love Rizzo and wish he would be a Cub for life.
