I was trying to figure out why Fangraphs had Max Muncy, who is having a very good year, as the #1 qualified 1B in the NL based on WAR despite him not being in the Top 3, and in some instances just outside the Top 5, of most of the important offensive categories among all 1B in the NL and I realize he's the only qualified 1B in the NL with a positive defensive rating. With a defensive rating of 1.5, he's 3.7 defensive rating points ahead of the 2nd best 1B, Pete Alonso and Christian Walker who have -2.2 ratings. Is Muncy really that good at 1B defense, or is this just another case of defensive metrics sucking for 1B?
