  1. Does everyone ignore Bedard's injury history based on his one dominating year where he was also injured? You know, Rich Hill was 27 this year, and Bedard was 27 in 2006 (his first non-injured year and, also, his only non-injured year in his 4 full year career) and their numbers weren't too far off. (insert "Bedard is in a harder division" counter defense here) I'd be too wary of giving up too much for a guy who has only been able to stay healthy for one year this far in his career when we could be sitting on someone who has the potential to put up similar numbers. I'm not saying Bedard wouldn't be a good addition, but giving up so much for him just seems like a big mistake. And since they won't expect anything but the best for him, meaning Hill or Pie, I say stay away. I'm not a huge fan of Blanton, but I don't think he'd cost nearly as much as Bedard, and I personally would rather see Z-Lilly-Hill-Blanton-Marquis/Dempster/Whoever other than Z-Bedard-Lilly-Marquis-Dempster/whoever (and yes, I'm aware of Blanton's home/road splits). But that's just me
  2. Thought this line was funny from Matthew Pouliot's Winter League rundown on Vinny Castilla  Thought I'd share if anyone missed it.
  3. http://www.sportsargumentwiki.com/index.php?title=Gabe_Kapler http://gabekaplerfails.ytmnd.com/ Good times, Gabe Kapler. Good times.
  4. Strange. Maybe now that they've backed off of Kuroda we can go after him
  5. Graham Wellington
  6. Hahah. Yes, it was just two days, honest. Hahahahahah. Well at least he admitted *something* I hate Andy Pettite, and the ridiculous "Great Pitcher" love he gets from everyone just because he was a Yankee with a lot of wins. Have any of these people actually looked at his numbers? They're not that spectacular. It ticks me off when people refer to him as an elite pitcher. I'm glad this knocks him down a bit.
  7. Already a post about this topic in the Transactions forum. :) viewtopic.php?f=6&t=45945
  8. Kevin Brown's name isn't sexy enough
  9. I'm trying to think, was there even a rumor that the Cubs were interested in Greene, or is all this Greene/Pie speculation based solely off the stir it caused when Meph said we should trade Pie for Greene? I don't recall seeing any rumors about it
  10. I think whoever wins the NL Central is going to be the team who ends up with the best record in that division. [/McCarver]
  11. Jeter would've been great. I just hate how he's considered the face of baseball even though he's clearly not the best player in baseball, and for him to be implicated would be so so sweet. I would've liked to see some more people who you never would expect because of their stature and sucktitude, like Izturis or Pierre
  12. no, it proves he started doing them in 2003. when he stopped is unknown. A statement by someone who isn't Brian Roberts says that in 2004 Roberts admitted that he did it once or twice in 2003 and at the same time in the report said Roberts never tried them before when they lived together, and he never thought he used them before, to me, says that Roberts tried them on a couple occasions one season to try and get an edge and then stopped. But it's all heresay and can be interpreted any way someone wants it to be until Roberts himself comes clean. IMO though, judging from Bigbie's words, it seems like Roberts was just trying to see if they would give him an edge and he didn't care for them and stopped using, but whatever.
  13. Nathan would be nice, but do we really need him, especially with what he would likely cost in players traded away?
  14. Does Greinke still want to be a reliever? I noticed he started at the end of this year after moving to the bullpen. I'd wouldn't mind Greinke. Cheap, young, loads of upside. Probably would take a bit to get him, but he'd be a nice addition whether it'd be to the rotation or the bullpen
  15. So Taguchi is 38? Holy crap, I thought he was like 26
  16. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3153685 Reports: Illinois sports agency in talks with Cubs to acquire Wrigley Field
  17. Congrats, Weske. Those are nice looking prizes. Looking back, I am ashamed of my picks... Juan Rivera? Luke Scott? Ensberg? Seriously me? What were you thinking, I know better than this. lol. Congrats again on the win. Will the Felix Pie bat be held over for next year's competition? EDIT: Hmmmmmm, BBCode is disabled on this thread? Oh well
  18. Well the 80's couldn't stop Rick Ainstely, so I dunno about that. It's Astley, not Ainstely. Rick Astley has officially given up on you, something he swore he'd never do. but..we've known each other for so long... You let him down. Now he's turning around and deserting you. Okay, I'm done.
  19. Second hand testimony about something Roberts admitted about using twice in 2003 shouldn't drive his price down, sadly. All it proves is that Roberts got good when he didn't do roids. He sucked in 2003, got good in 2005, as he was beginning to enter his prime. The fact that he is simply on the list will probably cause people to give less in trade offers for him, but in all honesty his situation is a load of crap. It's "he said, he said" crap, and the admittance wasn't even that significant
  20. You beat me to the punch with the faux enthusiasm.
  21. Didn't Canseco say that Albert Belle definitely did NOT use steroids? Also, I'm glad to see people like Lee, Ramirez, Soriano, and Zambrano NOT on the list. Then again some names might still be listed, but I'm glad so far. I'm also glad Griffey is not on there. If he were on there I think I might have been a bit devastated.
  22. PuppyPower, PowPowPowPowPower, SuperPower, NintendoPower, PiePower. Last one might make more sense.
  23. Well the 80's couldn't stop Rick Ainstely, so I dunno about that. It's Astley, not Ainstely. Rick Astley has officially given up on you, something he swore he'd never do.
  24. Wow, to be honest, I don't buy these projections for one second. How long ago were these projections made? Jones is still on the team? Dempster is still the closer? I don't know, some of these seem kind of loopy to me. The day Mike Fontenot puts up better/similar numbers than Daryle Ward is the day I will intentionally poop my pants in befuddlement. That and Bill James has a crush on Rich Hill. I wish he didn't, these projections will get my hopes up. I'll be expecting Cy Young numbers out of him instead of acceptable above average ones.
