  1. I definitely see the Twins signing him. They have no power hitters outside of Justin Morneau, they need someone like Frank Thomas more than any other team in the majors
  2. I immediately suspected Khalil Greene as the poster child for this topic as well. I'm convinced if Khalil Greene played for a different team in a ballpark that wasn't a pitchers haven he'd be widely considered to be one of the best all around shortstops in the game. He wants to sign a long term deal, and by doing so he is potentially killing what could be a superstar career outside of Petco. He'll always be an amazing defensive shortstop wherever he plays, but he'll never be an amazing offensive shortstop playing in a pitchers park half the year. So yeah, I think ballpark does determine whether or not a player could be over/undervalued. Easily. Matt Holiday's road splits aren't as MVP inducing as his overall numbers would indicate. They're not bad by any means, but he owns Coors Field, but doesn't come close to the numbers he puts up there on the road
  3. Reading this thread makes me happy. I hope I can read a thread about team stats as positive and as inspiring as this one at the end of the year.
  4. Because the media is dumb. Hill has given up 6 ER in 14IP good for a 3.86 ERA. He is the least of our worries, but the media seems to think he's doomed for some unknown reason. Meanwhile Ted Lilly has given up 19ER in 18.7IP (.7?) good for a 9.16ERA, but there's nothing wrong withhim, just some bad outings, he'll get back on track no problem. But Hill, yeah, his arm's gonna explode into a million pieces if he doesn't get better.
  5. Unless they are getting a legitimate starting SS (think Khalil Greene), I think that is ridiculous. With Marmol and Wood pitching like they have for the most part, the game is over after 7 innings. Marmol is making peanuts and you lose Howry and Eyre next season (and their contracts) and maybe Wood if he gets hurt or they don't offer him enough cash. Unless Wuertz or someone else morphs into Marmol-like domination, you have a crappy end of game situation next year without Marmol. But would we have a World Series Championship this year? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. But yeah, if someone randomly stepped up and showed Marmol-esque dominance, I'd consider floating Marmol's name out there to see what people would at the very least offer just to see what he's worth. If not, no point in losing him
  6. Marissa Miller, SI and general model. I wonder what Demp's wife thought about that little move? Dempster would have the coolest wife ever if she said "Bring her home with you"
  7. Just think if he played 1B instead. Hu's on first. =D> I think if I were a manager of whatever team he plays for I'd make him start there randomly every once in a blue moon just for that reason alone
  8. Is that Erin Andrews?
  9. In other news, the Earth rotates on an axis
  10. I'm surprised no one has made a So Taguchi like response and said something like "Hu is that?" Well crap I guess I just did.
  11. That's kind of what I initially thought was the reason for his call up over Murton after thinking about the reasons why. When you think about it, it sounds exactly like something the Cubs would do
  12. Sounds like he should be starting then. How exactly can you be "bred" as a starter? Marmol hasn't been a starter for quite some time. I doub't the work he did some years ago in the minors is really having much of an impact now. It was a figure of speech, and Marmol was in the minors at the beginning of last year starting games. So yeah, he was considered a starting pitcher pretty much exactly one year ago today. He didn't turn into a reliever until he kicked butt when he was called up last May. I'm sure he still has some starter qualities about him. So in the end, when we're complaining that we're using our starters in the pen for short inning relief, and using Marmol for long relief when he's not a starter, he actually kind of was a starter. For 4 and a half years. Until May of last season. So yeah, I think he can handle the work load (arm strength/health wise) as long as it's every other week and not every other day like some people are concerned about
  13. Marmol was bred to be a starter in the minors. He wasn't primarily used for short relief stints until his call up last year when he blossomed into a dominating middle reliever. He has the makeup of a starter, him throwing 40 pitches won't kill him if they're spread out between an inning of work here or there throughout the week. He's an athletic guy, I'm sure he can handle it once every other week if he needs to. He threw 42 against Milwaukee a couple weeks ago, took a day off, and then pitched the next three consecutive games and shut it down. I think some people might be overreacting about Marmol's over usage. He was brought up with the intent on being a starter, throwing anywhere from 80-120 pitches a game on average 32 times a year or so . This won't kill him if he's given adequate rest.
  14. There's one flaw in that snippet. They imply that Andruw Jones is actually better than that
  15. I think deep down inside, every baseball fan for every team would embrace the addition of Barry Bonds. They may not at first, and they may be upset at the cost of him being on the team, and not like his attitude, blah blah yadda yadda yadda, but once he brings that middle aged 1.000+OPS to the lineup, I'm willing to bet most fans of whatever team he would join would change their tune very quickly.
  16. Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh........ welcome?
  17. Nothing like adding another washed up catcher to the roster and use him in a way to block Joey Votto even more! I kind of, sort of, actually do hope this happens. A lot
  18. I just think it's a top of the order thing. The Cubs want a guy who could lead off and they thought the best choice is Patterson. Their one dimensional thinking led to this imo, not a dislike of Murton. "We like Murton, we think he's gonna be a great ballplayer. Life would be a lot easier if Matt were a switch hitter, an emergency catcher, ran a 4 minute mile and made a mean guacamole dip." Fiesta Night at Wrigley would be awesome, but it will never come to fruition because of Matt Murton
  19. True, but no one has been arguing for stretching a double into a triple as the result of hustling. then remind me what's the point in hammering on Aramis for his double? Thinking you hit a homerun when it really is a double increases the chances you get thrown out at second. It is one of my pet peeves. Would your head explode if our team looked like this LF: Manny Ramirez CF: Ken Griffey Jr. RF: Barry Bonds 3B: Aramis Ramirez 2B: Alfonso Soriano SS: Alex Rodriguez 1B: Ryan Howard C: Mike Piazza No it wouldn't. We are not comparing one player with another. We are comparing what one player could do compared to what they same player could do if he ran harder. I wasn't comparing, I was making an observation about your pet peeve of players who watch their home runs, and by all means these players tend to watch their home runs more often than not
  20. And by that measure there isn't a whole lot of trying in baseball since there isn't a whole lot of running, either. I'm confused. What does all this have to do with Soriano's leg injury anyways? Shouldn't this stuff be split into a different thread? And hasn't there been 50 dozen Lazy Aramis threads already anyways?

  22. Not ours though. I mean after all, we have a great left fiel.... oh yeah he's injured, well we could use a great replacement left fielder like Matt Mur... Eric Patterson?
  23. I don't know who it was, but in one of the NSBB leagues last year, someone would always try and makes trades like that, and when they would get rejected, they'd drop the players he tried to trade. It's like he was planning on dropping them all along but decided to put them out there and see if anyone was dumb enough to bite. And they would always play the hot hand and pick up whoever had a good game and drop whoever had a bad one. In the end they made like 120+ transactions.
  24. Who is David Wright and what are these Mets you guys keep talking about?
  25. First off, it's good to hear you left the league and wouldn't stand for it. Second off, however, the idiot who wants to trade for Helton and Bannister and give away Berkman and Dunn for them deserves to be demolished on all accounts. Berkman is the #1 player on Yahoo right nowand Dunn is a sure fire 900+OPS guy. Helton is in the downswing of his career and Bannister could be a fluke, and this guy wanted to trade for them? That guy is an idiot, and deserves to be swindled. But since this trade came about in a shady way, vetoing and quitting is exactly what I would've done too. I wonder what the next move he would've tried had been
