  1. We should hire Krivsky as a scout.......
  2. This has been posted already in the general baseball discussion forum, fwiw
  3. Oswalt is done. He can't break 90. He definitely seems like he's on the downswing of his career, not the power pitcher he once was. Still good? Yeah, but not as good as he used to be, and he's only getting worse as the years roll on, and with that contract I wouldn't give up top young players for him
  4. 5/3 @ 8pm Sure is, thank you. Just set it up to record.
  5. Would like to know this as well, wanted to record it but I was out of town and couldn't get a hold of my roommate to set it up on the DVR.
  6. I'm gonna let him play out his next start, if it's craptastic, he's getting dropped
  7. I believe the phrase is "Even a blind squirrel will find a nut every once and a while"?
  8. That's absurd. I'm surprised no one lost their temper on that one, I'd have been livid. Sometimes I think umpires think a certain play is going to end a certain way, like he thought it was going to be an out, and was thinking that from the get go, so he was intent on calling it out, and when it happened he was safe he got confused and accidentally called him out, and even though he knew he made a mistake he had to stick by it or else he would look bad, even though he probably looks worse now
  9. Why would they want donkeys in their crowd?
  10. What about... Sean Gallagher Matt Murton Ronny Cedeno Sean Marshall and Jose Ceda for Brian Roberts :tomato:
  11. I thought Neifi was the replacement player that WARP and VORP reference
  12. I'm surprised not a single person made one marijuana joke in this thread.
  13. I drafted him in one of my leagues, held onto him when he was in the minors, and continued to hold onto him despite dropping some pitchers who were performing a bit better despite his struggles, banking on his potential. Does anyone think he's gonna bounce back soon? there's still some decent arms left in the FA pool in my league, but I don't want to drop any of my offensive players, nor do I want to drop any of my other pitchers. Should I hold onto Liriano, or do you guys think he could be a bust for a few months before he snaps out of it, thus meaning I should drop him for currently greener pastures?
  14. Hats off to both of you for making me laugh with your responses. =D>
  15. I feel very sorry for your favorite team
  16. Fixed. It can't be common knowledge because no one has the knowledge that he ever actually did anything (or at least come forward with it)
  17. nobody cares about your fantasy team. rawr. And why would you draft Ben Sheets anyway? Sorry Roast, but that wasn't the smartest pick. Predicting Sheets goes down with an injury is like predicting... He was probably a late round pick. In one of my drafts he didn't go until the 16th round, likely because of the injury isues. When you're that late in a draft and you're thinking "I need a pitcher, who should I choose Ben Sheets or John Koronka?"* I think the choice is clear despite injury concerns * John Koronka is not a good fantasy option, and was used solely as an example of the quality of pitchers left over in late rounds drafts
  18. Thought I'd add this dream number. Just for funsies, let's say the Cubs average 80 team walks every 20 games. If I did the math correctly (I definitely did not get good grades in it), we'd come out to around 648 walks this season (162/20 x 80?), up 148 walks from last season's 500, which ranked 2nd to last in the NL, while that 648 would've ranked first ladt year in the NL, besting Philadelphia's 641 walks by 7. Also, there were only two teams last year with 600 or more walks, Phillies and Rockies (622). So even if we break 600, we'll likely still be among the Top 5 teams in walks. Insanity
  19. And kind of alienates Girardi in the process... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3356490 Also kind of took a jab at Mussina... I'm not going to say I disagree with him necessarily, but the way he handles these situations is quite obnoxious. Nothing like demeaning your staff and players to start the day off right! "Hey Joe, you starting Joba yet?" "No. Not yet, let's give it another week or two." "You're an idiot." "Hey Mike, you're need to change your approach" "Well I'm working on it but I've been pretty good in my career with how I've pitched" "Screw off, you're out of the rotation. True, I've never been a manager before, but I know what's best!" Seriously why doesn't he just fire Girardi and don the manager uniform? Then again he's got the position and the power we all wish we had on the Cubs, but still. His arrogance is old already
  20. Lee and 1.133 OPS wants a word with you. There is no question that Fukudome, DeRosa, and Soto are all hitting above expectations, but Ramirez is not slouching with his .915 OPS either. Lee? Who is that? Seriously though, I said majority because 3 out of our 4 productive hitters were in the 5-6-7 spots. And Aramis' OPS before yesterdays game was .797. So yeah, the majority of our productive hitters were the 5-6-7 hitters so far this year mostly. Hopefully Aramis is starting to come around to his normal self, and Theriot and Johnson keep playing out of their minds, and we'll have one of the best lineups in baseball (until some players fall back down to earth)
  21. You should probably be more mad at yourself for counting on Eric Gagne as a fantasy reliever. I am, and I was thinking about how mad I was when I was dropping him last night
  22. Eric Gagne kicked my dog. And by kicked my dog I mean he made me lose my ERA and WHIP categories in Fantasy Baseball this week. Not that I care, my fantasy team's success comes in at a distant 2nd to the Cubs success. Thanks for the helping us widen the gap for now, Eric
  23. Someone brought it up a while back about him possibly being a serviceable short stop this year and made a good point that Theriot was actually a pretty solid offensive SS last year until he crapped out in September. On August 21st he was hitting .281/.342/.707. That's not incredible by any means but you can't expect Hanley Ramirez numbers out of every shortstop. There's only a handful of elite hitting shortstops in the majors, and everyone else is pretty mediocre. I'd be satisfied with a .280/.340/.700 season from Theriot, I just don't want that kind of offense hitting at the top of the order and that's where I think a big problem lies as far as he is concerned. That kind of hitting is better suited for the 7th or 8th spot in the lineup. Then again it might be good at this juncture to let sleeping dogs lie. The majority of our most productive hitters so far have been in the 5-6-7 hole, while Theriot has typically been at the top. It's weird, I'm glad he's producing, but part of me is expecting massive failure (not that I want it) for him. Here's hoping he keeps it up, "hope" being the key word
  24. I remember someone posting world series vegas odds before spring training started and I saw Arizona at 19:1 and thought to myself that I should put $100 on that bet because those are pretty darn good odds. I thought last year was kind of a fluke year since they were so young, but it appears they are for real, and damn if they aren't going to be an outstanding team for the next few years with that young talent on their team.
