  1. 1) I hate it when people call Mark Cuban the "maverick owner" as if they're making a clever pun because he owns the Mavericks. This is done far too often and has become far too annoying, but that's another thread in another forum for another time. 2) Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it established that Canning was out as one of the potential buyers? SSR is right, this article sounds like it came several months too late to the party
  2. Damn this is too close for comfort. Also, not to nitpick, but wouldn't Carlos Quentin be the wild card leader?
  3. Jayson Stark is doing a That's Debatable right now about which playoff contender would have the best playoff rotation, and he gives the case for several teams, including the Cubs, and comes to this conclusion: Pretty cool info about the VORP part. I didn't know that http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=22114
  4. We should try to sign him in the offseason to that minor league deal :) I bet my brother is pissed now that he has his autographed Mark Prior jersey hanging from his wall that he begged me to buy him for Christmas a couple years ago. I tried to warn him and say that he may not pitch for the Cubs in a year or two, but noooo, Mark Prior is a God
  5. I noticed it over the last few games I've been able to catch. When did he go from having that flat footed stance to looking like Aramis Ramirez with the propped up shin? Has he been doing this all year? I don't recall him standing like this earlier in the season. Just curious
  6. I'm willing to bet he'll sign for something like 3/35 or 4/45. We should start a contest pool
  7. It even had me going when it said "Former major leager"
  8. Glad he's not going to be affected by it
  9. For some reason I thought this was going to be an article on which pitcher throws the most effective curveball, and I was hoping to see Barry Zito's name left off the list to continue his fall from notability... Shucks
  10. I think if Z pitches Game 1 and pitches like Cy Young again, Lou should pull him after 4 innings this year instead
  11. Most Youngiest Player? He's too old for that
  12. Thank you Grady Sizemore for juicing up my fantasy stats today. Sweet Jeebus... 4/5 1HR 7RBI 1SB. Thanks Grady!
  13. Front-runners? Is that supposed to be an insult? I don't get it. Every time I hear that word I think of someone or some people who are, for all intents and purposes, at the top of whatever the topic is
  14. Or at least make it to where a Brewers fan would actually want to buy it. It's supposed to be a Brewers shirt, yet Brewers colors are missing, and any words such as "Milwaukee" or "Brewers" are also vacant. Who would want to buy a shirt not in team colors that says "Untuckem" on it?
  15. MVP isn't who did the best in the 2nd half. Although he has sucked hard, the entire season is what is going to be looked at. No one that votes will even know he has had a terrible 2nd half. Well then couple it with the fact that his team will likely be nowhere near contention. With recent trends, the MVP usually comes form a team that is either in the playoffs, or came close to being in the playoffs. The Astros won't even be close. And with players like Pujols, Utley, and Braun having such good years I don't think Berkman would get much consideration because of his team's inadequacies. Even though some of the other candidates haven't been that much better the 2nd half either
  16. Am I the only one who thinks those are hardly any different from the current ones? The home jersey is the same as the current one, minus pinstripes, adding names, slightly different logo. Looks like the old jerseys Road jersey if the same with a different font Alternate jersey is the same with the addition of a red stripe on the sleeve There is no road alternate (as far as I know) The BP jersey's are the same These jersey's have only minute differences than the ones we have now. Why is there serious discussion about the audacity of these?
  17. Lance Berkman shouldn't even be in the Top 5. A big first half has made him a favorite, but he has sucked some serious scrotum the 2nd half. in 334 pre-ASB at bats: .347/.443/.653/1.096 22HR 73RBI 15SB in 109 post-ASB at bats so far: .266/.375/.413/.788 3HR 16RBI 0SB Unless he goes on a tear like he did the first half, he shouldn't even be in the talks for the Top 5 MVP. He has played like crap the 2nd half
  18. Grady Sizemore is teh s3x0r
  19. Damn you, brinoch!!!!! Okay, desperate times call for desperate measures. This will either be the best move I make all year, or the nail in my own coffin.......... Post ASB Transaction #2: Drop Derrek Lee Add Jermaine Dye
  20. Link Interesting read.
  21. I have a friend in Atlanta whose uncle is part of the 755 club. As long as he has the card as many people that are with him can go. Like 6 of us went, it was boss. Only paid $7 for a nosebleed seat and got into the 755 club. Good times
  22. The media fascination with Steve Bartman and the general neglect of Alex Gonzalez regarding the 2003 blunder
  23. Jim Duquette is the guy who traded Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano, it doesn't surprise me that he's too dumb to realize Volquez isn't a rookie. Speaking of the ROTY candidates, there was a thread about whether or not Jurrjens would get it over Soto. Is Jorge Campillo considered a rookie? I know he pitched on three different occasions in the past, but he only has like 17IP over those three MLB stints. He's been better than Jurrjens this year.
