  1. Easier said than done, we're required to have 4 WR and RB, and 2 QB, TE, K, and DEF. We start 2 RB and WR, and one of everyone else, the backups serve only to fill in in the starters bye weeks. We can't have any more than the allotted amount of players for each position. So I can't drop my backup kicker or defense and pick up another QB or RB. The league is set up to avoid cherry picker drafters who will pick all the best players of a certain position to give them an unfair advantage in trading for players. It takes that strategy away from people who may think of drafting a bunch of one position early on in hopes of trading their excess for other teams better players at other positions When you have 12 teams selecting 4 WR and RB over the course of 16 rounds... there tends to be a big lump of crap around round 7 or 8. Maurice Morris will be solely a fill in when Larry Johnson or Westbrook have a bye week, and he was one of the only RB's left on the board who was actually still pegged as the starting RB for a team. Actually, he was the last RB on the board with that distinction. Actually, Ahman Green will get the fill in before him, so he's solely a "If he performs well, lucky me" pick. Effective WR's were pretty much gone by round 7 as well
  2. that's a hollow victory if they overturn the call. NO-NO! YOU GOT IT WRONG! HE MADE AN ERROR DAMNIT! WHAT ARE YOU BLIND! Don't really hear of people sending in an appeal to give someone on your own team an error. Jeez, he pitched like a mad man, take the win and be done with it
  3. There's been a rash of mistitled threads intended for humorous results. I enjoy them. Every thread I start is going to be like that now! I wish I broke the Z dead arm post... "Carlos Zambrano is dead..." "In his arm and will get a few days more of rest to stay fresh"
  4. I agree. We had a 10 minute time limit because some people couldn't be at a computer because of the hurricane threat, so we were calling and texting back and forth. What ticked me off the most is when people would spend 5 minute selecting a backup tight end or kicker. There were 8 of us at my place doing this draft (out of 12 teams) and we were waiting on two people who took their sweet time making their backup picks, and they were 4 picks in a row in a snake draft (1-2). Thanks for the Cotchery ego boost, lol. My league has this cool feature that analyzes the drafts and ranks them and gives a fake news report regarding the draft. it's pretty cool, this is what mine said... Yeah, I took Bulger early. I'm hoping for a comeback year.
  5. While that is surprising, I think his broken wrist earlier in the year might have a lot to do with his disappointing season. He probably wouldn't have gotten it anyways with the way Longoria was playing. Longoria's injury was the only saving grace for anyone to take the ROTY award away. Chamberlain would've been my pick but then he got injured. I think unless Longoria comes back and performs really well, Armando Galarraga should currently be the front runner
  6. LT went first, AP went second. I took Westbrook 3rd. Thanks guys. There were some wacky picks in my draft, lots of homer picks (Saints). 4 straight QB's with the 4, 5, 6, and 7 picks in the first round. Here's what my team looks like... 12 team league... don't criticize some of my draft position picks, I know I made some weird ones. I don't know much about football. I selected the 49'ers as my backup D because the list was in alphabetical order when I thought it was in ranked order. First number is bye week Bulger, Marc STL QB - 5 5.03 Cutler, Jay DEN QB - 8 8.10 Green, Ahman HOU RB - 8 10.10 Johnson, Larry KCC RB - 6 3.03 Morris, Maurice SEA RB - 4 13.03 Westbrook, Brian PHI RB - 7 1.03 Colston, Marques NOS WR - 9 2.10 Cotchery, Jerricho NYJ WR - 5 6.10 Mason, Derrick BAL WR - 10 11.03 Porter, Jerry JAC WR - 7 12.10 Clark, Desmond CHI TE - 8 14.10 Gates, Antonio SDC TE - 9 4.10 Elam, Jason ATL PK - 7 16.10 Gostkowski, Stephen NEP PK - 4 9.03 49ers, San Francisco SFO Def - 9 15.03 Bears, Chicago CHI Def - 8 7.03
  7. I didn't even know they had a road cap.
  8. Time to call Rey Sanchez out of retirement!
  9. I'm in a keeper league and have been for a few years, but I admit I don't follow football hardly at all outside of the season. I have the 3rd pick in the first round of our draft tomorrow, and I know for a fact LT is going first. We didn't keep any players from lat year however, because we expanded to two divisions, so everyone starts from scratch this year Who is going 2nd is still a mystery. I wouldn't be surprised if it were Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, but that leaves me with a dillema... Do I select one of those two quarterbacks, or the other top available running back? Who would you draft if the 1st two draft picks were these people in these hypothetical situations... Situation #1: 1) LT 2) Peyton Manning 3) ????? Situation #2: 1) LT 2) Tom Brady 3) ?????? Situation #3 1) LT 2) Brian Westbrook 3) ?????? Situation #4 1) LT 2) Steven Jackson 3) ??????? Not concerned with point systems, just want peoples opinions on who they would take if they were in my position. Thanks guys
  10. I said it before and I'll say it again... there needs to be a Pat/Ron or Brenley/Kasper big game call stickied thread. After every major hit there is always a thread asking for one or the other. It think it would be awesome if we had an archive of each call in one thread, labeled for what game and hit was being called
  11. imagine how much more ridiculous his number for that stat would be if he didn't have those few atrocious outings
  12. Gooz gets Howry's spot first. Am I the only one who doesn't trust Guzman to be an effective reliever? Do you trust him less than Howry? I don't think anybody is investing anything into Guzman beyond hoping that he does prove to be an effective reliever over the next few weeks, because that would be a nice way to round out our bullpen and replace Howry. I don't think people necessarily believe he will, but I, for one, believe he can and hope he will... I would rather have someone other than Howry, I'm just wondering if Guzman is the answer to bringing in an effective replacement. Do we not have other pitchers who would fit better than him? The guy's only pitched like 15 innings this year, but I continually see people on here hoping that they give Guzman a spot over anyone else that's available to call up. I'd rather get someone in there who has been pitching effectively all year as opposed to a guy who just started pitching again after being out for a year. My dead grandfather could be more effective than Howry, that's not the point I'm getting at. I'm just wondering if there was another pitcher who would probably be a much wiser decision to call up
  13. What happened to everyone except Magglio and Cabrera I wonder. Cabrera has actually performed better than I had expected, to be honest. But yeah the restof that team is an anomaly. They should've torched the AL
  14. Whenever they make the playoffs, the locals will come out in the thousands and pack that stadium and pretend like they've been Rays fans their whole lives. Theyu did the same thing when the Bucs suddenly got competitive. I grew up there my whole life, and I can honestly say one of the Top 3 reasons I really hate the state of Florida is fairweather fans. No one went to go see Bucs games when they sucked. No one went to see Magic games when they sucked. No one saw Heat games when they sucked. No one saw Marlins games when they sucked (or when they're good for that matter). I don't think anyone even knew the Lightning were in the playoffs until they made it to the Stanley Cup. I don't follow Jacksonville Jags so I don't know about their fans. Pretty much the only professional team in Florida that draws a reasonable crowd and has consistently drawn a reasonable crowd is the Miami Dolphins. Though I don't follow football as much as I used to so I don't know what they attendance is like lately. Florida is a collegiate sport state. Those are the only sports that get 100% support from their fans week in and week out
  15. "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister, anyone?
  16. http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/7ec3592241549f73db38978e27c1ac48642728c.jpg That's pretty funny
  17. Gooz gets Howry's spot first. Am I the only one who doesn't trust Guzman to be an effective reliever?
  18. Baseball Prospectus correctly predicted the fall of Travis Hafner. However, they predicted it'd be a 22HR season or so, not an injury riddled 4HR season. Although they were spot on in his decline. They don't expect him to be worth a damn in the next 2-3 years. All of his comparables were players who peaked in their typical prime years and then fell of the earth after their prime and didn't last much longer after that. Seems like he's fitting the mold
  19. Then he's an inspiration for fat men everywhere. A man who gives fat men hope that they too can potentially be the greatest, sexiest person in sports/the world
  20. I liked the Red Sox before they won the World Series. I rooted like hell for them when they made it there. Now I want to blow up Fenway. Winning and becoming the best definitely changes another team's fans perspective on certain teams. I'm sure a lot of the non-Cubs fans who root for the Cubs, will grow to hate the Cubs if they win the World Series, and continue to do well afterwards
  21. Back onto serious business involving Soto.... Do the Cubs give him an extension this year and buy out his arbi years and first year or two of FA, or do they wait another year or two before offering an extension?
  22. Man... Aramis used to be pretty fat. Wicked haadcoah video though. Thanks for that
  23. That was another thing that was ridiculous. A 7 game series, at the most, would probably last 9 or 10 days or so, if that. pitchers go on 5 days rest regularly, and can often go on 3 days rest in emergency situations. Would you really want to start your ace 3 times in 9 days? What happens in the next series when he's too fatigued to be effective? That's a horrible horrible idea, IMO
  24. I like how the Brewers fans justify Ben Sheets by saying he started the All-star game. There couldn't be a more meaningless statistic to throw in to justify a player's ability.
