  1. !!? Hahahahahahahah Ryan Ankiel Pujols GREENE Ludwick Molina Duncan Barden Wainwright Greene batting cleanup is, of course, highly amusing. But I think Schumaker not being in there is possibly more surprising. Well it is a lefty on the mound. But yeah, didn't they move him to 2nd to help keep his bat in the line up? Also I think I read that he has something like 2 extra base hits vs. Lefties in his entire career. Skip Schumaker made 6 errors at 2B this spring. He's gonna be atrocious this season in the field... I fully expect him to be relegated to bench duties because of it.
  2. Gammons said they were going to win 83-90 games last night on baseball tonight. I could see right around 80. And that's if guys like Hochevar realize their potential. Gordon and Butler too. A lot of things need to go right for them in order to contend, but the chancesd of that happening are slim. If Gordon and Butler play like they have been expected to, and Teahen puts it together again, and Aviles wasn't a fluke, and the rotation holds up decently enoughb they could have a shot. But like dew said it's a longshot
  3. !!? Hahahahahahahah I don't mean to inflate Meph's ego, but I honestly think Greene is going to have a really good season. Maybe not cleanup hitter good, but good enough to maybe match Ankiel's numbers from last year
  4. It's at somewhere around 114. The fifth should be his last inning in. But it's dusty - so it won't be. Surprisingly it will be. Micah Owings is set to pinch hit for him. lol How inadequate must you feel as a bench player for the Reds that your manager has chosen another pitcher to pinch hit for someone instead of you. I understand Owings is a good hitter, but come on.
  5. I'd like to thank the fools in one of my fantasy leagues for thinking Santana was going to be injured and allowing him to drop all the way down to me in the 2nd round at pick #25
  6. I hate Metallica, but that video got my blood pumping

  9. He said the same thing after playing in Milwaukee vs. Houston. I think there's a broad line between "I want a new stadium" and "I want a new clubhouse" that Z has completely mixed up. One of which can be fixed relatively cheaply in comparison, while the other cannot. One is something fans won't care too much about, the other is. Z needs to reword his statements as I think it's fairly obvious he just wants a new clubhouse. But of course there will be dolts who will be up in arms about this because they don't read between the lines
  10. I noticed they gave Schafer the starting job. How does he project as an offensive CF'er?
  11. It doesn't not make sense to trade those guys, but it also doesn't make sense to trade those guys. 1) Bedard is the only valuable commodity out of those players capable of returning any sort of MLB of future MLB talent, but even then he's a FA at the end of the season, so they likely won't get much out of him 2) Batista, Beltre, and Washburn are all in the last year of their contracts, and none of them will get the M's any sort of valuable return as rental trades 3) They're basically now deciding to trade away their veterans, but all they will be is half season rentals. The only point this would make is to free up salary room, but all that salary will be freed up after the season is over anyways, and they likely would be on the hook for at least part of what is owed to them before the year is over if they traded 4) The only reason I see them doing this is to get SOMETHING back, even if it ends up being practically worthless to their MLB club since these players helped them very little... but it's too little too late. Their value has flown the coop at this point. Maybe if they did this a year ago it might be intriguing to other teams but not now.
  12. Why would the backloading go to 2010 alone? When people talk deferred money, it's usually longer down the road than one year. I was assuming they'd defer a chunk of his 2009 salary amongst the final years on his contract, which are already pretty big. Unless they were regarding deferring it the way Griffey deferred his contract. If that's the case I'd jump all over it, but I was assuming they were going to defer it to the other years on his contract, which would likely give us yet another guy making $18 million a year each year. But yeah, I never through about deferring it past the end of his contract. If they did that, I'd have no issue whatsoever, but if it's the way I assumed it was I still have a slight issue with it. Regardless of it all, I want Peavy on the team bad
  13. I think Ludwick can hit 30-35 bombs, I just thought there were better options available in the group that he was in
  14. For this year maybe. Peavy is already due $15 million next year and then it goes up opver the next 2-3 years (pending option pickup). By backloading that contract, we'd be giving an obscene amount of money to a handful of players in 2010. We've already got $111 million committed to 8 players for next year alone. If Peavy's contract were backloaded and he were on the team it might be $130 million to 9 players. Lest wen ot forget to take a possible Soto extension into account by then That's a bit obscene to me
  15. Deferring his contract, huh? It would've made sense for this year had we got him so we could afford him and Bradley, but I think the last thing we needed was another backloaded contract
  16. Every time I see the title of this thread I immediately think of this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/nurshad/grits_n_gravy5.jpg
  17. He's right, it's the Cubs fault that he lost all of his talent after they traded him. Didn't you hear the story about how they took their magic syringe and sucked out all of his talent on the team plane when he was sleeping before the end of the season? They then injected that talent in to Jim Edmonds, relegating Jacque Jones to hitting .089 Yeah, it's totally the Cubs fault. I thought people knew this?
  18. So they'll jump start the renegotiations in a couple weeks then?
  19. Just noticed it. It's about time. Although it took me a long time to get used to their stat layout when I first started using it now this is gonna take a while for my eyes to get used to it as well, either way it looks way better
  20. Several of my friends from high school graduated from the prestigious grounds at Manatee Community College. I actually took a summer film class there my first summer back home when I was a freshman. Oh, and they're the Lancers, by the way. Manatee is the name of the county. And don't talk bad about MCC, Derek Lee attended that school in 1987................ This Derek Lee
  21. why? Because he's not really that good? He's also only been fully healthy during both his contract years. His average ERA jumped up quite a bit when he moved from FLA to TOR. His WHIP isn't anything to gawk at either. A.J. Burnett is pretty much useful for K's only. Granted on the Yankees he might get more wins now, but his inability to stay healthy for any year other than his contract year is unsettling, IMO
  22. I had mentioned it in the roster cuts thread, but I think McPherson might be deserving of his own thread. Is he out of options? I don't see why the Marlins would cut him otherwise. Sure he had a rough spring, but wouldn't his performance last year in the minors warrant keeping him around? Personally I'd love to have a bat like that in the minors at the very least if we need a 3B safety net for Aramis
  23. Not sure if this is meant for Cubs only, but... Part of me wants the Cubs to get him. It'd be nice having a guy who hit 42 homers in the minors last year sitting in our system as an emergency option. Or is he out of options now?
