  1. 2 baseball personalities in one week. What a crappy start to 2009 :(
  2. I started one here but it was way too early for anyone to post anything since most drafts hadn't taken place yet viewtopic.php?f=25&t=53233
  3. That's half right. Cubs and the Mets didn't pay outlandish prices for Harden or Santana, but he's wrong in thinking Peavy should go for similar because Harden and Santana were effectively in the last, or next to last years of their contracts, whereas Peavy is locked in for another 4 years. That's why Peavy is gonna go for top talent instead of mid to high grade talent, because whoever he goes to will control him for 4 years. Plus Santana would only agree to be traded if he got an extension, which drove his price way down. Harden had an option year and a laundry list of injuries. Peavy, while IMO not as good as those two pitchers, is in a whole different league when it comes to trade value because of his relatively durable career, top tier pitching talent, and an in place long term contract Well you can count us out then. And Peavy is right up there with Santana and Harden. Say what you will about Peavy pitching in a very pitcher friendly park, as Johan pitched in the Metrodome, which is just as pitcher friendly as Petco. You can't count us out considering reports have said we were mere minutes away from making an official deal for Peavy (or very very close at least). I mean some reports said Peavy was packing his things for Chicago because he was told to. If we give them Vitters, who is a top tier prospect, plus some mid to high end prospects/players like Marshall and what not, we can get it done. But we almost certainly can't get him for say Jay Jackson, Wellington Castillo, and Tyler Colvin. Peavy will yield at least one serious top prospect and some other fringe top end prospects, as opposed to Harden and Santana, who yielded good prospects, but weren't expected to be anything really incredible, and it's due largely in part to Peavy's 4-year contract compared to Harden's injury history/one option year and Santana's contract extension stipulation Also, I wasn't implying Peavy wasn't that good when I said I didn't think he was better than Harden opr Santana, I was merely stating an opinion that I think Harden and Santana are better. Peavy is still a Top 5 pitcher, I just think Harden (when healthy) and Santana are in a league of their own
  4. Wait... was there a a double play grounder hit to Theriot and he went home with it?
  5. Well I see the Cubs are going to continue the trend from last year of not giving Rich Harden adequate run support in games where he dominates
  6. Other than the fact that our manager appears to have outbursts of random stupidity. 6 relievers in 2 innings... I don't have the game on TV (because I don't have a Tv at the moment), but just watching the gameday box score I was scratching my head as to why. I'm assuming he was playing the matchups and all that, but was it really necessary?

  8. Did anyone see Boras' reaction at the press conference where he was crying? I don't think I'm buying his performance
  9. This is a terrible tragedy. Every time a baseball player dies it stings to hear, especially one with so much promise who had the rest of his life ahead of him. This is crappy news. RIP Nick Adenhart
  10. All 3 are available in one of my leagues and I have an open spot due to a DL posting. I'd like to pick one of them up. So far Snider has been decent and Jones has been great, but it's only 3 games into the season or so. Which player do you guys think will have the highest upside this year?
  11. Soto. Please don't be injured :beg:
  12. If we had Wieters, hopefully we would have traded D. Lee for another pitcher. Can Wieters play 1B? Who cares, he's not on our team. If we had Wieters, they would trade us Jesus for him
  13. I have Tim Lincecum, Francisco Liriano, and Aaron Cook on one of my teams. :( They'll not suck forever, though. Well, Cook might
  14. No. why not? i think he's got a great chance. assuming he plays 6 more years which would make him 39 at retirement, so you could easily argue he plays more than that, he basically needs 5 leadoff homers per year. that's realistic. I agree with you that he has a chance, but I don't think he'll do it. I think he'll wind up somewhere in the low 70's at best
  15. Agreed, but part of me thinks why there's people thinking the Royals are gonna win isn't because they think they're the best team, but because they're trying ot not look stupid in case they do like they did when they kept dismissing the Rays last year as a fluke. I think they're just covering they're butts
  16. You might wanna change Barton con sidering he's not on the 25-man right now. Also he's buried behind Giambi and Garciaparra on the 1B depth chart this year so even if he was on the team he probably wouldn't get playing time. Unless I'm reading the rules wrong. You're supposed to pick the worst players who get continual playing time right?
  17. Does he have anyone else on his team more valuable than Santana that he'd probably trade for him?
  18. I told him to quit but he actually was winning yesterday so I think he's gonna stick with it just for fun. And this guy did the trades on opening night after the Phillies/Braves game.
  19. Man, Rickey Handerson was bad ass
  20. There's a lot of people picking the Royals to make the playoffs this year. And by a lot I mean a few people I've seen on TV and a few websites
  21. I have a friend who joined a random league on ESPN and they went through the draft and everything was going normally. Well all of a sudden two days ago, one team made 3 major trades with 3 different teams. Obviously this guy either got his apathetic friends to join and do a draft or he had multiple accounts and had them all in this league. The guy made a bunch of obviously one sided trades that were premeditated to help his one team win the league. After his trades this is what his starting lineup and rotation looked like... C Chris Ianetta 1B Albert Pujols 2B Ian Kinsler SS Jose Reyes OF Vladimir Guerrero OF Ichiro Suzuki OF Carl Crawford UTIL Hanley Ramirez SP CC Sabathia SP Jake Peavy SP Brandon Webb SP Dan Haren SP John Lackey RP Mariano Rivera RP Francisco Rodriguez That doesn't include his bench players. I would be infuriated if I joined a league where some twerp pulled that crap in it. And they weren't even fair trades. One of the trades was Adam Dunn Frank Francisco Felipe Lopez Carlos Silva for Hanley Ramirez Ichiro Suzuki CC Sabathia Mariano Rivera This guy drafted 4 teams in one league for the sole purposes of trading each teams best players to his primary team. Obviously you are not allowed to protest trades in this league and he was also obviously the commish. I'm not even in the league and it pisses me off. Has this happened to anyone else? I can't even begin to imagine how infuriated I'd be if it happened in one of my leagues
  22. Well, it appears Hanley has slotted well into the 3-spot of the lineup. He's going to be absolutely ludicrous this year
  23. We might be able to get him if we trade Pie, Gallagher, Murton, Cedeno, Ceda, and Donaldson
  24. I love that Cliff Lee is getting destroyed.
