  1. Mentioned it in the fantasy thread but thought it might deserve its own separate thread. Also didn't know if it should go in minor league discussions or general baseball. Either way... http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/schmuck/2009/05/wieters_arrives_friday.html
  2. Just found this... http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/schmuck/2009/05/wieters_arrives_friday.html Guess that answers that
  3. Raul Ibanez at 6th place in the OF voting is a travesty
  4. when has hendry severely overpaid in a trade? i've got one in like 6 years of him being a GM, juan pierre. in trades for good major league players, hendry has actually not paid all that much (nomar, lee, ramirez, harden). I wonder if Hoff is going to be part of this along with all the usual suspects. Oh, Hendry also overpaid for Kevin "[expletive]" Gregg. I don't see why the Padres would need someone like Hoffpauir. Gonzalez has him blocked (and they got Blanks in the minors), they probably won't move Giles for reasons similar to the Cubs not moving Lee. He could take time away from Chase Headley, that's about it. But Headley has been a casualty of home/road splits. He's not too bad when hitting away from Petco, so who's to say Hoffpauir will be as good as Headley is in Petco? Now that I think about it, it'd be nice if they swing a deal for Peavy & Headley, since Headley is primarily a 3B, but that won't happen When all this is over, I just really hope Vitters is still on the team one way or the other. I'm not gonna hold my breath on that though if a deal actually goes through
  5. I propose that the phrase "I'm just Joshing you" be changed to "I'm just Milesing you" because Aaron Miles is an effing joke
  6. I've given it a lot of thought, and I've decided to stop being so selfish. I've decided to play third base for the Cubs. I figure the only requirements they're looking for is 1) Does a baseball mitt fit on your hand? 2) Can you swing a 32oz bat? 3) Do you have two legs? I fit the description perfectly. Don't worry, I'm on my way to save the team from certain peril
  7. Man, it's not even close. At least I'm in 2nd with a long way to go still. Iannetta going on the DL isn't going to help my cause either
  8. Another reason the White Sox suck
  9. Blaming the umps will only make the situation worse if it already exists. I half believe him. He has to know that talking about it publically could worsen it, why would he take that risk if it weren't actually happening? I don't doubt they're stretching his strike zone on occasion, but he still isn't hitting the ball well and needs to turn it around soon before the fans start giving him something new to be vocal about
  10. Carmona got worked today in Cleveland. Tampa scored 5 runs on him in the 2nd. Carmona's final line 1.1IP 5ER 5BB 3K's. His ERA jumped from 5.74 to 6.43. Oh yeah, and David Price is pitching and struck out 3 batters in the first inning.
  11. Awesome, thanks Southpaw for all the work you do with this. :clapping:
  12. I would assume it's gonna happen sooner rather than later. They can't be too happy with Zaun and Moeller's combined production at this point. They're both pathetic. A combined .209/.277/.344 with 2HR and 4RBI in 171 plate appearances. Gross
  13. I'm anxious to see the updated results, had some big weeks out of some of my guys
  14. that's a good looking team. if you need to drop Parra for either of them I'd get Ortiz. Obviously pitching is the strong suit in that league, but you've already got a nice staff. Having Ortiz on the bench can't hurt as much, plus in the chance he turns it around he'd make for good trade bait. I don't know, your pitching staff already looks stacked. I'd say go for Ortiz. Can't hurt any
  15. It's nearing that time when he can be called up, right? Is Baltimore planning on calling up, I haven't seen any news on it. The recent call up of David Price makes me think he'll be next and soon. He hasn't really been tearing the cover off the ball in the minors this year. Is it possible Baltimore will keep him in the minors a bit longer? My offense is struggling bad right now, but he's on my bench and I could use that extra boost if he's as good as everyone says he'll be
  16. Would you need to drop someone for Ortiz? I honestly don't think he'll turn it around to where he's cranking out 40 HR seasons again. Maybe 20-25 tops, but if you're replacing someone you're not playing with him there can't be much harm in it. If it's Parra for Lohse, I don't know. Both are kind of a mixed bag who can give you a great start or a terrible start. Lohse has better numbers right now, but he's more like a lesser of two evils.
  17. THAT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH WE'RE D00MED!!!!11!
  18. Cliff Lee being on there is a joke too. Did they ignore the rest of his career when taking him into consideration? But yeah, Aram, Adrian Gonzales, Markakis. Holliday being there is a joke, his splits are ludicrous. Oh Jesus, I just noticed Josh Beckett at #16. Josh effing Beckett? Really? He of the career 3.86 ERA and only two seasons of an ERA+ higher than 118 with a current ERA+ of 85? Pfft. Becket is an overrated pitcher. They're obviously basing a lot of these on current performnance and lot on past performance, but Beckett has had one good full season and it was the year the Red Sox won the championship, and that makes him #16 on the list of the best players in the game today. B.S.
  19. Apparently Miguel Cabrera isn't better than Dustin Pedroia
  20. If you know, you want to laugh... or get pissed at the ignorance of hall of fame baseball players. Some of them are right, most are wrong in terms of placement. 21. i don't think he's bitter. The cubs were a very bad organization during that time. However, his story sounds similar to a lot of guys I've been around who spent a lot of time in the minor and we're fringey. Imagine the stories a guy like Murton or C-pat will have Murton definitely. Corey Patterson though is responsible for his own terrible downfall. He had plenty of opportunity to right the ship and he failed miserably. If I ever see an interview with him where he talks about not getting a fair shake, I'm gonna laugh.
