  1. This just makes me laugh... http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/index.ssf/2009/07/cleveland_indians_will_dive_in.html Wally Bryan. That doesn't sound very Dominican. I'm dying to see a picture of this guy. He sounds like the whitest guy on Earth. Finkle is Einhorn, Einhorn is Finkle
  2. The old "He was good except when he wasn't" argument. 8.2 IP, 6 BB, 1 HR, 3 K just means that he had a lot of balls hit at fielders to keep his ERA that low. It was a BABIP fluke. So he can't just be good for a stretch, he has to be 100% terrible with fluky flashes of decency? Nevermind the fact that his ERA+ over his last 5 full seasons was 198, he must be 100% trash now? There's no way that his good month was due to his ability as a pitcher?
  3. 1.68 WHIP, 8 BB 3 K over his last month 3.00 WHIP, 8 BB, 1 K over his last 7 games I don't really get where the "he's been pretty good over the past month or so" stuff is coming from. He's been terrible You should do some more research before making that conclusion. He had one game in July where he had pitche 0.2 innings and gave up 3 ER and walked 2 good for a 40.50 ERA and 4.5 WHIP which appears to have come off a 3 run homer. His previous 11 appearances before that in June... 8.2 IP 1.04 ERA 1ER 6BB 1.35WHIP. The WHIP and walk rate isn't that spectacular, but he was fairly lights out in June
  4. Yeah he doesn't have the same velocity but as someone pointed out he's been pretty good over the last month, albeit it's only like 10 innings or so, but still, it's something to be intrigued by. I like this move. And I too am curious by the "1 year deal" aspect of it. Is it the rest of the season or through the end of next year? And does it mean we pay him league minimum this year since Toronto released him asnd eats all of his contract?
  5. No love for Tuffy Rhodes? You fiends!
  6. After reading this thread, I can't imagine that could be true. He does seem like he has a chip on his shoulder. Sort of a "holier than thou" sense of demeanor about him... but he's still hilarious, and I can't imagine he treats his teammates like crap. Maybe they don't like his opinion of himself, but I doubt he's Jack Parkman in the clubhouse
  7. I'm guessing people are going to go ahead and post like they have already even though it says to wait until after the break, but I have a feeling I'm going to forget otherwise so I'll do it now with the others. Drop Jay Bruce Add Andre Ethier Drop Carlos Quentin Add Jason Bay
  8. I've gotten good mileage out of my Cubs/Budweiser sponsored bucket hat* *No I haven't
  9. Have there been any quotes from Francouer on the trade yet? He usually has a habit of sticking his foot in his mouth because he thinks he's God's gift to baseball, I'm curious to see what he thinks
  10. Based on the atrocities I've heard about Jake Fox at 3rd and the little I saw while he was there, would it really be that big a deal to toss Fox behind homeplate and split some time with Hill? There's no place else to play him and that was his natural position... seems kind of obvious. Unless he really is the guy who people say drops routine pitches on the regular
  11. If he says he doesn't want an extension his value becomes really high. Santana would only agree to a trade if there was an extension in place, Halladay still has one year at $15 mil on his contract. In this market that's pretty reasonable for a pitcher of his quality. There's lots of pitchers making more than that who aren't even close ot the caliber that Roy Halladay is. But if he demands an extension his price is not just going to be the $15 mil next year, but probably $18 mil+ for the next 4-5 years minimum I would assume. That's when you start giviing up one prospect and some toss ins like the Santana deal. otherwise, that speculated Angels offer is probably the kind of level teams would need to go to get him
  12. Just got to see Shaun Alexander speak to a crowd about a new Christian football camp he's doing or something. That man loves him some Jesus. I know this has nothing to do with actual football, but yeah... in case anyone was wondering what Shaun Alexander has been up to... that stuff.
  13. Part of me thinks/knows a team will have to give up a truckload of great players to land him... but then I think about the Santana deal and just how little the Mets had to give up to land him, and he's arguably the best pitcher in baseball. Perhaps Halladay will want an extension like Santana did in order to waive his NTC? I don't know. Fact is, he's going to cost a king's ransom, and looking at that speculative Angels proposal, I think they're one of the few teams in the majors, maybe the only team, that can dole up the players needed to acquire him, unless they go the Minnesota route and take one or two top prospects and some mid-top tier throw ins. Which in that case would make him affordable for many teams.
  14. Not sure if it's been posted, but this link was passed to me yesterday, it's an awesome site with interesting graphs about random things. Very stylish looking. http://www.flipflopflyin.com/flipflopflyball/index.html
  15. I was hoping this comment would come back and bite him in the ass :)
  16. Haha, no I don't have that kind of clout. Even if I did I wouldn't know how to go about getting it. Since no one really shows up to the games that much they need to make as much money as possible so asking for free tickets is kind of out of the question. But tickets are cheap, they start at $7. And on Thursday home games it's Thirsty Thursday where they have $1 beers and hot dogs I think. Home games only. LOL, thanks. I'm having a lot of fun so far. Hopefully it lasts. It's been tiring work so far. Came in at 9 yesterday, left at 11:00. That's the way it goeso n game days though. Doesn't bother me any. I'm digging it
  17. They are the Diamondbacks AA affiliate. I will be taking care of their videography. They have a computer system set up where I'll log every pitch so it can be easily accessed by the coaches and players in the future for reference. It's pretty awesome. I sit out in CF and track the plays. It's a pretty archaic looking piece of software, but the expansiveness of it is pretty detailed. Basically whenever I log a pitch, it logs it for that at bat, and when that at bat is over and it's all transfered and nice, coaches can open up the software go to the at bat, click on the pitch in the count and a video will pop up of that pitch. It's pretty cool. Also, I got to watch them play the Lookouts tonight. Jarrod Parker vs. Andrew Lambo... was rather uneventful. Parker looked sharp to begin the game, 4 K's in 2IP, but only ended up with 5 total through 6 IP or so. Lambo didn't do much, think he got a single and that's it. But yeah, that's my job now. It doesn't pay a whole lot, but I don't really care, I've been wanting this type of job for years now (baseball videographer). Didn't even know it existed until a few weeks ago, luckily I knew a guy who knew the President of the Bay Bears. And since it's minor league ball, I also havwe to do lots of grunt work along with everyone else. I spent the postgame picking up fireworks debris from the outfield. Glamorous! It's all good though, I really dig it. Also, there's like 6 or 7 Cubs fans in the front office. They were jokingly upset when I told them I was a Cubs fan, said they should start screening and not hiring people if they are Cubs fans, lol. Just wanted to share. I'm pumped
  18. I always wondered this myself
  19. If possession to start the game isn't settled by two players sprinting towards a ball at midfield then I don't support this
  20. I can't believe some people actually think this would be a good idea. Currently crappy play or not, Soriano has the ability to be a proven contributor who can actually fulfill his end of the bargain when he gets on a roll, while Zito has been marginally worse than Jason Marquis since 2007. Soriano is a whole 2 months removed from having consistent quality production (.955 OPS in April) and because of a couple bad months we want to trade him for a guy we don't need who will cost us the same amount of money and we know for a fact will be consistently terrible? I hope that was intended for green font
  21. So tghe last time I checked Pujols' numbers was like a week ago when he had 24HR... I had no idea he had hit 30 already. Unreal.
  22. Chone Figgins, please. Not sure the Angels are shopping him though. He hits for good average, can draw a good amount of walks (40 this year already), and he can play practically any position if need be. He'd be a great lead off replacement for Soriano, someone who can actually get on base would be pretty nice to have at that location
  23. I'm not totally against Samardzija being called up, but did we really need to send Ascanio down?
