  1. I wasn't being sarcastic, the internet had a huge chubby for Wieters today. Also, I'm not annoyed, I've been anticipating his arrival all year. And he sucked tonight, lol
  2. Yes, it's Matt Wieters stiffy day... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=kurkjian_tim&id=4214226 From Rotoworld... http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-orioles-wieters&prov=ap&type=lgns
  3. I figure this would be a decent thread. There's a lot of rookies this year making impacts or have the potential to make impacts. With the call ups of Price and Wieters I figured having a thread to discuss not only their progress/performances but others as well would be a fun thing to do. Personally, I'm impressed by Nolan Reimold so far. 5HR in 14 games. He reminds me of Ryan Howard when he was a rookie. Big power guy getting his first real crack at the majors at the age of 25. Hit a walk off 3-run homer the other night, hit another one tonight to give him 3 HR's in 3 straight games. Aside form Jake Fox he was arguably the 2nd best hitters in the minors so far this year. Was batting .394 with a .489 OBP and a 1.228 OPS with 9HR and 27RBI in 31 games before being called up. I think if he gets his walk rate up he could be a Ryan Howard type player for Baltimore, except Reimold doesn't appear to be too big of a strike out guy. Judging from his minor league numbers he appears to be the kind of guy who will reach 100K's a season, but not be a prolific whiffer, ala Mark Reynolds or Jack Cust. With an outfield of him, Markakis, and Jones that's gonna be a helluva lineup in the future if he ends up fulfilling his potential

  5. Ahhhh, gotcha.
  6. From what I've heard, it's not his arm that's the problem. It's his glove. Apparently he can't catch the ball behind the plate or in the field. That's what I don't understand, how can you be a catcher your entire high school and college career and all of a sudden not be able to catch the ball behind the plate? From what I've heard he would drop routine strikes, is that true? How do you just lose the ability to do that after being in that position for close to a decade? Probably the same way a guy can forget how to throw strikes. Throwing strikes is a lot more difficult than not being able to catch a ball. That can be the result of improper arm slot, injury, overthrowing, etc. All he has to do is hold his glove up, move it a few inches to a foot at a time, sometimes not at all, and squeeze the mitt. How do you do that for so long and then just not be able to do it anymore? Throwing the ball accurately I get, but catching a ball?

  8. Did Andres Blanco kick your dog or something? We get it. You don't like Andres Blanco. The horse is dead already replace kick with sucks, replace your with at, replace dog with baseball and you've got your answer. I've seen worse than Andres Blanco. He's generally a bad hitter, but was OPSing .800 in 153 ABs this year. He also has a career 5.8 UZR in the majors in 386 innings. As long as he's just filler and not part of a longterm plan, I don't really have a problem with him. Precisely. He's only here because of injuries to the starters, he's gone when they come back. The guy was swinging the bat well in the minors, he got called up. Ooooohhhhhh travesty!!! Hendry should commit hari cari for this, the worst of all his crimes against humanity!!!

  10. Have there been any quotes from Z or Lou on the situation? P.S. The scene in question from The Last Boy Scout...
  11. Actually, I was looking for a box filled with all my Dad's old cop stuff. Ironically, when I was a kid he totally had a bunch of old Playboy type stuff. Hardbound collectors editions and stuff. Think he threw them out years ago though :(
  12. The Nats would be fine if they had a decent pitching core. I saw something on MLB network the other way saying that the Nationals have been average something likr 5-6 runs over their last 10 games. And of those 10 games they lost like 9 of them. They got a solid offense. Dunn is mashing the ball, Zimmerman has been great, Johnson is hitting the ball well, they've got outfielders out the wazoo with tremendous upside, Guzman is a great contact hitter... they just have atrocious pitching. If Strasburg is as good as advertised, that could go a long way for the club. If they could sign someone like Erik Bedard, or even Rich Harden if we choose not to resign him this offseason, they could have a decent little team there assuming they stay healthy. Then they can add a bullpen guy like Mike Gonzalez or hell even Billy Wagner will be available. That could help them out immensely. All they need is pitching
  13. Apparently they're close to moving Quentin to the DL. That gives me two DL'd players if that's true. Ibanez has been a wise choice for pickup, but Longoria decided to drop off the map power wise as soon as I added him. I'm pretty much screwed till the ASB, which by then I may be so far gone there's no point. Cabrera and Braun need to stop messing around
  14. Depends on whether or not the Yankees decide to keep jerking Phil Hughes between the bullpen and the rotation. If they let Pettite go next year I'm sure they'll give his spot to Hughes, but this year it kind of hinges on Wang's performance. I don't know much about Martinez, but judging from his numbers he doesn't appear to be anything really special, though numbers can be deceiving. I'm sure he brings extra skills to the table that numbers don't show. Perhaps great defense, I'm assuming. But he's still really young. How does Martinez project? Is he going to be a power guy or a contact guy? I'd almost take Hughes since he's proven he has some elite talent in him, and you can use him immediately rather than later.
  15. lol, while I'm pretty sure that's a joke I think I plan on keeping this myself. Since there's no COA it's no more than a sentimental auto'd ball. But like you I am more "wow'd", if you will, by the Murray autograph as well. My brother already has a Sandberg ball, and anyone can buy one of those from an auction or from a vendor. Bill Murray isn't exactly a common autograph
  16. Now with pictures! Turk Wendell w/ smudge http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd256/gallow737/PIC_0396Medium.jpg Bill Murray. It looks a little smudged in the pic but it's actually the ball that's scuffed, not the sig. It's a little dirty, it may have been played with before it was signed (or after for all I know) http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd256/gallow737/PIC_0398Medium.jpg Mr. Sandberg w/ slight smudge on the "R" http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd256/gallow737/PIC_0400Medium.jpg
  17. Thought I'd share. Was randomly searching through their closets the other day and found an official NL autographed ball with three sigs on it... 1) Turk Wendell 2) Bill Murray 3) Ryne Sandberg WTF? Wendell's sig is a little smudged but Murray and Sandberg's sigs aren't. I found this ball completely unprotected sitting in a box under a mountain of clothes in their closet. I looked at it and was like "Wow, a Turk Wendell signed ball, I don't remember getting this" Then I said "Is that Bill Murray? I never met Bill Murray" and then I saw Sandberg's chicken scratch auto and was like "Why the hell are these three signatures on the same friggin' ball?" I asked my parents about it, they said they don't remember but they probably got it at an auction because my brother was a big Sandberg fan. Thought it was kinda funny and figured some folks might get kick out of the story
  18. Every time I hear "Go Cubs Go" I want to sing the lyrics to the "Hey Dude" theme song.
  19. SWEEP THE FRIGGING LEG FOR CHRISTS SAKE!!!!!
  20. Why would you assume "Proven Winners" was the name of a sports betting company? Is there a company of the same name?
  21. wha happened? Soriano made an other routine error on a slow roller at his feet. I'm telling you, almost every error he makes out there is the type of error he'd make at 2B. They are always miscues on balls rolling ath is feet it seems
