  1. By playing for a beer league softball team... http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/After-being-cut-by-M-s-Eric-Byrnes-joins-beer-l?urn=mlb,239148 There's also a video interview about it on the MLB page at ESPN: http://espn.go.com/mlb/ I've always thought Eric Byrnes was a tool, but I find it funny that he's getting paid millions of dollars right now to play softball for a team called the Dutch Goose.
  2. Everyone in the everyday starting lineup is hitting over .300 except Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez, who are each hitting .230 or lower Ryan Theriot has 1 fewer XBH, 3 fewer RBI, and 5 fewer BB than Aramis Ramirez, but is out OPS'ing him by .246 points (.727 vs. .481) Starting Lineup with Castro combined OPS = .856 Starting Lineup with Fontenot combined OPS = .818 Starting Lineup with Castro minus Lee & Ramirez combined OPS = .947 Starting Lineup with Fonteno minus Lee & Ramirez combine OPS = .896 I know... Castro... small sample size. The point is Lee and Ramirez really need to knock it the eff off. This [expletive] isn't funny anymore.
  3. Have any news outlets dubbed this "Napgate" yet? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5187219

  5. Scouting Book is great because they have a ginormous list of prospects that you can look at, and they list how they ranked amongst other websites. However their analysis is pretty amateur, they aren't really pro scouts from what I can gather, just some passionate baseball fans who likely gather analysis from other sites and paraphrase on theirs. Also their rankings are a little strange... i.e. Tim Alderson at #57 above prospects like Jaff Decker, Lars Anderson, Zach Britton, Jennry Mejia, etc. But it's an incredibly useful site if you just want some basic info on as many prospects as you can fathom. It's definitely a must visit
  6. Thought this was funny: Starlin Castro was the first Cub to homer in his first at-bat since......... Jim Bullinger in 1992
  7. I could have sworn there's a video of this happening out there somewhere. Maybe I dreamed it because of how awesome it sounds. Or if you like the scripted Terry Tate version:
  8. Let's not forget that Mike Stanton might also be called up soon. There are rumors he may make it up before thew end of the month. He's making Starlin Castro's AA numbers look like crap... .340/.477/.840/1.317 14HR 31RBI 27R through 27 games. 22 of his 34 hits have been for extra bases. I think he'll struggle moreso than destroy the ball at the MLB level though for some reason, but still that kid is going to turn some heads one way or another if he's called up.
  9. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5171607&categoryid=2378529 This is a pretty funny publicity stunt. Ferrell's alter ego on the mound was named Rojo Johnson. This would've been fun to watch in person
  10. This is awesome in so many innumberable ways
  11. Lou is going to bat Geo 9th and the pitcher lead off. Shake things up a bit
  12. Any chance to post these videos in a relevant thread, I'll take it 100% of the time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZzgAjjuqZM&feature=related

  14. If Aramis keeps playing like this you can be damn sure he'll be a Chicago Cub next season
  15. I figured there was at least one more, only knew of Liriano and Pelfrey though Didn't know about that one. That is just ridiculous
  16. 59. A ways to go. Admittedly I thought it was 45 or something. Yikes. Orel Hershiser holds the record... perhaps the creation of this thread is a little too premature
  17. Mike Pelfrey has 24 consecutive scoreless innings. Francisco Liriano (as of my typing this) has 21 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings. Anyone think either of these guys can take on the record? I don't think Pelfrey has a shot in hell, but Liriano appears to be back to his dominant form he had in 2006 so maybe he has a chance
  18. Drop Grady Sizemore Add Vernon Wells
  19. Keith Law ripped this contract a new one... http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/blog?name=law_keith&id=5138711 A few snippets:
  20. I saw BP and thought "Baseball Prospectus is sponsoring this stupid idea?" Oh, gasoline.
  21. I was one of the Wells doubters for this season, expecting numbers you had suggest for him at his best. Consider me very pleasantly surprised so far. I'd say take a look at his numbers at the ASB and if they're still in line with his production last season perhaps it would be time to start officially considering him the real deal and that he really has top of the rotation stuff. I'm not sold yet though. Still a little too early to tell, but if he keeps it up you certainly won't hear me complain

  23. Five out of the next six, eh? Gm# Date Opponent Score Starter Opp Starter .19 Sun 04/25 @ Milwaukee - Wells Bush .20 Mon 04/26 Washington N - Silva Olsen .21 Tue 04/27 Washington N - Gorzelanny Lannan .22 Wed 04/28 Washington - Dempster Marquis .23 Thu 04/29 Arizona - Lilly Kennedy .24 Fri 04/30 Arizona - Wells Lopez Where's the loss? Kennedy will shut us down
  24. As soon as I saw "Pirates pitcher hit in head vs. Astros" I didn't even have to guess to know who hit the ball... Lance Berkman. This is the 3rd pitcher he's hit in the head with a line drive now isn't it? I think he hit Jo-Jo Reyes a couple years ago and someone else a year or two before that. This makes 3.
