  1. HOF board cut eligibility from 15 years to 10 http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11267278/baseball-hall-fame-cuts-election-eligibility-10-years
  2. I would argue that people that DO follow the minors closely are the ones more likely to understand the percentage of flameouts (take a look at law's lol top 20 from a couple yrs ago posted elsewhere). the people that are like "the infield is going to combine for 120 homers next year" are the ones that don't seem to follow prospects that closely. Because there's anyone here that does that? Get real. david said 100 hr a season from an infield that didn't include bryant. not necessarily next year, but still. Even if you do throw some reasonable numbers out there... Rizzo: 37HR Baez: 32HR Castro: 17HR Russell: 15HR 101HR. It's not an unreasonable possibility, it's just yet to be proven if our prospects will sink or swim
  3. I hate to really derail the topic, but... Not that Pierzynski is any good anymore, but this is like the two worst things in baseball being even worse.
  4. I think the photographer wanted to share the photo before they got back to their computer to process it
  5. As someone who was raised in Florida, all of the above is accurate. Especially the old people part. They're the worst.
  6. Here, use this one: http://i.imgur.com/OsAdPaj.gif s.hittytumblrgifs are a pet peeve of mine, sorry. Where do you get yours? mostly http://www.reddit.com/r/highqualitygifs Also a great resource: http://replygif.net/ My source: http://reactiongifsarchive.imgur.com/ Also I make some sometimes. 7. Bwahahahahahahahaha
  8. I mentioned it in the movie thread. It was super awesome. Watched it twice in two days.
  9. He's autographing them "Jeffrey Baez"
  10. That's why he's probably #1 on the list of players to move, so the FO can't try and sell high on his basic stats in hopes of getting something of value for him before he turns into a pumpkin
  11. "Hey Mark Skeezer, want to watch me hit BP?" "My name is Matt Szczur, Javy" "Whatever, Miles. Maybe Ike Polk wants to watch me hit BP" "His name is Mike Olt, Javy." "Stop [expletive] around, Millicent"
  12. Isn't there always a DH when an AL team is involved, regardless if it's home or away? I vaguely recall that being the situation when I was working for the Bay Bears, though I'm not 100% on that
  13. well said? I'm surprised re Soler. I'm not too surprised. He's got a MLB contract so he doesn't fall in the prospect realm of losing team control and what not. There's no harm in bringing him up early, plus he was already advanced enough that he would've moved quickly (maybe already been on the club) if his injuries didn't keep him out so long.
  14. It also immediately reminded me of this http://www.mtv.com/videos/misc/149802/exorcism-part-1.jhtml
  15. You know how you always see in TV an movies a terminally ill child/young person meeting a baseball player and asking him to hit a home run for him, and then the player dramatically has to hit a home run some how to make the kid happy? And it's super tacky and you're just like "Ugh, this is so cliché!" Rizzo did that for real, which is way more awesome http://www.si.com/mlb/2014/07/23/cubs-anthony-rizzo-home-run-cancer-patient
  16. Good to know, thanks fellas
  17. Drop Chris Davis Add Paul Goldschmidt Drop Wil Myers Add Manny Machado I hate that need to keep Josh Reddick
  18. Perhaps he thought the expletive was another word which made it seem bad, which is what I initially thought. Also, I have no idea what constitutes a good or bad IsoD, and Googling it to find out yields nothing but info on ISO or IsoP. Found the formula (OBP - AVG - IBB), but couldn't find anything on averages or statistics for IsoD. Wanted to educate myself. Anyone care to enlighten as to what is a barometer for good and bad IsoD's?
  19. TIL Lars Anderson is in the Chicago Cubs system. Hmm, he wasn't putting up awful numbers at AAA, but considering how old he is now it's not that special. He can be soemone else's Bryan LaHair some day
  20. This is why over in the Rizzo thread I was optimistic about Javy's ability to be as good if not better than Rizzo at the plate. If he cuts down the K's and increases the BB's, then he might be one of the most dangerous hitters in the majors. That said, what Rizzo has done the last few games since I posted that is making that look like an insurmountable task, not that I'm complaining
  21. I've been thinking this, too. I know going the season we expected some progression with him, and we even got it early in the season when him, Castro, and Rizzo were all jiving together for a couple of weeks that first month, but since then he's been pretty abysmal at the plate. On May 1st his batting line was .300/.349/.525/.874 and since then he's been .207/.263/.314/.577. That's a whole lot of suck. Do they stay patent with him and try and let him put it together or try and grab someone in trade? The FA crop is pretty bad: John Buck Ryan Doumit Nick Hundley * Gerald Laird Russell Martin Jeff Mathis * Wil Nieves Miguel Olivo Ronny Paulino A.J. Pierzynski David Ross Geovany Soto Kurt Suzuki I've been wondering how attached Seattle is to Mike Zunino, though that was back when Seattle was a possible destination for Samardzija or Hammel. Not sure if we have anything that could pry him away that the Cubs would be willing to move (I wouldn't move one of our big prospects for him). But regardless of that idle speculation, I was curious what you, or others, might think would be a reasonable target to replace Castillo if they do intend to replace him. I think that might be one of the offseason storylines not a lot of people will expect and/or be excited about, but would be kind of an important decision. Also I imagine a lot of that depends on if they decide to let Schwarber stick at catcher long term, given the positive early reports on his ability there.
