  1. Why am I not surprised to come on here and hear Illini fans rying about officiating? /didn't see the game
  2. I said way back in the first few pages of the first thread that the Illini was in no way going to the Final 4. Who knew i would be SO right?
  3. I don't know if I'll be awake for the first pitch. I'm wiped today! (stupid cold. stupid kids waking up all night. ok, they aren't stupid, but you know what i mean)
  4. The semis should have been Pool 1 winner vs Pool 2 runner-up and vice versa instead of this weird setup. I could be wrong, but I believe it would have been Korea/Cuba and Japan/DR under that setup. Clearly the entire format was set up by Selig and his cronies for a US vs. DR final that clearly won't happen. But yes, this is dumb. I would rather they do one round of "pool" play then have an 8 team single or double elimination playoff. Seed the teams 1-8 based on run differential from the pool round or something.
  5. Just got in, didn't watch much today. Duke LSU Gonzaga UCLA Illinois Tennessee Boston College Florida Meh, 4-2 so far today. Not great. My Sweet 16 is down to 12....
  6. yes, but is Lee projected to miss any regular season games? He may be banged up, but Ayala is a full year deal (maybe longer depending on his recovery time from Tommy John...)
  7. That's always the way it is on Saturday of the first weekend. They show a quadrupleheader, but there's only one game during the early time. I don't really like it that way, since there's no other game to switch to if the game turns into a blowout (it wouldn't matter to me anyway; since Duke is a local team they'd stick with it regardless of how ugly it might get). Sunday is only a tripleheader, so CBS can show its usual primetime lineup. who wouldn't want to watch Duke? if we thank God for small miracles, one is that Vitale doesn't work for CBS
  8. Steve Alford is a tool
  9. Duke seems to always get the early Saturday game when no one else is playing since obviously EVERYONE wants to see them. Duke is to CBS as the Yankees are to ESPN. as Notre Dame is to NBC, as NASCAR is to Fox, as the Spurs are to TNT, as....
  10. Not many early games today. Duke vs. GW is the only game around 1pm (EST), two are around 3:30, three around 5:30-6, then the rest at around 8.
  11. Some first round factoids: # of upsets: 8 (25% of the games) # of teams left by seed: 1 - 4 2 - 4 3 - 3 4 - 3 5 - 2 6 - 2 7 - 2 8 - 3 9 - 1 10 - 2 11 - 2 12 - 2 13 - 1 14 - 1 15 - 0 16 - 0 lowest seed guaranteed a Sweet 16 bid: #6 (either WVU or NWSt goes) largest margin of victory: 34 (UCLA over Belmont) lowest winning score: 54 (Georgetown) highest losing score: 85 (Marquette/UNC Wilmington)
  12. Luis Ayala out for the season after pitching for Mexico in the WBC. Needs TJ surgery. May have happened anyway, but.....
  13. Today I've got these 8 teams going to the Sweet 16: Duke LSU Gonzaga UCLA Illinois Tennessee Boston College Florida I was 20-12 in Round 1  and lost 2 Sweet 16 teams yesterday (Iowa and Kansas) How did y'all do?
  14. WVU Iowa Cal Texas Memphis Bucknell Kent St. Kansas UConn UAB Mich. St. UNC Nova Wiscy GTown O$U Not my tourney :( though I still have 15 of 16 Sweet 16 teams alive (pending late games). Would be perfect if it weren't for Iowa :x
  15. Napoleon Dynamite is letting me down
  16. he played for Puerto Rico I believe in the WBC. I think he pitched at AA and a little AAA last year
  17. 6-2 on the day, 17-7 overall
  18. meanwhile this set is going swimmingly for me (after 2-2 in the early games)
  19. To be fair, those were the 3 worst teams from the Big East that are finished. DePaul, Providence and S. Florida?
  20. what about my on notice? /grammar nazi
  21. maybe, but that's a stretch. That's like saying Philadelphia is homecourt for Kentucky over UAB
  22. GTown's unis are equally awful
  23. MSU better win today. Illinois didn't look that good, nor did Indiana or OSU, and Iowa and Wisconsin have lost. I hate the Hawks with a rabid passion, but I really wanted to see the B10 represented well. I believe the Spartans will win quite handily tonight, the Illini have a chance to win big tomorrow, UW doesn't play much defense and they're not as strong on the boards as the Illini. I really like the Hoosiers chances vs. tournament darling Gonzaga, Killingsworth' going destroy whatever the Zags throw at him down low. Batista is a pretty skilled player, I wouldn't sleep on him at all. I agree about the MSU game, GM being without their PG and being a very small team should serve my Spartans well. I think the UW-U of I game is a tossup personally. Home court advantage was the edge that tipped it to UW when I made my picks. I don't get how San Diego is a homecourt advantage for Washington? Seattle=1258 miles from SD Champaign=2032 miles from SD
