  1. I didn't read Canseco's book, I'm not reading this one.
  2. well if this was the Cubs, Sheets would have been leaving the game for personal reasons, we would be told he has turf toe, then he would have shoulder surgery on opening day
  3. http://www.suntimes.com/output/sports/cst-spt-sox10.html I'm no Sox fan, but I actually have to defend Kenny William's here ( ) Everett blasts the Sox for saying they have no leadership (now that he and Frank Thomas are gone) and that guys like Konerko won't cut it. He also predicted a 3rd place finish for Chicago (no word on how he thinks his awesome Mariners team will do  ) So, is this what a good leader does, Carl? Runs to the media and talks trash about his former team with zero provocation? Is it any surprise that he names Thomas (commonly known as a clubhouse distraction) as being the other true leader when he was there? Hey Carl, why don't you save your breath for your next "Dinosaurs didn't exist" rant!
  4. On some other message boards I frequent the moderators try to make sure that thread starters actually start a discussion (rather than simply post a link to an article, for example). I've seen many threads die because the first post is simply a hyperlink with no context, story or indication of what the article is about or why it was posted. The mods at these sites generally just delete the thread and PM you to say "you can post the article again if you start the conversation off". Just an idea, thanks.
  5. Carpenter was a horse last year. i'll never vote for a Cub in this type of poll
  6. wow, so PSU beats NU all 3 times this year. too bad they face O$U tomorrow
  7. Good info. Well I guess I'll have to pick the brains of the Cardinal fans here closer to June so I'll know who the heck the guys on our roster will be.
  8. cool. so the odds of seeing future major leaguers isn't as bleak as i feared
  9. but what if the final is Illinois vs. Penn State or something? Wouldn't a loss to an unranked team hurt them? Plus Penn State would get an automatic berth, bumping someone else
  10. cool, so the reason the season starts so late is because it's after the draft?
  11. i'm the all whit team. I don't think the Pistons have any white guys.....
  12. so if you qualify for the playoffs, then what? what happens if most of the players on your roster are from non-playoff teams?
  13. <---- in as "Derwood's Alma Maters Suck"
  14. Of course it matters who wins the Big 10 tourney. The selection comittee basically has everything figured out but has two scenarios depending on who wins that game. How could that game not matter?
  15. You know the Cubs wouldn't get them. :( Not legally anyways, but since it's Cuba who cares about the laws? This is why we're forming a covert strike team to go down there and take the players that we want. Our elite strike team will be making regular trips to communist countries to extract their best talent and import it to the US under the radar. I think Rocket meant that even if he defects, he'd be a Yankee or Red Sox player. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see some attempted defections, especially if Cuba advances in the WBC
  16. I'm contemplating buying season tickets for the State College Spikes this year but wanted to know how good the players on the roster might be. I'm guessing the best players from last June's draft will play full season A-Ball, leaving the fringe guys at short season? Or do you split guys up between the two teams to get the most playing time?
  17. If you want to be technical about this, Steroids were not against the rules at the time Baker was managing Bonds, so even though he should have confronted him on it as a moral issue, he can hide behind the fact that it wasn't a legal issue (in terms of baseball rules, not federal law). To be honest, Dusty is SO laid back about everything that I can actually believe that he didn't (and still doesn't) know anything about what's going on in the clubhouse. Baker probably hangs out in his office with Neifi and Macias while th rest of the team is in the main room.
  18. Local paper today raised worries that even with a win over NU tomorrow, PSU might not make the NIT. Why? Because there are new rules governing the selection of the 40 team field, one of which is that any regular-season conference winner who doesn't win their conference tourney gets an automatic berth. In other words, every mid-major and small conference tourney upset adds another team to the NIT field, taking away at-large bids from major conference teams.
  19. after 7 innings. It has to be up by 15 after 5, up by 10 after 7.
  20. this was a great game. Glad I took the time to watch.
  21. Anyone else feel like they're watching a Cubs game?
  22. you're saying the horrible base-running by Cuba isn't fundamentally sound?
  23. so, is anyone willing to make some bold predictions and pick the whole tourney?
  24. i was about to post this. It's answer C in every state plus internationally
  25. D LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
