  1. That's not Wisconsin's fault. The Big 10 has a 2 year rotating schedule that determines who is on/off the schedule. Some teams will always play each other (OSU and Michigan, PSU and MSU) but others rotate on and off. In 2005/2006, PSU did not play Iowa or Indiana, and the next 2 years, they don't play Minnesota or Northwestern. Heck, a few years back they went 2 seasons without playing Michigan. I also doubt the Big 10 is the only team that does this.
  2. I definitely think he's a head case. Getting cut in favor of your younger brother has to sting a bit too.
  3. If it's not on rotoworld, i don'ot buy it
  4. They are in a conference and since the Big East is so terrible ND wouldn't even have to play their starters all year. Why not just make the Big 10 the real Big 10 and have Penn State and ND join the Big East. Not sure you pull Penn State out after 13 years in the conference. Whatever will become of the storied Land Grant Trophy game? And from my own biased perspective, I wouldn't want Penn State to have to deal with the BS that WVU, Louisville, etc. have this year. "Yeah, PSU is 10-1, but who did they beat? Pitt? South Florida? Rutgers?" Forget it. They have the recruiting power to hang in the Big 10 and I like the challenge Are you serious? ND and Penn State plus what's already in the Big East? In any given year it could be the top conference in college football. I do think that big rivalry game Penn State vs Michigan St is a good as it gets. Way better than a Pitt/Penn State game. Also, if Penn State were in the Big East this year they would have had anywhere from 2 to 4 losses in the Conference alone. looking back at their pre-Big 10 days, Penn State actually played quite a lot of games agains the Big East. 2 to 4 of Syracuse, Pitt, BC (who was Big East at the time), Rutgers, or Miami every year. Believe it or not I think that there are Academic considerations for joining the Big Ten. I am not dissing the fine insitutions of the Big East but one of the reasons Penn St joined the Big Ten were for Academics. And Penn State is forever trying to catch Michigan academically.

They held OSU, UM and Wisconsin to 14, 17 and 13 points respectively
  7. What most people mean by 'Runs Created' is the amount of runs resulting from the sum of a player's offensive contributions. Thus the situational biases of runs scored (for leadoff men) and RBI (for cleanup hitters) is eliminated. There are several complex mathematical formulas out there. For a quick and dirty measurement use OBP X SLG X AB. For great offensive players it's a little high, but you'll get the idea. THANK YOU! I've been running sim leagues online for 8 years and I've never known what our software's RC formula was. It clearly wasn't the R+RBI-HR one. You made my day!

  9. Penn State beats Bucknell in OT with a 3 at the buzzer. Their first road game is at Georgia Tech. Crikey!
  10. No Huston Street yet?
  11. No way do we go into Opening Day with an 8 man bullpen. I'm not sure what Piniella's tendencies are, but usually 6 is standard, 7 if you have a streak with no off days. So subtract Ohman and Novoa and add two bench players. Or trade Eyre, etc. to get the missing SP
  12. It actually doesn't make any sense for the Cubs to NOT give someone #21 unless they plan on retiring it. And we know how stingy they are on retiring numbers....
  13. or Notre Dame to the Big 10, some combo of Boise St./Hawaii/BYU/TCU/Utah to PAC-10 I'm operating under the assumption that ND won't join a conference. Even if they'd be receptive to it in the future, they've got four more seasons of NBC dollars to look forward to at least (and that's assuming that NBC wouldn't want ND back, which considering the future of the team wouldn't be a good bet). Well then there's no point in making all these changes. It's either ND to the Big Ten or nothing. Why would you say that? I thought what I proposed was fairly reasonable. No teams from below the Mason-Dixon in the Big 10 please. I hate conferences that are all over the map (CUSA, I'm looking in your direction)

  15. That could be another possible solution. Use the conference championships to decide who gets to move on. But I'd still limit the games to 10 + confernce championship. Split the confernces up with six teams in each division. Make schools join a conference. Each conference gets an automatic bid. How many conferences are there in D-I anyway? ACC (12 teams) Big XII (12) Big East (8) Big Ten (11) CUSA (12) MAC (12) Mountain West (9) Pac-10 (10) SEC (12) Sunbelt (8) WAC (9) Plus 4 Independents (though Temple will be in the MAC next year)
  16. make it all or nothing. Either expand every conference to 12 teams and have a conference championship, or no conference championships at all
  17. How about you play all your New Years Day games, have one final BCS ranking, and the top 2 teams play on the 8th for the NC?
  18. "When are you handing out #21?" And murph wonders why no one comes on his show... what does that even mean?
  19. What, you don't like a 2 hour browns chicken advertisment interupted by 10 minutes of Murph making no sense? isn't this the time of the year for them to shift their advertising to Vermont Teddy Bears?
  20. they jumped the shark on this one
  21. Name me the last World Series winner whose team was comprised mainly of homegrown talent
  22. I like that she took the total # of strikeouts in 2006 (160) and divided it into the value of the entire contract. It should have been $106,000 per K, not $850,000 per K. Apparently you don't need basic math skills to be a journalist these days.
  23. Before signing with the Cubs, all we ever heard was how much Maddux wanted to play near his home in Arizona....
  24. Wasn't Russ Grimm a football player? Bronco Nagurski is the best football name. Dick Butkus disagrees
