  1. Living Hall of Fame members vote only for those on the Veterans Committee ballot. They do not vote in this phase of Hall of Fame balloting. This phase is reserved for BBWAA members who have been members for at least 10 years. ah, my mistake. But is it the BBWAA or the Veteran's vote that is notorious for voters not sending ballots? It seems to me it was the "old" (no pun intended) Veterans Committee that had trouble getting its full complement to vote. Before the system was revamped, the Veterans Committee was made up of a panel appointed by the Hall of Fame. Some of the older members at times could not get to the meeting. The new Veterans Committee has higher voter turnout as does the BBWAA. and the system allows you to vote for as many or as few players as you would like, correct?
  2. Actually it's Wisconsin that's offering the money to Buffalo. hmmm. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/23/sports/ncaafootball/23college.html?ei=5088&en=6c9319bdf85298db&ex=1313985600&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&pagewanted=print Yup, that link proves Cuse's point. Buffalo is getting paid over half a million dollars by Wisconsin to let Wisconsin destroy them. or, about as much as the Cap One Bowl pays. crap like this makes the "but the athletes get a free education" defense real weak. The University is willing to throw it's players to the hounds in order to build a new wing on the library. AWESOME
  3. will be interesting to see how all the calling for Griese will affect Grossman's confidence.

  5. strange situation for them. two points either way to the fourth ranked team could mean the difference between a BCS game and the Lampshade Bowl. A similar thing happened to Tennessee in 2004. We made it to the SEC championship with two losses (I still have a little hate for ND for knocking Ainge out for the year in our loss to them) and outplayed Auburn but still lost and dropped from a BCS bowl to the Cotton Bowl. We went on to demolish TAMU in the bowl. Funny how the Cotton bowl is considered an inferior bowl. When I was a kid it was one of only 4 bowls on New Years day and it was a big one. The Southwestern Conference champ would go and play an at large. I remember Joe Montanas(really Notre Dame) comeback against Houston was a Cotton Bowl Yeah, the Cotton Bowl was the last bowl left out of the BCS-I have no idea how it became such a minor bowl so fast. Somehow the Fiesta elbowed its way in there

  7. If you're wearing a shirt from years ago, its sort of a "cred" thing. A couple years back I was going to the "Harley Davidson Hundredth Anniversary Road Show" and wore a Bob Dylan T-shirt from a concert I went to in 1994. While 10 years certainly isn't a ton in the Dylan career it separated me from the wanna-bee twenty-somethings that were there to smoke pot and try and get love from some hippy chicks. yep, that's not as bad. Seeing people at the 1994 Pink Floyd show wearing concert t-shirts from the 70's was cool. It's the clown wearing the shirt they just bought outside over their polo shirt that irk me.
  8. the HoF voting is a sham. 75% should only be mandatory if they make it mandatory for all eligible vpoters to actually cast ballots. plus we know that the voters are living HoF members, many of whom hold personal grudges, don't like the "new way of baseball", or purposely don't vote for players at their own position as to not somehow dilute their own greatness (coughjoemorgancough)
  9. I haven't lived in Chicago for about 18 months, but I never had the impression that Sammy hate was based on steroid allegations whatsoever. There were so many other reasons to hate him
  10. i don't get why people hate on this, either. bands think it's cool that you wear their merchandise to shows...hell, it's a great way for them to get revenue, for one. it's just a personal thing. I usually got to concerts alone, and like to chat with other people before the show, in between sets, etc. If someone is wearing a t-shirt of a different band than we're seeing, it's a conversation starter. Obviously we both like the band we're there to see.
  11. okay, i give up. who?
  12. Don't be that guy Derwood...wasn't that in a movie? I have to confess, I've worn the band t-shirt...mainly back in highschool when i'd buy the shirt there. Now the closest I get is I wore a pink floyd hat to see Roger Waters this summer....that's ok right? :) that quote is from "PCU" I get annoyed because it seems redundant to wear a Rolling Stones t-shirt to a Rolling Stones concert. Really, you like the Stones? I never would have guessed! A Stones fan at a Stones concert? WOW. Strangely, I don't have the same pet peeve with sporting events
  13. Does anyone know Boras' net worth? He easily makes more money per year than any player in the game.
  14. fixed
  15. Oh, are they still playing college football? The Big 10 wrapped up a week ago. You're not telling me that the NCAA has a glaring disparity in school schedules, are you?
  16. The Bears were the NFL equivalent of Penn State today. Great defense, okay running, and a quarterback who can't throw under pressure. You hold the Pats to 17 and force 5 turnovers and you should feel good about winning.
  17. I am thrilled with the notion that 3 of the 10 BCS teams may be Wake Forest, Rutgers and Boise St. That makes me happy to no end.
  18. PSU with wins over Bucknell and St. Joseph's in their last 2 games. 4-1, all home games thus far.
  19. You mean besides the fact that you don't play for the Cubs? So, jerseys are supposed to advertise fact? If that is the case, I guess I'm supposed to believe there are 14,000 Zambrano's walking around Wrigley when I go to a game? If someone chooses to put their own name on a jersey, I don't take offense that they never played for the team. I can make the mental adjustment that some guy named Finkleman in a Cub jersey two rows in front of me probably isn't avoiding his responsibilities in the dugout. No worries, I have weird pet peeves, that's all. I also hate going to rock concerts and seeing people wearing a t-shirt of the band they're watching.
  20. I almost got a Mark Recchi Penguins jersey back around 1990 or 1991, literally weeks before he was traded to Philly My only jerseys are a #32 PSU jersey (Ki-Jana Carter at the time) and a #7 Bengals jersey (Esiason)
  21. I really don't get ideas of starting Lugo or Soriano in CF. They have COMBINED to play....wait for it....ONE game in CF in their careers. I know, let's sign JD Drew to play catcher! Maybe Vicente Padilla can spell Izturis at SS! you're right. moving padilla to ss is just like moving soriano one spot over in the OF to CF. clearly my sarcasm was aimed at the idea of putting a SS in CF, not Soriano
  22. i have NEVER seen so many 4th down attempts in one half of football in my life
  23. When did Brady Quinn turn into Anthony Morrelli?
  24. Boise St. in a BCS bowl would be a travesty. Outside of an early win against Oregon St, they have played absolutely no one. Just because a team goes undefeated against a high school schedule does not entitle them to a BCS game. Although it would be kind of fun to watch them get massacred. you have to feel bad for them though. That program has done a great job in recruiting and building a good team....not their fault that the rest of the conference is a joke. I think it's elitist to say that only teams from the 6 BCS conferences should be allowed to play in a BCS game. Boise St. has been pretty well punished in both the polls and computer, but staying undefeated has forced them in there. If they lose today, then no problem, they go to the whatever bowl. If ND loses tonight, would you still put them in as an at-large over BSU?
  25. one less soft tossing lefty to lose to this year
