  1. Well MacPhail has been linked to the commissioner job when Selig steps down, so yes, it would probably not be in his best interest to assume that title as a "big-spending, large market" guy.
  2. as Rotoworld says, "at least signing Floyd to play LF will guarantee a lot of playing time for Murton." If people are scared by Drew's injury bug, they should be fleeing in horror at Floyd
  3. i'll take Soriano at $17 mil/year over Furcal at whatever he got last year
  4. I haven't read all 98 pages of this so pardon me if this has been brought up before: For those complaining about still paying him $17 million when he's 38 years old, how do we know that in the 2014 market that won't be a bargain? At the rate salaries are increasing, backup catchers may be making $8 or $9 million a year by then (and superstars making $25million+).
  5. I don't understand how Michigan is screwed since they are still #2. In Most cases the #2 teams drops a couple after a loss but they didn't. I like Michigan but they had their shot at OSU. screwed because if the schedules matched up, they would play OSU AFTER USC played ND Well they should have beat OSU then. Once you lose this whole system goes stupid. i'm just saying that the unaligned schedules work against the teams that finish earlier. In other words, if USC and UM's scheduled lined up, USC could have defeated ND, but if UM lost a close game to OSU in the last week, they may have still finished #2 (like they are right now). But now USC gets 2 more games to leapfrog an idle Michigan team, etc., etc.

  7. that game was completely winnable. The Bulls missed like their last 30 shots (it seemed). You hold the Lakers to that few points you ought to win. It seems like the team can't get scoring from more than one guy a night
  8. early Jason Jennings rumors had the Astros involved
  9. this, of course is where the system fails. Michigan is done playing, but USC and some of the SEC teams have 2 more games to play. The timing is unfortunate for Michigan. As Doug Flutie stated in the post-game show Saturday, "if this game (OSU vs. UM) was in Week One, would we even be discussing this?" In other words, Michigan is more likely to be screwed out of the NC game by losing late than they would have by losing early. Likewise, USC will get more of a boost by beating a #5 ND team late than Michigan did early. If it comes down to USC and Michigan, I look at Michigan's 1 loss being to the #1 team in the country, while USC's to an unranked team. Voters probably won't see it that way.
  10. Michigan staying #2 in the BCS AND the AP is very, very interesting.
  11. Supposedly yes. Or it was implied when he said the cubs are still looking for a CF and starting pitching. Maybe Lou wants Soriano as his #1 bench option ;)
  12. Assuming Bruce is accurate, I can't think of anyone other than Drew that I would want in CF than Jones. Lugo is going to cost nearly twice as much and is at best an equal hitter. I'd prefer to trade Jones and move Sori to CF where his production is more valuable because there are better options to upgrade in RF than CF. But I guess it all depends on what Jones could net us in a trade. actually, my point was more that people hated Jones' deal because it was 3 years. Well 8 years on Soriano is almost completely untradeable without eating money (a la A-Rod)
  13. In case anyone thought Jacque Jones' 3 year deal was untradeable....
  14. Last time I checked, the Big 10 doesn't have to do that-they just love tradition, and that's what they choose to do. They could play next week just like all the other conferences are if they choose to-blame the Big 10, not the NCAA. I wouldn't mind seeing a Big 10 Championship game. I think that would be a good idea for the Big 10 as well-they would just have to figure out what 12th team to add in order for them to be eligible to have a championship game. ND, but they won't cooperate ;) I wish they would. They are a perfect Big 10 team, with a natural rival already built in. They will never do it because of the money. But yes, I would LOVE to see a 12 team Big 10 (the Big 12?...oh wait) And have a 10 game conference schedule. PSU, O$U, Michigan, MSU, ND, IU in one division and UofI, Iowa, Wisconsin, Purdue, NU and Minnesota in the other.
  15. So why is it that all Big 10 teams have to play 12 weeks in a row and finish before Thanksgiving, while USC has like 2 more games and the Big East keeps going? I hate the NCAA, I really do
  16. I don't see how short/mobile/elusive are in any way related. Smith is a smart, polished pocket passer who is very accurate and can throw a lot of the NFL throws. He also can run. If anything limits his NFL productivity, it's likely his size, and possibly ability to throw the deep ball. I don't agree on arm strength. He has thrown some ropes down field, sometimes off his back foot
  17. I agree. Smith's pretty small, not all that tall, and not fast enough IMO to be a Vick/Young style QB in the NFL. It'll be interesting to see if he becomes a WR or something else. Right, like Michael Robinson on San Fran. He's mostly a 3rd down running back guy who can catch screens, etc.
  18. I seriously think Smith wins the Heisman then falls into obscurity a la Gino Torretta, Charlie Ward, etc. Despite Vick and Young in the NFL, I just don't see the league heading towards a short/mobile/elusive QB style. Brady Quinn is built like a NFL QB and will fit into more teams' systems
  19. Troy Smith will win the Heisman Brady Quinn will have the better NFL career
  20. congrats to O$U. I now hope you lose 110-0 in the BCS game
  21. there was 1, coute 'em, ONE holding playin the MSU/PSU game today. No wonder we couldn't get to the QB. In other news, does Troy Smith ever miss a pass?
  22. PSU looks to be headed to the Outback Bowl. Hope they find an offense between now and then.
  23. I have bitter feelings towards the Big 10-Rose Bowl tie in. Cost PSU a shot at the NC in 1994 Does the sting of that year make you happier that the BCS is in place, and at least you'd get your shot now? no, i'm stil bitter
