  1. Ouch The Cubs made the playoffs 4 times in the last 22 seasons, and that was during a time when they were typically in the top 10-12 in payroll, they'd have to go 11 straight without the playoffs in order for Soriano to never see October baseball in Wrigley. That's doubtful in the wild card era, especially with what looks like a top 5 payroll. Even Hendry wouldn't do that. seemed like an unneccessary jab by Rotoworld for sure
  2. Grrr...SF vs. New Orleans!? At least you get SD-Buffalo instead of Oakland-Houston on CBS. I am right at the intersection of Red and Green. Oh well, I'm probably working all day Sunday and won't see the game anyways
  3. I'm working in the morning and then getting family pictures at 2pm, so not sure how much football i'll see Saturday
  4. A straight up 4 man rotation? No. But I do wish that Piniella would skip the 5th guy every time an off day comes along. How often (especially in the first half) does a guy REALLY need an extra day rest? Unless his manager has had him out there 130 pitches a start, of course
  5. could we vote in someone from another team?
  6. I wouldn't exactly say you're "missing" anything. "We understand you've been missing a lot of work, Peter." "I wouldn't say I've been missing it, Bob."
  7. Shoot, I'm missing this. I can't say I remember ever hearing Soriano speak before
  8. "The damage... would be relatively minimal?" Pagan was pretty bad for his 200 AB. Not that I support the idea in any way, but seeing how bad Pagan was shows that the fan vote has a limited amount od damage. How much worse can there be? Pagan is Carlos Beltran Jr.! Don't you listen?
  9. It's quite obvious to those paying attention. But it's still something that needs to be plainly written out. There's still a large contingent bewildered about Pierre not returning. Many people think the Cubs problem is a lack of small ball and poor defense. It's not saying a lot, but it appears to be an answer to a chat question, and it's a 100% accurate statement. It's plenty accurate, but it's kind of silly to not even answer the person's question. The question about the contracts and the impending sale was perfectly legitimate, and Neyer just brushed it off completely with a completely different issue. making fun of Hendry's OBP problems is the trendy new think in chat's and Q&A's
  10. Maybe what he meant was "MVP should go to the team that lucked into going to the playoffs with a barely above .500 record"
  11. If we sign him, can we trade him to the Expos for Henry Rodriguez?
  12. Nothing sadder than a professional ATHLETE failing a physical
  13. I agree. I hate the argument that discredits the team for keeping the game close.
  14. They should have a Big Ten-ACC challenge in football... then the Big Ten would show them who's boss. Let's see....we'll even leave poor Duke out of it: OSU vs. Wake Forest.....OSU UM vs. Ga. Tech.....UM Wisc vs. Va Tech....Wisc PSU vs. BC.......toss up Purdue vs Maryland........Maryland Minnesota vs. Clemson......Clemson Indiana vs. Miami......Miami Iowa vs. FSU.....toss up NU vs. Virgina....no idea MSU vs. NC State.....who cares? Illinois vs. UNC.....again.... I guess I don't know enough about the crappy ACC teams, but if you stack them up by final standings, it looks like the Big 10 is dominant at the top, and then it gets more even lower down
  15. assuming you can extend him, which is in no way guaranteed if he thinks he can make $13 per in free agency
  16. yes, it's usually called "just before the player hits free agency"
  17. Once again: That game should never have been that close. Ohio State thoroughly dominated the game, and if not for Troy Smith fumbling a snap and Doug Datish completely botching another, Ohio State wins the game by 13 or 17 and we're not even having this discussion. but they did, so it was that close. As they say, if the Queen had balls...
  18. Never been to Dino's... I live in Houserville so it shouldn't be hard for me to shoot over there and try it. You ever go to the buffet at Hi-Way Pizza? It's awesome... I love buffalo chicken pizza. When I win a gift card for stuff at Dante's Restaurants (won playing poker), I usually just end up using it on a Hi-Way pizza buffet. speaking of poker, I played a free tourney at Quaker Steak and Lube last Thursday (thanksgiving). Lots of fun. I came in like 19th out of 50 or so. Top prize was a seat in the QWK Rock tourney (whose winner gets a seat at an Atlantic City tourney). They do free hold em' every Monday and Thursday night. Cheap beer specials too (pints of Yuengling for $2) I've been to a couple of them, and I did want to go on Thanksgiving since I was stuck in town working, but my shift started at 9:30, so I couldn't play. Some of the people there are hilariously bad. I saw somebody call an all-in with 54 on a flop of AAQ. Anyway, PM me sometime if you're going and if I'm going to be there, I'll look for you. will do. I'm pretty limited to when i can play since i'm home with the kids during the week, but if they play the week between Xmas and New years, I'll be there. Bring the kids! Outside of Sesame Place, you can't do any better for family fun than taking them to a bar where people are drinking, smoking and playing cards! looks like my wife may be working from home during December, opening the possibility for me to go play every Monday night. I'll let you know
  19. almost too logical to be true. One way or the other I expect Hendry to enter the Winter Meetings in a Brinks truck
  20. Okay, this was one of those "you know you're old when" moments today. The Pirates announced their coaching staff for the Spikes today. Manager: Turner Ward Pitching Coach: Wilson Alvarez Hitting Coach: Mike Moriarty You've been watching sports for awhile when all the players you remember are suddenly in their 40's and coaching.
  21. At least the Bulls don't hate cornrows anymore
  22. Rumblings over the past 50 years have suggested that Boston isn't exactly a great place for minorities to live. Not that the people are necessarily racist, but that there isn't as large of a contingent of Hispanic or African American people there as in many other large metro cities like NY, Chicago, or LA and that means less things that might interest people or those origins. Or...Manny could just be a weird guy and wants a change of pace once in a while. I don't exactly know how "Manny being Manny" would work with Sweet Lou in the dugout. Not that Manny has done anything remotely criminally wrong, but I've said it a thousand times, if the Cubs want to put an outfield of Hitler, Hussein, and OJ out there, that's fine by me as long as they win the WS. Point being, as long as they produce, I could care less what they are doing the other 21 hours of the day when they aren't winning ballgames. Thanks Barry
  23. That man is a walking cardiac arrest timebomb. At least he's in a low stress job
  24. late rally falls short and PSU loses to Ga. Tech by 4
