  1. Hey now, Ward is not a good player. He's a decent bench option, and that's it. Yes, he found a good bench player. I'm not championing him to do anything more than pinch hit 3 or 4 times a week.
  2. Hendry's new found obsession with BA w/RISP actually got him a good player. I guess a blind squirrell DOES occasionally find a nut
  3. You totally contradict yourself. You say "no one said anything about not signing a player because he played for the Cards," yet a few sentences later say that "you add the fact that Marquis is a former Cardinal" making it worse. Which is it? What? That's not contradicting myself at all. We're talking about what number he will wear. It's bad enough to give Sammy's old number to another player period. The fact that the other player is a former member of our rivals is an even harder smack in the face. The first statement of mine that you have quoted is in regards to player acquisition, the second is in regards to something completely unrelated. never mind the fact that Marquis didn't play for the Cardinals while Sammy wore #21 and either way, management shouldn't decided who can/can't wear numbers based on what their former team was. The Cubs vs. Cardinals rivalry is much more about the fans than the players or front offices
  4. Dawson didn't wear #19, Lilly isn't wearing #31, and McDonough doesn't handle signings or trades. Yes, I already admitted to the first two mistakes. I misspoke on the third. You totally contradict yourself. You say "no one said anything about not signing a player because he played for the Cards," yet a few sentences later say that "you add the fact that Marquis is a former Cardinal" making it worse. Which is it?
  5. why does he have to? I seriously don't get it. If you're going to hate a player for taking an available number (which happens to be the number they have always worn) then you are being petty
  6. Ted Lilly will wear #30. okay. he was listed as #31 on the Cubs Roster on espn.com sorry for the mistake on Dawson. You can sub my "Murton wears Dawson's #19" with "Barrett wears Dawson's #8" and my point stands
  7. The game Sammy left during may have been incosequential because the team was out of the race, but it WAS fan appreciation day. Sammy was always in it for himself. And there were plenty of other beloved Cubs who we aren't mad about jersey doubling. Murton wears Dawson's #19. Mabry wore Grace's #17. Ted Lilly will wear Fegie Jenkins' #31. And the fact that Marquis was a Cardinal shouldn't even come into the dicussion. That's a fan thing, not a front office thing. You think McDonough shouldn't sign/trade for a former Cardinal if he thinks that player can help the team? Get over it.
  8. i want them to add the one orange sleeve to the already hideous uniforms
  9. Seriously what is with them? Some games they look like a tournament team, other games they lose to freakin SE Louisiana. they play the "name on the shirts" as the coach says. In other words, they play down to the competition and have no focus. I predict they'll lose at least 2 or 3 games to teams like Northwestern but will upset a team like OSU or MSU
  10. I completely, completely disagree. Marquis had #21 in St. Louis, the number isn't retired, and Sosa hasn't been on the team for a few years. If Sosa had died or something, then yes, that's fine, but I think the Cubs would be douchebags if they made him change his number because it was worn by a player a few years ago Because it was worn by a player a few years ago? It was worn by arguably the greatest Cubs of all time. Marquis is a crap player, and shouldn't even think about wearing the same jersey number that Sammy Sosa wore. Yes, Sammy was awesome, but bridges were burned. If the number isn't retired, then someone else should be allowed to wear it. If you don't want a "crap player" to wear it, retire it, simple. Clearly the team doesn't hold Sosa in as high regard as some fans. It's important to this franchise that players embody what it is to "be a Cub", and Sosa just isn't that. He was a great player who put up eye-popping numbers, but he'll never be confused with Banks or Santo as far as championing the Cubs and comitting his post-baseball life to the team (another reason I think Santo's number was retired....he has dedicated so much of his time and energy to the Cubs in the last 30 years. I just don't see Sammy following suit).

  12. no Bears for me :( . I think I have the Redskins game on FOX and the Steelers on CBS. Stupid not-in-Chicagoness of me
  13. Has Soriano created a charitable foundation in the DR so he can give his family free housing?
  14. I disagree with that last part, but anywho.... The Cubs are notoriously stingy about retiring numbers (just 4 in 100+ years) and I doubt #21 is run up the pole until/unless Sosa is in the HoF. Santo's wouldn't even be there if they didn't think he might pass on before getting the call from Cooperstown
  15. Reasons why we should honor that douchebag over Sammy? i would argue that Hill and Mabry are lamer players in their careers than Marquis. I know some don't like Grace, but despite his recent anti-Cubs sentiments, I loved him as a player and thought of him just as fondly as Sosa during his Cubs career. Plus, Grace was rather unceremoniously let go from Chicago as well.
  16. Penn State lost by 3 points to SE Louisiana. All is lost
  17. I think Bobby Hill and John Mabry wearing #17 is worse
  18. We can't extend the season for a playoff, but we can play bowls everyday until January 8th. I see...
  19. E-R-A-B-L-E!
  20. if Lilly/Meche are worth $10-$11 million per year, Matsuzaka is worth more than $8 mil. We'll see who blinks first. Is Boras willing to wait 2 years to break the bank for DM when he's a free agent?
  21. just here to wish the Bears luck. As luck has it, I'm working during the game and won't get to see one of the few Bears games on in my area this season. At least I'll see the playoffs.
  22. bring back Eric Kramer! (Erik?)
  23. It's really screwy. A network that hasn't produced a college football game all year gets the BCS games? Talk about selling to the highest bidder! ABC did a fantastic job all year and they get to sit home. Shameful
