  1. Nothin' but Buck, I bet! Needless to say, I won't be watching much. ha, yeah, they'll just teleport him from game to game. Will they be going with their NFL teams? I can't say I've seen a FOX college football game all year
  2. btw, I had just assumed that ABC would have all the major bowl games, but apparently FOX has most of the BCS games. No Herbsreit I guess :(
  3. and........I'll be watching none of these
  4. No option for Festivus Pole?
  5. I'm pretty sure the Bulls suck on Saturday nights.
  6. I thought you were banning yourself for a month if Marquis got signed? We grew up with a real tree each year, wife and I went artificial when we lived in apartments, now back to real since we bought a house. In fact, I'm bringing my 3 1/2 year old daughter out to cut one tomorrow.
  7. Yeah, but we're talking about Marquis here, so it could be 200 terrible innings. I've said a lot that I don't care about overpaying for good players, the problem is overpaying garbage, which is Hendry's weakness. I'm not going to worry about Marquis until it happens. People fretted about Meche for 2 weeks and he went elsewhere.
  8. As unneeded a stress as fretting over anything anybody involved with the team does before they do it. We're fans, we care what happens, a lot of us are going to fret. It's not a matter of choosing not to. If the roster of the Cubs matters to you, you're going to think about the ramifications of any move and interpret them with your own biases. What you are saying sounds very close to what a lot of people say about "He's the GM, I'll trust him to make the right moves and I'll just cheer the team." That is fine for those people who can do it. But it's not really possible for the people who fret as much as you have to in order to get involved in the discussions that take place on this site. I'm in no way blindly going along with Hendry. I just want good players. 100 RBI or 200 IP isn't weighted by how much they make when all is said and done
  9. Holy Cross played Duke, Syracuse and Dayton already, and they still have Providence and George Mason left. I'd argue that they have a tougher OOC schedule than Penn State. yes....i'm not arguing that. I'm saying Penn State has the lamest OOC of any major conference team.
  10. I don't care if it's Grossman improving or Griese coming in, but the offense has to improve. Recent history has shown that great defense alone won't get you far in the playoffs (okay, Baltimore, but I'd venture to guess that they scored a few points along the way). One bad defensive game (Philly, Carolina) in the playoffs and you're toast
  11. Stony Brook isn't Division I right? If they aren't, the loss doesn't go against PSU's RPI because the RPI only takes into effect the Division I games. I know this for a fact because last year, SIU lost to D2 Alaska-Anchorage, but the game didn't count as far as the RPI. It still qualified as one of our "bad losses" to the selection committee, but as far as the RPI went, it didn't help or hurt it. No, Stony Brook is an America East team. They were 4-24 last year, but they are D-I. For the record, Iowa and Northwestern are the only Big 10 teams with lower RPI's right now. St. Joe's is PSU's only quality win right now. The rest of their pathetic OOC is: @Seton Hall Long Island SE Louisiana Maine Virginia Military that is after already playing: Morehead St. NC Greensboro Stony Brook Bucknell St. Joe's @Georgia Tech Morgan St. Hartford it would be tough to find a power conference team with a crappier OOC
  12. Aren't vesting option criteria pretty limited? Mostly based on playing time (starts, IP, PA's, etc.)? Can't be based on statistics, right?
  13. Despite the craziness, this issue should matter to fans. Too many ridiculous deals leads to an unhealthy situation down the road (see the Orioles). Unless we are guaranteed that payroll will continue to rise steadily and be far higher than most teams, we should hope the Cubs avoid the bad deals. A bad highly paid player can do two things to hurt the team: A) He can play poorly and keep getting playing time either because the manager feels he should player the expensive guy or the GM forces the manager to play the guy. B) He could force the team to not be able to improve in other areas by tying up money. You should mind if this is a 3/30m or 1/2.5m type deal. I think you can't judge that until the end of the deal though. We have no idea how well/poorly Marquis might pitch for the Cubs, so fretting about the dollars up front is just unneeded stress. Of course you don't want your GM digging you into a financial hole (cough*Marlins*cough) but I'd rather criticize a signing based on on field production than dollars and years
  14. honestly, I could give a rat's crap about how much these guys get paid anymore. The salaries are off the charts. It's not my money. I only care about if they'll be good or not. Clearly it's a player's market. Also, if this trend continues, $8mil/year will seem like nothing in 2 years.
  15. does Giles have the range to play short? can he play defensive tackle? (oops, wrong thread)
  16. I guess if they expect to lose Marquis and Suppan (and don't want to spend on FA starters) then they have limited options
  17. # of games played in that duration: Huff: 828 Drew: 707 Just sayin. Sure, of course. I'm just answering the question as to how this writer is saying Huff was more productive than Drew the past 5 years. Hitting metrics aren't the only way to measure things. And let's not discredit Huff for staying healthy.
  18. Yeah, and if Bush won the Presidency in 2000, Alec Baldwin was moving to Canada. Don't make promises you won't keep! If you do decide to take time off, the least you could do is set up a bot to post periodically and give us Josie goodness
  19. They aren't using a metric to say Huff has been more productive. They're using run production numbers: Huff (01-06): 129 HR, 428 RBI, 377 Runs Drew (01-06): 99 HR, 327 RBI, 371 Runs
  20. I'm not going to freak out about Bonds breaking this record, since A-Rod and/or Pujols will be breaking it in the next 10 years or so
  21. of course, having a terrible OOC schedule is probably the only chance Penn State has of having a winning record, and therefore, a bid into the NIT. When you lose to Stony Brook and barely beat Hartford and Morgan St, you should just give up on any NCAA tourney aspirations. i keep waiting for DeChellis to light a fire under their butts, but he's been rubbing two sticks together for 8 games now and nothing has done the trick. They are falling into the "playing the name on the jersey" mentality, not taking these "bad" teams seriously, while playing hard against GT. The team has talent, and should be beating these bad schools by 10-15 points per game, but they just play with no energy or focus. If it doesn't change, they are going to get murdered in Big 10 play.
  22. article in today's CDT reminding us of how PSU's OOC is going to kill their RPI. They are 6-2 with an RPI of 135. As the article says, "The potential for easy wins over weak teams can be completely cancelled out by an upset loss." PSU's two losses are to Georgia Tech (fine for the RPI) and Stony Brook (RPI killer). They may have to win 9 or 10 Big 10 games in order to dance in March....a tall order
  23. can Brian Griese play defensive tackle?
  24. wrong again career 42% shooter (and barely 31% from three). Makes up for it at the free throw line. But TT is right, he's your typical 13 for 30 shooter while 9 for 10 at the line. He throws up a million shots which keeps his scoring average up
