  1. so, big picture, the trade actually was Barrett/minor leaguer for Kendall/minor leaguer
  2. the gap between "hot" and "would hit it" is very wide for some of us
  3. At that pitcher can only help you, at most, once every three games in the playoffs. The bat can help you every game. and would need to after marquis and/or hill cough up 6 runs in the first 2 innings. Ideally we'd get both
  4. oh wow, when your cleanup hitter is a 58 year old Ray Durham.....
  5. correct. I think vance's game notes are wrong (as it said we're 3 behind the dodgers)
  6. I like vance's game notes, but I have to ask: despite being broken up into quotes and multiple posts, doesn't this violate the site policy for reproducing articles? just asking
  7. put me in the minority here allowing oursleves to dream (for a moment) about a Cubs playoff appearance, who (besides Z and Lilly) do you trust handing the ball to? Me? No one. Marquis is crashing back to earth, teams have figured out Hill, and the lack of experience by Marshall makes me uneasy. Another bat might GET you to the playoffs, but an ace pitchers WINS you the playoffs
  8. On the one hand, I'm thrilled with the Cubs recent success and ability to fight their way to 4 over. On the other hand, the fact that this team can play this well makes the poor April/May that much more frustrating. If anything, you can argue the team in April/May was better than the bunch out there right now (at least on paper). Oh well, keep at it boys
  9. i requested a change to Braun but it didn't make the list :-k
  10. That was Derwood. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/images/smiles/eusa_whistle.gif
  11. Another 10 hour work day means I won't be watching any baseball. I'll check the scores at intermission tonight.
  12. Brewres lose and Braun homers twice. My new HR Derby Wildcard helping me out in a losing cause!
  13. it's unofficial, but ESPNews crawl says a "reported 2 year deal" He's 32 years old, played for Philly last year. 6'10", 225 lbs. 8.5 pts, 6.2 reb, 0.8 assts in 25 min/game last season. Nice bench option, but not the starting big man the Bulls need
  14. That's Zell, he's the one selling the Cubs and doesn't have that obligation. The Trib is still a publicly traded company, and their debt holders will hold sway over any large transactions. i thought someone said he was making it private, thus buying off the stock holders and taking it off the trade floor I find it hilarious that the criteria for MLB owners is "someone who won't be good." Seriously, why is it in anyone's best interest to approve an owner who will likely make it harder for your own team to win? The system is very broken. This would be like Senators getting to approve who the new senators will be each year. They would never choose someone who will in any way compromise their own agendas
  15. okay, so fill me in here, as I haven't been following this too closely. This Zell (or whoever) guy is buying the team just to sell it again? Or is he buying the entire Tribune Co.?

  17. where's killthegoat06 with my update?
  18. fixed
  19. there is a difference between a good business contract and a good baseball contract
  20. i would argue that SLG is more important than OBP for a corner outfielder
  21. What's really hilarious is that you don't have a basic understanding of the bottom-line nature of business and the importance of unique assets. i understand that the dude makes money. i'm just trying to say that there is no direct correlation between his making money for the team and the team spending more money on the team. for other examples, see: every team that has extorted a new stadium out of the taxpayers' pockets
  22. i think it's hilarious that some of you actually think that the supplemental income Ichiro provides for the Mariners is actually going back into payroll
  23. bad, bad deal. Who cares how much marketing he does? This hamstrings a team without a super high payroll. $20mil/year for a singles hitter? It's laughable if Ichiro is worth $20mil/year, A-Rod is worth $50mil/year
  24. the only thing untouchable about Pie right now is the inside pitch
