  1. this guy?
  2. Jim Edmonds
  3. is it just coincidence?
  4. those who don't know much about him will point to his years in Colorado and say the thin air elevated his stats
  5. Aren't they no different than pre-August 31st trades, except the players aren't allowed on the playoff roster? ah. for some reason I thought August 31 was the end all, be all trade deadline
  6. i don't know where we would have gotten those FIVE home runs from if he weren't in the lineup
  7. por que?
  8. outside of Chicago, i'd say Mark Grace was underrated .383 career OBP and 119 career OPS+ (with seven seasons of 120 or higher)
  9. Who else takes the fall for a team-wide drop in power? Derrek Lee: Career Average-28, 2007-17 Aramis Ramirez: Career-30, 2007-19 Alfonso Soriano: Career-34, 2007-20 Jacque Jones: Career-21, 2007-5 sure, there are 25ish games left, but it would be shocking for any of our main power guys reach their career averages (much less their career highs of 46, 38, 46, and 27 respectively)
  10. I agree. I also enjoy seeing Michigan completely falling out of the top 25. if Michigan really kill Oregon, I can see the stupid voters bringing them right back to the low teens again
  11. I think you'd be better off playing ND in November than now as far as prestige of the win goes. Media is all over them now losing to a Tech team that wasn't that highly thought of. By November they may be a 500 team that people could call surging. i just meant that after ND loses to Michigan, Purdue, USC, etc., it's not going to be impressive at all
  12. Penn State up to the 14/15 level. about right considering they played arguably the worst 1-A school in the country. beating the snot out of ND will help some, but i don't think that win will look that impressive come November
  13. Z is doing his best to drag the rotation back down to average (or below)
  14. i couldn't care less about being embarrassed in the playoffs. i just don't want the team thinking they did anything right. okay, "anything" is hyperbole, but i don't want an 83 win team to make the NLCS and for new ownership and/or the front office to think they're on the right track here. i'll put the question another way: which would you prefer, making the playoffs and seeing Hendry extended another 2 or 3 years, or missing the playoffs and getting a new GM?
  15. i'm not actively cheering against the team, believe me, but I don't see what the difference between finishing a game out and being swept by the Mets really is
  16. Aside from the "blah blah anything can happen blah 2006 Cardinals blah blah" reasons.... ....do we really want this team to make the post season? do we want anyone in the new ownership, the front office, the media, etc. thinking this team is doing anything right? do we want this insanely mediocre team to be be rewarded in any way, shape or form? this isn't sour grapes. i just don't know what we accomplish by making the playoffs. outside of an outright WS victory, it just seems useless.
  17. huge triple by brad ausmus, 3-0 Houston
  18. 2 on, 1 out for Houston in Milwaukee
  19. I've noticed. At least, it seems pretty obvious it's the same kid. I once pointed out how I never see him add any respectable discussion whatsoever to any conversation and he just went off telling me how he knows everything there is to know about baseball and shows it in all his posts. I said, again, I haven't seen it -- then he linked me to something like 3 posts in the last maybe 2 years in which he'd have one semi-reasonable baseball post followed by a dozen more of the asinine immaturity. Impressive, eh? and yet people continue to react to him exactly the way he wants them to
  20. i saw Dane Cook on the Tourgasm tour (in an arena with 20,000+ people) and he was very funny. that said, he's pretty played out right now
  21. Penn State wanting to see Michigan lose to a non-con team is like Cubs fans wanting to see St. Louis lose to, say, San Diego
  22. in field hockey, right?
  23. There's no way in hell they make the title game with this loss on their resume, though. Obviously if they win out they'll make a BCS game but pretty much any one-loss team from a BCS conference is going to look like a more worthy team than Michigan will be. And considering 2/3 of the BCS is based on the voters, Michigan's title hopes appear to be dashed. Jon's point, however, is that this loss does nothing to hurt their chances of a division title
