  1. why are people here so willing to send 5 players for 1? a) it's unnecessary, as most deals are 2 or 3 for 1 b) the roster headaches that causes make it not worth it
  2. Any prolonged stretch of .600 baseball would be more than acceptable. 12-8 would leave them at 63-54, or a .538 W%, good for a pace of 87 wins. That would also leave them with 45 more games to reach the 90 win plateau, which would mean going 27-18 the rest of the way, also a .600 W%. considering the "easy" games in this stretch are on the road and the "hard" games are at home, I stand by 12-8. Not knowing the pitching matchups makes it hard to guess though
  3. all I know is that it was the most excruciating pain I have ever been through in my life, and I wasn't able to start ANY exercises until approximately 4 months after the operation Prior very well may be better off than me because I had laxity in addition to a completely torn labrum, but my Dr warned me in advance that the recovery would be quite similar for either injury (just so happened I had both) you should have injected steroids into your calves. that might have helped
  4. i think 12-8 is realistic. anything more is gravy
  5. i am the perfect example of this :D
  6. you hate to hear this. it's amazing it doesn't happen more often
  7. Looking good for us. means we will be shut out You're probably right, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say we crush Wells. 10-2 Cubs is maroth a lefty? if so then that is really [expletive] to bump him for kip wells cuz we all know the cubs problems against Left handed starters this season....Here's hopin the return of DLee starts another nice stretch of wins after *gasp* losing two in a row for the first time in a month Maroth has an 8.10 ERA for St. Louis
  8. 5 words: Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano
  9. I have never been to Fenway or PNC (but want to desparately) but I don't think the Cell is anything great. I don't think Miller Park is the best ballpark but it's definately up there in my opinion. I like it much better than Oakland's park and Tampa's park. well those aren't hard to top. Shea is better than Tampa for crap's sake
  10. I was there once, back in 2001 (I think? The year with the 8 game losing streak followed immediately by the 12 game win streak) and it was the only game I've seen Kerry Wood start in person. That said, it can't hold the jock of Wrigley, Fenway, PNC.....shoot, I even like The Cell better (shudder)
  11. i said starting pitching (again) and am still in the minority
  12. http://www.photofile.com/Photos/Albums/Stadiums/MLB/Images/Miller_Park2.jpg and that's a flattering photo
  13. Really? I think you're the only person i've ever heard say that. What about it didn't you like? a) the parking sucks. If the place is sold out, they have parking for maybe 2/3 of the people. everyone else gets detoured off to god knows where. we ended up parking in some neighborhood and walking a mile (in the rain) to the park b) it's a huge concrete and plastic airport hanger. nothing warm and inviting about it at all. c) the roof was (is?) broken and they didn't open the windows Off course.... we never have that problem at Wrigley, eh? true, but Miller Park is built in the middle of a barren wasteland west of Milwaukee. They could've had 100 acres of parking had they so desired.
  14. "Superstar" is still the highest rank. No Hall of Fame rank yet.
  15. Willie Harris is 4-4 with 6 RBI's today. Coming into the game he had 12 RBI's in 180 at-bats this year. not only have the wheels comes off for Looper, but he's blown his carburetor, has a hole in his gas tank, and his brakes have locked
  16. Atlanta has 14 runs on 17 hits through 4 innings. They are beating the everloving crap out of those Red Birds
  17. I'm not getting in the middle of your Marquis debate, just wanted to point out that since June 3rd, the day after Piniella's eruption and the day his suspension began, the Cubs have averaged 5.02 runs per game. which means they aren't scoring 5+ everyday. yep. and you know what an ERA of 5.00 would mean...? if we're predicting a player's/team's future performance, what else do we have but averages? well, if we're saying he's only going to go 6 innings per start with a 5.00 ERA, that means he'd be giving up 3 1/3 runs per outing, which means 5+ runs scored would win every game (assuming the bullpen holds on) huzzah!! Marquis is gonna own the win column in the second half!!! the point is, you can't say 5 runs and a 5.00 ERA are the same. You also can't say that every game will be what the averages say
  18. i've been told that everyone regresses to the mean. i'm looking forward to jacque's 20+ home runs in the final 60 games

  21. i hated Miller Park and wouldn't go out of my way to go there again
  22. In 4,3,2,.... Eeeerrrrggghhhh He's talking about smallball. What smallball are we playing? Scoring half our runs with a home run? Getting singles and doubles? What does smallball even mean? Wasting outs with bunts, bleh. We're not playing smallball, we're playing smartball!!! well, pitching well, playing good defense and outscoring your opponents could be considered smart in some circles
  23. There are some pretty good players in Altoona. Neil Walker, Andrew McCutchen, Luis Munoz, Yoslan Herrera, Steve Pearce, , the resurrected corpse of Dewon Brazelton.....
  24. angelos would ask for zambrano, pie and ramirez to start
