  1. Its a little early in his career as a hitter to be saying that. Ankiel is homerun or nothing. He doesnt take walks at all. There have been plenty of guys to come up, and look like world beaters at first, only to have the league figure him out rather quickly, i.e. Mike Fontenot, Bo Hart, etc... Chris Shelton, Jack Cust.... Cust is still hitting. yes, but just 1 HR in his last 19 games, and just 3 in his last 32
  2. i would not welcome the media circus and myriad distractions brought about by signing bonds
  3. I read that and the first thing that came to my cynical Cub mind was Woody...  maybe Dempster has come down with those mysterious "back spasms" that always hit our terrible relievers

  5. 1%= 1 out of 100. There are usually, what, about 250 pitches combined between the two teams in a standard game? So 2-3 pitches per game are being called based on race?
  6. I've heard what MJ&H do, so I'm not clicking that link. There is nothing "great" about any of them
  7. if/when the Cubs win the division, remind me to check this cam again
  8. on the one hand, you want Milwaukee to lose, on the other, St. Louis isn't far behind. Ideally, St. Louis would win 2 of 3 while we sweep
  9. Maybe John Lennon, but the avi is Sean Lennon I believe, whose in the same boat as the 97 Marley kids who somehow continue to multiply and whore off their fathers name. you're right, you're right, it's the second generation musicians who are REALLY to blame for the Cubs weaknesses EDIT: while we're on the subject of avatars, how can Little Lord Fontenot bag on mine when he has the walking Cub logo getting backdoored by some other creature? Board rules?
  10. nice job with the jinx
  11. "record with Felix on the roster" is one of the biggest stretches of statistics i've seen here in some time
  12. #-o Sarcasm, I hope. Based on my back-of-the-envelope compuations, absolutely not. You have to take into consideration that pitchers can perform at a high level for many more outs than the number of games a hitter can perform at. A good hitter might play in 2,000 games in his lifetime at a high level whereas a good pitcher could pitch 2,500 innnings = 7,500 outs at a high level. Imagine if Tony Gwynn could hit .340 for 7,500 games. I'd say he could have at least tied Dimaggio's record just based on the sheer number of opportunities he'd have. Hmm....now I'm thinking about running some MATLAB simulations to test out this theory. there is some extremely fuzzy math going on in there
  13. woe is me! The poor, unlucky Cardinals are a whopping 5 1/2 games out of first place. poor guys might be 2 1/2 out if they sweep the Brewers this week
  14. A Giants/Bucs doubleheader and Astros vs. Dodgers. You heard it here first
  15. Self important much? How appropriate that you would chose a Lennon as your avatar. um, what?
  16. thank you good sir
  17. you can also manually delete the superflous quotes, which i do often
  18. Wednesday at Midnight. David Price is among several who haven't signed (league-wide)
  19. FWIW, the top-poster Tourney was SUPPOSED to be tongue in cheek and not at all to be taken seriously. I love that people at desipio actually thought we took it seriously at all
  20. there is probably more of a correlation with Soriano's performance than with the ludicrous "Cubs record with Pie on the roster" nonsense everyone loves to quote
  21. i'm tired of typing this, but: A 5.00 ERA for a guy pitching 6 innings per game DOES NOT MEAN he gave up 5 runs!!!!!! It means he averaged giving up 3 1/3 runs per 6 innings. STOP SAYING THIS
  22. ATTN: Little Lord Fontenot 1 - Click "File" 2 - Click "Open URL" 3 - Type "cubs.com" or "desipio.com" 4 - Click "Register" 5 - Fill out appropriate fields 6 - Wait for email confirming registration 7 - Enjoy your long future of nonsensical reasoning and knee-jerk opinions
