  1. he looked fine when he came back. he got stepped on, that's all. that last play in the Marquette/Nova game was unbelievably bad.
  2. nice to see that Penn State is focused here. With any hope, they'll build a big enough lead to rest Battle/Pringle/Cornley some in the 2nd half
  3. Battle hurt, but Pringle/Cornley are more than making up for it
  4. ESPN can take their "live look-in" and shove it
  5. ah, nuts. I always clicked that logo to get back to the message board index.
  6. Gordon and Rose both shot like Howry too. Can't pin that loss entirely on Tyrus
  7. did you see the Cleveland State cheerleaders the other night? some of them looked like they ate the USC cheerleaders for breakfast
  8. but will he BE dominate? that's the poll I want to answer
  9. way to completely miss the point perhaps the point wouldn't have been missed had he used a relevant example. no, you missed it. the point was to compare to players with nearly identical OBP's (but vastly different other stats), not to compare to players who are candidates to bat 2nd on the Cubs. umm, but the discussion is who should bat 2nd for the cubs. :banghead:

  11. when the Belgian is calling you out on your English, it's time to retire
  12. way to completely miss the point
  13. What just cause they don't run an offense or play much of a defense? Also, they have ugly uniforms. QFT
  14. DePaul gave it a valiant effort, but Providence hit every free throw in the final 2 minutes
  15. I don't want my #2 hitter to move runners over. I want him to get on base and drive runs in. If your offensive philosophy is to waste outs having your #2 guy just get your leadoff man into scoring position, you're doing yourself a disservice. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but the odds of scoring a run with a man on 1st and 0 outs is a lot higher than a man on 2nd with 1 out. well, your odds of scoring runs also greatly increase when you have your highest OBP guy hitting 2nd rather than 8th. all things being equal, yes, sure. But if you can get nearly the same OBP but far better SLG, the decision is a no-brainer. My bigger issue with the lineup (as projected) is the 3-4-5-6. Unless Lee rebounds from a pretty mediocre 2008, I'd rather see it go: 3. Bradley 4. Ramirez 5. Soto 6. Lee
  16. Harold Reynolds should be a scout. He fits the profile almost exactly: mediocre middle infielder who is in love with intangibles.

  18. The portion of the Jackets/Bruins game I saw had some fights, but all were "legit" (the first was after two Columbus players checked a Bruin into the boards at the same time). I dont' see a problem with the fighting as long as there aren't players being sent onto the ice by coaches simply to hurt other players
  19. Sorry if this has been posted already, but yesterday's paper had a graphic showing that they've had the highest number of fighting majors this season than in the past 5 seasons, and we're not even done yet. If last night's Columbus/Boston game is any indication of how the season has gone, I can see why.
  20. considering how much better everyone else in the lineup slugs, I think Theriot's OBP in the 8th spot is pretty valuable in terms of turning the lineup over and getting on in front of Soriano/Kosuke. As for moving runners over and hit and runs and all that, I don't buy into that school of baseball. Giving up outs is nearly always a terrible idea.
  21. no, they better be rooting for butler. brainfart and cleveland state is up 57-54 with 14 seconds left. it's over. have fun in the NIT, Penn State They're solidly on the bubble. Win 2 in the tourney, they're probably safe. Problem is, after Indiana they'd face MSU, right? A moot point. Indiana is the Big Ten's answer to DePaul. Bye bye PSU. I wouldn't be surprised. And even if they get by Indiana, they have to face the 3rd Team Big Ten'er Robbie Hummel! :bye:
  22. I thought they said NDState started D-1 in 2006
