  1. If one team clearly had more viewers and fans buying tickets, you could argue that H2H, ranking, schedule don't matter. But that's just not the case here. I'm arguing that the perception of the bowl selection folks is all that matters, not any actual facts I know. And I'm arguing that your idea of what the selection committee perceives to be true isn't all that accurate. Sure, but as long as you have highly subjective (and cash driven) committees picking these games, some facts and logic go out the window. At the end of the day, a BCS bowl could take either PSU or Iowa as an at-large and I wouldn't be surprised by either choice
  2. a 2-2 start for PSU already has my expectations way, way low

  4. The trolling crap is getting old. correct, so stop Where were you when I was defending Lovie Smith after the Cincinnati loss? When I said I thought the Bears were going to win in the third quarter in today's game? It's too bad that a poster can't point out the good and the bad in the Bears without a bunch of children critiquing him. It's too bad you can't keep yourself from rubbing everyone's nose in it when the Bears lose

  6. Iowa winning head-to-head and "deserving" it more means nothing to the bowl committees. They want butts in seats and viewers watching the advertisers. Penn State has a great history of doing both
  7. We'll see how it shakes out. There will be much controversy one way or the other.
  8. a) no one is going to give up 5 prospects for Halladay and b) Toronto probably wants an ML ready player or two in the deal. I'd think you'd have to start with guys like Marmol and Soto, and even then...
  9. The Orange Bowl is tied in to the ACC. The winner of Clemson/Georgia Tech will be going to Miami. I thought the Big East was tied to the Orange as well, but they sometimes shuffle it around for a better match up with an at-large. Either way, PSU vs. Pitt would draw big ratings/attendance No, the ACC champion is like 97% sure of going to the Orange Bowl. That's fine, then another bowl, then. Just spit balling here, since there is a chance that Pitt wins the Big East and the PSU/Pitt rivalry is one that fans have wanted to see come back for years

  11. Though Cincinnati has had a nice year, I'm rooting hard for Pittsburgh to win out so we can see a Penn State/Pitt Orange Bowl. I don't know how the Orange Bowl committee could pass that up
  12. Matt Millen is loving a terrible helmet-to-helmet hit. what a meatball
  13. spoiler that [expletive]!!!!
  14. the OSU throwback uni's are kinda cool. I dig the helmets
  15. NL FIP rankings: 1. Lincecum 2. Vazquez 3. Carpenter 4. Johnson, Josh 5. Kershaw 6. Wainwright Keith Law - 1 BFIB - 0
  16. true, a lot of new faces. Hopefully they improve through the OOC and can get some quality wins in conference. It can't be just Battle plus scrubs
  17. maybe the reporter had been in a coma since 1968?
  18. he is? Marshall's 2009 FIP was 4.10 Grabow's 2009 FIP was 4.29 in PIT and 3.83 for CHC The difference in salary is now ridiculous, of course
  19. Oops Yeah, this team is effed
  20. I'm not 100% sure, I think it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 60. okay. Without that base number, the WAR is sorta meaningless (to me)
  21. out of curiosity (since TT keeps using WAR), how many wins would a 25 man roster of "replacement level" players accumulate?
  22. He's not, that's why this is such a waste. One of Marshall/Gorzelanny is headed to the pen, and John Gaub spent last year incinerating Triple-A hitters. There's not a hole here to be filled. Russell is lying around if you want depth, and if things go bad I'm sure you can do what you did last year, and trade for a mediocre LH reliever at the deadline. agreed, waste of money, and Grabow is only marginally better (due, as has been shown, to some outlier stats). I'm just not terribly enamored with Marshall, but at his price, I'll roll the dice
  23. it's way too much money, but he IS better than Marshall
  24. Eagles 28 Bears 3
