  1. What do we think they will do? I, personally, will be fine if they decide to bail on next year and go for it in 2013.
  2. If the Red Sox get anything more than a mediocre A-ball pitcher, they should be happy. Minor leaguers are valued way more now than they were valued in 1994. So you're saying the compensation for Epstein should be lower. I see. . . You make a persuasive argument, EpsteinCubs. LOL
  3. I say Ricketts should just call Bud and let Bud tell the red sox to go [expletive] themselves.
  4. If Boston forced us to wait a year to hire Theo (not gonna happen), presumably a significant amount of the rest of his staff would be available at the same time, no?
  5. from another board: http://score670.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=63274
  6. We were all right about Emery.
  7. Astros are still a big market team, this is good news.
  8. Niether the Sox nor the Mariners got anything of value. the fact that randy winn was worth almost 4 wins a season during his two years in a mariners' uniform would seem to contradict your assertion here. Let me rephrase what I meant. The Rays and Marlins did not give up anything of value. That would be like the cubs giving up Marlon Byrd, he has no future here and we would like you to take his salary. well randy winn was paid about $10m over the three seasons that he was contracted to seattle, hardly a crippling contract for any organization, even the rays. he produced at a four win pace during the 2.5 seasons there, so he was worth way, way more than he was paid. at the time of the deal he was 28 years old and under team control for at least three more years. marlon byrd is 6 years older, has only one year left on his contract, will be paid twice what winn's average salary was, and isn't likely to be as productive. this is a terrible analogy. Winn signed a contract for $3.3 mil in 2003 after leaving the Rays. The Rays payroll that year was 19.6 million. Now, I have no way of knowing for sure, but I doubt that they planned to pay him that much.
  9. as opposed to piniella and guillen being forced at gunpoint to leave for new organizations. 10. at least one person in this thread has said that getting epstein could be more important than signing fielder or pujols, and everyone seems to agree that a good GM is really important, much more so than a manager. so why is it unreasonable for the red sox to ask for cashner when the marlins just gave up two of their top 5 prospects (coming into 2011, though their stock had slipped) for a lousy manager, and tampa gave up randy winn coming off a 5 win season to get piniella? Because if Epstein really wants to come here then Boston has no leverage to ask for anything of value. as opposed to piniella and guillen being forced at gunpoint to leave for new organizations. 11. By the way, I'd like to be the first to say I am sorry for doubting purpletshirt guy and hope he sticks around.

  13. Levine doesn't know [expletive].
  14. It bothers me that there is no video of this anywhere online. MLB are a bunch of nazis.
  15. Joe Buck just can't wait to get out of there.
  16. I love ferentz, but he is giving this game to penn state.
  17. !!!! They asked if Theo is the guy they want running the team going forward. "I think there is a certain shelf life with the General Manager as well as Manager." !!!
  18. They won't comment.
  19. Oh, God, they're going in "chronological order"
  20. really? every team does it. It's stupid when everyone does it, and i'd think the same even if the Cubs managed to ever do it again somehow. It's no different than winning the 1st/2nd round in the NHL/NBA/NFL and they manage not to pee themselves.
  21. Celebrating after winning the first round is pretty stupid.
  22. are you saying that liberals dont own guns? i own several and am quite liberal. i also would never move to chicago permanently, partly because of the strict gun control lawsBeertownCubbie and Nuts&Gum think you are a moron.
  23. Possible scenario? He wrote it like it was pure fact that if Epstein sign here it would be a part of a trade for Castro, with no sources or listed reasoning for why he is even saying this in the first place. It's kind of a weird article period. I jokingly mentioned trading Castro and Garza for Epstein a few pages back and people were all up in arms and some ridiculed the post. And I guess now you are hearing this from the real media. Granted Rosenbloom is not a great source for anything, but I even saw both of the above names mentioned in a Boston Globe article. http://articles.boston.com/2011-10-04/sports/30243174_1_ben-cherington-starlin-castro-cubs It will be interesting to see what they actually want for compensation. Given that presumably in any situation where Epstein comes to the Cubs he also does not want to stay with the Red Sox, theres not much they can do about it unless they want to keep a guy who doesn't want to be there. They'll get a midlevel prospect or cash.
