  1. Iowa State is capable of losing that one since our three best players from last year are gone, but I'm hoping superior size and talent can win out over experience. Either way it probably won't be a blowout, ISU only won by 20 in their tune up yesterday with Nebraska-Omaha. I'm still excited for the season though, a decent recruiting class is coming in and anything is better than watching the football team either getting blown out or choking double digits leads. I'd think Iowa State should be fine, though I wouldn't put it past UCD to pull it out. UCD's working in two new players into the starting lineup who transferred and a couple other redshirts into their rotation so I'm thinking it will take them a little time to start to play together. You going to the game? Yeah, next weekend will be interesting. 3 basketball games and a football game to go to. ISU won't have one of their starting(?) guards for the first few weeks either, so I'm just hoping they hold serve in November.

  3. ESPN just gave an update reiterating how awesome the Cubs rotation would be w/ Peavy, and saying the Dodgers are in the running. Said something to the effect of whoever offers the most good, young players will get him. I never would've guessed.
  4. I think you might be right. This season they've given up 3, 7, 14, 7, 35, 7, 7, 7, 7, 14, and 6 points so far tonight. The 35 was to OU, which is tied for the least they've scored this year. And it's not like they're doing this against bad offenses, BYU and Utah are both averaging over 35 ppg. If they hang on it will be interesting to see if they get in over an undefeated Boise St, who's giving up under 10 ppg themselves. EDIT: Or they can give up a TD drive after I talk about how good they are.
  5. I don't find it on my DirecTV listing. ESPN says its on CBS, which its not. Thought maybe VS or Fox Sports Southwest, but nope. I live freaking 30 miles away from TCU, figured I would be able to watch it tonight. Oh well. It's on CBS College Sports, which used to be CSTV I think. I doubt you get it unless you have an expanded sports package or something.
  6. I forgot about the need for an at-large team to be in the top-14. The second best Pac-10 team is Oregon at No. 24, the second best Big East team is UConn at No. 25 (South Florida is tops at No. 23) and the second best ACC team is North Carolina at No. 22. And if OSU loses again they might drop down which would mean the BCS bowls would have no choice but to select two non-BCS schools, assuming there are two in the top-14. Yeah, a lot still needs to happen, but having 6 non-BCS teams in the top 20 that are in position to take up top 14 slots helps a lot. Boise, Utah, and TCU should be rooting for BYU, Ball State, and Tulsa to help keep the Minnesotas and Michigan States of the world out.
  7. Boise plays some crappy teams the rest of the way, so I doubt they lose again. Even if they lose and everyone in the MWC ends up with another loss (also unlikely) Tulsa and/or Ball State would end up in the top 16 with an undefeated run. At this point I'm not sure you won't get 2 BCS busters if Ohio State gets another loss and no one in the Pac8 steps up. And I don't think there are 4 BCS conference at large teams that deserve a spot over Boise St. or Utah when you consider the Big12 and SEC are limited to 2 bids each. 6 conference champs, Big12 and SEC at large, Ohio State, and then who? Also, I apologize in advance to anyone who gets Iowa State-Oklahoma State as regional coverage. If USC wasn't playing Washington it would probably be the biggest blowout of the day.
  8. Iowa State has the worst defense in the Big12, and that's saying something. Probably looking at 0-8 unless they pull off a major upset. Countdown to basketball season has begun, but it probably won't be much better. PS: Go Zona
  9. PSU -1.5 is my guess. Fairly non-scientific. Looks like lines are out in a few different places now. I'm seeing it anywhere between PSU -1 and -2.5.
  10. Icing the kicker just backfired on Oakland bigtime.
  11. PSU -1.5 is my guess. Fairly non-scientific.
  12. Mistake? Guessing this should be Oklahoma State.
  13. they gained 800 yards!!! They must be angry that they were undefeated and still unranked. Looking very likely that a mid-major gets into the BCS this year. Utah has a tough road, but Boise St. could be double digit favorites in every game from here on out. Ball St. and Tulsa are also undefeated with weak schedules, and if TCU runs the table they'll be in good position too. It's also pretty likely that either the ACC or Big East champ won't be in the top 12, so the entry bar will be lowered. And the score at the end of the 1st quarter was 28-28, that's insane.
  14. This. If the spread for all Wazzou's Pac10 games was 43 they'd be 1-3 against it.
  15. yeah well i hope voters are intelligent enough to figure out that a neutral field loss against the #1/#2 team in the country is a lot better than a home loss to ole miss or a road loss at oregon state. I'm at an OU board right now and this is a guy's top 10: Voters do some crazy things, but if OU isn't in the 4-6 range I'd be shocked.
  16. Iowa State's backup QB, Phillip Bates, is transferring and has left the team. He probably wasn't going to start with the way Arnaud has preformed lately, but the timing creates some serious depth issues at quarterback, and takes away some creative playcalling opportunities. Would've been nice if he could have stayed until the end of the season, but I'll always have that catch against Iowa to remember him by.
  17. Bit of an understatement.
  18. Make that 17-3 Miami, I'll give you one guess as to the formation they just scored with. And if one of my local stations would switch from Bears-Lions and Panthers-Chiefs that would be great.
  19. Dolphins leading the Chargers 10-3 and Sage is 11-14 for 144 and a TD going to half. Looks like a late effort to salvage something from this crappy sports weekend.
  20. I was going to point out how they're only 5-0 now, but then I realized they play Mississippi State next week.
  21. Yeah. I can't remember a week this bad since...well, probably the ISU-Kansas game 3 years ago. If you told me going in that Iowa State would lose 35-33 I'd probably be happy, but considering they blew a 20 point lead and pulled another fake rally, it really sucks.
