Why would the Reds trade him? Because they are going nowhere, the market is thin, and Griffey's value will never be higher. They'd be fools to hang on to him. Exactly. If they are just hanging on to him for 600, then are going to trade him in the offseason or at next year's deadline, they aren't taking advantage of a big opportunity to improve their team. Normally I'd agree, but this thing has a whole lot of other consequences to consider. He's a local guy, his family has tradition with the Reds and he is their only drawing card right now. I don't think trading him to the Cubs if their first choice, even if they decide to trade him. I think it is 100X more likely they ship him out of the league and the division if they can. I say can because Griffey obvioulsy has to approve the trade. The Reds also aren't exactly known for making the smartest and best decisions. I just don't see it happening, but I'd be glad if it did.
