And there is no guarantee the OF will be any better WITH Fukudome either. I think the expectations for this guy are getting a little high. None of us really know what he could do yet. We know what he could do. Whether or not he actually accomplishes what he's capable of is the question. I don't think expectations are really getting all that high. Nobody has said he's going to contend for MVP or lead the team in OPS. Most are saying he should be a solid bat, that's it. We are reading some different posts then. I have seen many pretty much pinning the hopes off the offseason, and 2008 on his signing. If he even comes to the states, and if the Cubs give him, I hope he's great. He is an unknown to a degree at this point though. It's not a surprise that people are pinning their hopes on Fukudome when other potential targets for the OF includes guys like Shawn Green. I think most people recognize Fukudome isn't going to be a superstar here and his numbers will take a hit but he's more competent than a guy like Shawn Green now. I agree with all of that. But he could come over and put up a respectable .280/.350/.440 in his first year and I think many would be upset. Again, just based off of what I have read here.
