  1. One would hope. What in the world are we talking about here?
  2. Huh? Yeah, I broke the story.
  3. details to follow shortly.. XM is reporting that it is done. John Sterling, radio voice of the Yankees, all but confirmed it moments ago.
  4. Theoretical and severely lopsided message board trade ideas are the best comedy.
  5. I have a feeling this is just one of many threads we will see this off-season that have little or no truth in them. But hey, there isn't much else to talk about.
  6. Eric Gordon is pretty good... Indiana freshman record 33 points. 99-79 over Chattanooga.
  7. And there is no guarantee the OF will be any better WITH Fukudome either. I think the expectations for this guy are getting a little high. None of us really know what he could do yet. We know what he could do. Whether or not he actually accomplishes what he's capable of is the question. I don't think expectations are really getting all that high. Nobody has said he's going to contend for MVP or lead the team in OPS. Most are saying he should be a solid bat, that's it. We are reading some different posts then. I have seen many pretty much pinning the hopes off the offseason, and 2008 on his signing. If he even comes to the states, and if the Cubs give him, I hope he's great. He is an unknown to a degree at this point though. It's not a surprise that people are pinning their hopes on Fukudome when other potential targets for the OF includes guys like Shawn Green. I think most people recognize Fukudome isn't going to be a superstar here and his numbers will take a hit but he's more competent than a guy like Shawn Green now. I agree with all of that. But he could come over and put up a respectable .280/.350/.440 in his first year and I think many would be upset. Again, just based off of what I have read here.

  10. Nothing too earth-shattering here but an update nontheless. http://www.japanball.com/news.phtml?id=11144 Fukudome to file for free agency in Japan on Monday.
  11. Was listening to XM earlier this afternoon and they had a guest on who was speculating that Fukudome could stay in Japan and sign a deal with the Giants.
  12. Usually "bad character" guys don't scare me all that much, but Dukes goes way beyond "bad character."
  13. Was this actually what was said? Has anyone heard anything else? I know NSBB is not a place where speculation can get out of control or anything...
  14. Problem is, this wasn't a slam dunk surgery. It was exploratory. Who knows if it will be successful or not.
  15. I don't think trading Murton, by himself, would really bring that much in return. Murton packaged with others would bring more, but it would be more dependent on who the "others" are I believe.
  16. Flashback about 4-5 years and this palce was bonkers for Matsui. How the times have changed...
  17. If that is truly Hendry's stance, I don't think it is unreasonable. Don't take that as a vote of confidence in hendry as an overall GM, but I think most GM's would offer the same kind of deal in this instance.
  18. Remember that they were all minor league free agents, so, if any team wanted any of them bad enough to select him in the Rule 5 draft, they could have just signed him as a free agent and not had to keep him on their 25-man roster all year. True, but there is more to the Rule V than just the major league portion. I imagine some of these guys would still be eligible to be drafted during the minor league portions.
  19. And he's crazy if he thinks he's going to get 7 million to play next year. He'll be lucky to get half of that. You really didn't think he was a selfish, me first kinda guy before reading that quote?
  20. They could move ARod back to short. Even if he's not as good there as he once was, is anyone really going to complain with the offensive production he'd bring? Damn, Hendry, at least give it a shot. I'm sure Hendry would love to give it a shot, but I really doubt it is up to him.
  21. All of those guys will be rule V eligible, so ALL of them may not be back.
  22. It goes w/ production by position too. I'm happy with Kyler Burke though. It's still a stupid system. Rotoworld is going off on it as well, Carlos Silva doesn't qualify at all, but Troy Percival, who only threw about 40 innigs does. Also, Mike Lowell (somewhat understandable) and Robinson Cano ranked higer than A-Rod.
  23. *sidetrack* There is something seriously wrong with the FA system if Barrett is considered a Type A. I know they take into account more than just last season..but wow.
  24. No offense to Mr. Fukudome, he may turn out great. But I'd be fairly disappointed if the Cubs committed their entire payroll increase to a mystery man from Japan. I know numbers are good, but that is far from a guarantee as we have seen with others.
  25. i have no idea, surprised somebody didn't pick up on this sooner. It was posted around 5 AM.
