  1. My god. Kaplan and Rogers talking about bunting on the radio. Kap ranting about not being able to get a bunt down. He thinks Maddon would call for a bunt with anyone on the roster. They even brought up the Sveum bunting tournament. Ok...sure.
  2. Flying into town tomorrow morning with my 8 year old. He is already losing his mind. Will be there for both games this weekend. Hoping this is the start of a new Cubs experience for his generation of fans. I'm trying to restrain my excitement somewhat but it's hard when I see him so jacked up.
  3. I'll be at Wrigley for games 1 & 2 with my 8 year old. He has been to many games, but nothing quite like this. He gets some mild social anxiety in crowds. He's fine during the game, but he gets himself worked up when leaving. Anybody have any tips for getting out of there after the game? I'm thinking of just chilling in the seats and letting people file out. I realize this will cause a backup in getting a cab/train/uber. We are staying downtown. I think I might just wait it out for a while and walk a few blocks to a restaurant or something and get a cab/uber. Just curious if anyone had any better ideas. Apologies for the random question!
  4. Moore seems like a guy that they can work the count against and eventually get to. He walks about 4 per 9 innings. He, like Lackey, hasn't pitched in a while. He did close the season with some good starts, but this is a guy a patient Cubs lineup should be able to exploit. I would think there is a decent chance of seeing Samardzija at some point tonight as well. The pitcher dongs have been great, but it's time for the rest of the offense to produce some runs. Last night was fun, it really was. But, hopefully this series doesn't go any further.
  5. Assuming the Cubs take care of business, I really don't have a huge preference either way. Wouldn't mind seeing it go 5 games though. That would likely guarantee Scherzer/Kershaw wouldn't go game 1.
  6. I emailed my rep yesterday about it. I'm leaving town Saturday morning to take my kids to Disney World (Back before game 1 though!). Really need to get them before them before I leave town. I believe you have to sign for the package, so it makes it a pain if you aren't going to be around. I wasn't given anything but "they will be mailed this week and you will receive the tracking #." Last year I received the tickets and then an email with the tracking number the next day.
  7. In a perfect world, Contreras eventually becomes Lucroy offensively. I do think the Brewers would make the Cubs "overpay" to an extent. I do think Lucroy would be a tremendous fit for this lineup, both this year and next. I'd probably move Contreras for him but I understand why some wouldn't.
  8. Yankees fans are morons. They are getting potentially the next Jeter and at least the next Castro for 2 months of a wife beater. Pretty good return. I'm not sure calling Torres "potentially the next Jeter" is the best way to make an argument that Yankees fans are morons.
  9. The kid would have been in high school. We all grow out of t we liked in high school as we mature. I think it's great. I probably hated that Cubs team too...yikes.
  10. My wife commented the other night that Lackey resembles Seabass from Dumb and Dumber.
  11. I'd bet on Heyward being in there. 14 ABs is nothing really. Only 3 strikeouts in that span as well. Heyward is essentially starting April like he always does, slowly. His career line in March/April is 223/315/394.
  12. Well isn't that interesting. Am I the only one picturing Fowler's entrance WWE style? "Oh my god...Dexter Fowler is here!"
  13. Rosenthal discusses tv deals and the NL Central a bit in his latest article. Summary is that the Cardinals, in his estimation, have the capacity to sign a guy like Price and a Heyward/Davis. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/jordan-zimmermann-signs-with-detroit-tigers-hot-stove-rumors-free-agency-cubs-cardinals-112915
  14. Kaplan said window, I should have clarified. As pointed out above, I think he meant maximizing resources while Arrieta is still under control for two more seasons.
  15. From Kaplan, and any necessary precautions that entails: Cubs and Samardzija have obvious mutual interest, but many teams on Samardzija, "won't come cheap" Doesn't see Price as a realistic option. Will command too much $ Cubs in on Lackey, might take 3 years if they want him. Cubs are trying to move Montero. Might not happen, but trying. Open to trading Castro/Baez, or both in right deal(s) Definitely looking into Miller/Teheran/Carrasco types. Definitely in on Heyward, think he can handle CF. Says Cubs feel like they are in a 2 year window, citing Arrieta for two more years and want to be as well suited as possible for those seasons.
  16. I remember speculation about Pollock and the Cubs during the draft. The Hendry/ND connection was the main driver behind that. The Cubs never got the chance, he went 17th in 2009 and the Cubs went with Jackson at number 31. I remember a lot of the Pollock talk being met with some negativity at the time. Huh..I forgot that the Angles took Grichuk the pick before taking Trout. http://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/?query_type=year_round&year_ID=2009&draft_round=1&draft_type=junreg
  17. All night games now... https://twitter.com/juliedicaro/status/655056556682293248
  18. Tweet just now by Julie DiCaro saying Tuesday will actually be a night game. Haven't seen it anywhere else yet though.
  19. They played an afternoon game in Miami. Game 5 loss right before it came back to Chicago I think.
  20. Jay Jaffe with an interesting analysis on who the Cubs should root for tonight. If you don't want to read it, his opinion is that the Cubs would be better off facing the Dodgers. http://www.si.com/mlb/2015/10/14/chicago-cubs-nlcs-opponent-los-angeles-dodgers-new-york-mets
  21. lovely day, isn't it It's perfect. We've really lucked out on weather this week. Heading home tomorrow. Can't think of a better way to end our trip than with a win. I'll be quite the happy traveller.
  22. Just roaming the streets of Manhattan as my wife shops. Can't stop thinking about the game. I have no idea what she is buying and I don't even care. Been getting a few well wishes from Yankee fans along the way. Proudly sporting my Cubs hat and shirt in NYC. 5.5 hours to go...
  23. I will be in NYC that evening too with my wife. Anniversary trip. She didn't even protest the idea of catching the game somewhere. No plans yet on where exactly to go. Jersey gave me some suggestions that I am exploring.
  24. I see it as Friday: Liriano vs Haren Saturday Cole vs Lester Sunday Burnett vs Hammel( but maybe Arrieta moves up to this spot because of the off day Thursday?) Depending on what, if any, concerns there are about Arrieta's workload I would have to think there is a decent shot of that happening. If so, Arrieta would throw: Tuesday vs. Milwaukee Sunday v. Pittsburgh (normal rest) Friday Oct 2nd vs Milwaukee (normal rest) That would give him 4 days (normal rest) for the Wild Card game on Wednesday the 7th.
  25. Schwarber's 2nd HR of the night in extras against the Reds.
