  1. IU really bungled that. I assume they were trying to protect Crean, but I think it is too late. I think he is on his way out one way or the other.
  2. Man that's basically like the entire list of interesting Cubs games in Cincinnati. I guess the only 2 other games I can think of are The Shawn Estes Game in 2003 and the day the Cubs clinched the division in 2007 (although it didnt happen until milwaukee lost after the game) I was at both the Estes game and the Farnsworth/Wilson rumble.
  3. My list: 2003: Clemens going for 300. Choi almost dies; Karros hits a bomb to ruin #300 2013: Rizzo's Cubs debut v. Mets 2015: Game 4 NLDS clincher against STL 2016: NLCS Game 1. The switch of emotions in Wrigley from the top of the 8th to the Momtero GS in the bottom of the 8th NLCS Game 2 2016: Game 3-4 of WS
  4. In watching the postseason home run video it just hit me how similar Baez Game 7 homerun was to his Futures Game homer. While those were some dark days at the major league level, it was fun to follow the minor league system and then get a glimpse of it in the Futures Game. You knew things would get better, but even I didn't picture a scenario of the Cubs and their young talent in the WS within just a couple of years.
  5. He just followed the following on Twitter: Jason Parks Kyle Schwarber Chicago Cubs And.... Tomi Lahren
  6. He does have a point.
  7. Per Rosenthal on Twitter... Obviously not an automatic physical. I'll save the "if" scenarios until he passes it.
  8. Is it wrong of me that I have absolutely no desire to attend this thing? About 10 years ago my mom bought me a pass. My wife and I went up for the weekend and each day I spent a few hours there (she didn't have a pass, she spent her time on Mich. Ave). I pretty much hated it. Lots of people, boring and predictable "interviews", awful Q&A from the audience, etc. I'm not really an autograph guy so that kind of thing wasn't a drawing card for me. I get why the Cubs do it. I can't imagine what the crowds are going to be like this year, but it isn't for me.
  9. I had completely forgotten about the 7 at bats from Ryan Kalish this year.
  10. As for Jay, the more I look into it I think he has potential to be a very productive piece. Before his injury last year in late June, he was slashing 296/345/407 for San Diego. His extra base hit ability is almost entirely built on doubles, so there is going to be a power drop off between him and Fowler. His splits against lefties in his career are almost identical to righties. That helps to offset the advantage Fowler had in being a switch hitter. Assuming the forearm is fully healed, I'm cautiously optimistic at what he can provide offensively in this lineup.
  11. This whole discussion has prompted me to review my tickets from last year. I sold in the neighborhood of 60 games by my quick math. I flew in 3 different times in the regular season for a weekend. These were in the summer and the higher priced/tiered games. The others were used by my brother in law and his family who live in the Chicago area. For the playoffs I attended 5 of the 8 games. I sold a lot, absolutely. I haven't asked my rep this directly, but I think considering my location I did as well as can be expected in terms of attendance. Some may agree others may not. Maybe that plays a role? I've also never bought a flex pack or even pre-sale concert tickets. But, if they decide to bump me at some point logically I can understand it, even if I think I am making a legitimately effort to be there.
  12. Cardinals received a competitive balance pick today, #74. Good for them.
  13. Are you in the Chicago area? Wonder if they treat that differently compared to out of state ticket holders.
  14. No idea.... Besides, I don't think a report of "Bruno" from NSBB will produce much of a result in the season ticket database.
  15. It helps that I have a brother in law in Chicago as well. He takes a decent amount of games each year. When I have to personally sell them on my own it is through Stubhub. I do find it odd that if the Cubs were to do this they wouldn't give an explanation. I'd be on the phone with my rep immediately.
  16. I sell most of mine since I live 5 hours away, mostly through StubHub. I probably made it to about 6 regular season games (3 trips) and made it to 4 home playoff games. This is a bit concerning. The sales last year were nice, but I'm still in the hole from where I started 6 years ago.
  17. I really hope the Cubs crowd, both the real crowd and the Internet variety, don't go all "trader" on him BFIB style. The man deserves to get paid, it just so happens to be the Cardinals that will be paying him. I'll have no problem remembering him as the guy who back pedaled after hitting the lead off homer in game 7. He better get a huge ovation next year.
  18. Flying in Saturday morning with my 8 year old. We will be in section 237 for game 4 Saturday night.
  19. It's definitely a break, but one that can only really be taken advantage if the Cubs take care of business tonight.
  20. I'm still 100% confident about this series. The further we get away from Game 2, the better I feel about it. Gonzalez went down and hit a pretty good pitch for a HR. The Dodgers threatened a couple of times, but the Cubs did what they had to do to stay in the game against a generational pitcher. Yes, it would be nice for the offense to get it going a bit, but I'm not making any indictments about them for getting shutout by Kershaw. The Cubs have done quite well against lefties all season, and with all due respect to Hill and Urias, I expect the Cubs to put some runs on the board against them. If they do so, I have no doubts that Arrieta and Lackey can do enough to get the ball to the bullpen with a lead. I'm not quite ready to start the "must win" hot takes, but in terms of putting them in a good position to win this series I do think tonight is a key game. Being ahead 2-1 after tonight heading into tomorrow's game (with Lester lined up for Thursday) would be huge.
  21. Chris Young hit the very first pitch of the game for a HR. Imagine how deflating that is for the Cubs, sure you are down 0-2 but you are back home, its the first playoff game at Wrigley in 4 years, the fans are nuts, you just did your pregame introductions that gives the game that very important feeling, and then boom you are losing already. He needs to make things right by blowing this game. Come on OPR. That is exactly how it went down. I was there and had convinced myself things could turn around. The crowd really was great throughout introductions and even during that first pitch to Young. He hit it and the place went dead.
  22. How can they be smiling? They must not have read the game thread yet.
  23. Stealing this from Sheehan on Twitter. Outside of Kershaw, Dodgers starting pitchers have recorded one out after the 4th inning in the postseason.
  24. I think I blacked out on the Montero grand slam. I had just leaned over to my 8 year old son and mentioned that we saw Montero hit a grand slam last year (against the Dbacks?). I said something like "maybe we will see another one." He hit the ball and I think I picked up my son and started jumping around before it even landed. What a night and what a memory I'll have with my boy!
  25. Why on earth would you voluntarily listen to David Kaplan and Jessie Rogers talk about anything? Was just doing some work around the house and put it on. It's off now.
