  1. I don't know what people expect from Gregg. He has been solid and did a good job that inning not giving into Dunn and battling Willingham.
  2. I understand your concern, but Z is basically having his start moved up by 18 hours. It's not that much of a difference in regards to recovery. I'd agree with that sentiment if the Cubs didn't have any choice in the matter, but it irks me that the Cubs have some other options at their disposal and that Z could start on regular rest tomorrow. In my opinion, it's enough of a difference in terms of recovery that it's bothersome. Z's durable and a trooper, but I really am not a fan of taking risks with pitchers, even where those risks are relatively small, when other options are available. What would you have done Sunday in that situation? Not throw Zambrano? With ASB break upcoming, I don't think it is a bad move getting him two more starts, with only one if those on short rest. I'd rather Zambrano go twice compared to the other alternatives with STL coming in.

  4. In his defense, he's been a part of some terrible organizations since he left the Cubs. Baltimore, Cincy, and now Washington. It's pretty tough to change bad habits when you have coaches from any of those organizations teaching you how to get better at baseball. I hope he can turn it around and stay in baseball for a few more years. Are you seriously implying that the organizational coaches/instructors in those organizations are ALL clueless and incompetent? Seems like a pretty ridiculous statement to make without any firsthand knowledge. When idiots of the highest order regularly reach the pinnacle of coaching in their respective sports, I don't think it's a stretch to say there are a lot of incompetence floating around out there. We'll just have to disagree I guess. I know of several great coaches in the Bal and Cin organizations, can't speak of Washington. Its ignorant to blame an organizational coaching staff for the failure of a guy who hasn't had success anywhere. These guys know what they are doing.

  6. The Cubs could be in first but I'd argue they would still be mediocre.
  7. Yea I have no clue, Id rather see if Freel can continue hitting like he was at AAA at this point. Either that or call up Scales Right. May as well give Freel a chance at this point. He has more of a track record than Fontenot.
  8. He sucks. H's starting to remind me a lot of Gary Matthews Jr, the Cub years.
  9. I haven't really seen anything encouraging from Bradley since the season started. He takes quite a few pitches, but it certainly isn't resulting in much of anything resembling offensive production.
  10. Theriot has been a bit strikeout happy lately.
  11. Drew Storen's dad is former XM MLB host Mark Patrick.
  12. Zambrano's arm angle is very, very low tonight...
  13. The Cardinals are a quality team. I think the Cubs are better and should win the division, but STL is my pick for 2nd place.
  14. The only point I am trying to make is that we are not qualified, from this perspective to determine if an umpire if failing. If it was a safe/out call then fine, you can see that. With calling balls and strikes, you can't tell from TV. Everybody who watches baseball thinks they are a qualified evaluator of umpires, most are not. You are a teacher also, what do you think when parents, or anyone outside of your profession tries to evaluate your skills? I agree generally that the umpire has a better view of balls and strikes. In fact, I felt most of Dempster's pitches were off the plate by a hair, but they were closer to the plate than the strike to Theriot for example. Furthermore, I'm not calling for the umpire to be fired or anything. I'm just bitching about him. Others are always evaluating my skills. And unlike umpires, I actually have to listen to their concerns. Oh the fun I'd have if I could deal with parents and outsiders with the arrogance of a MLB umpire. . Amen brother.
  15. Just have to disagree on this one, but nothing wrong with that. Bottom line is Dempster needs to throw strikes and have a quick inning here.
  16. Be nice if Fukudome can keep this up all year.

  18. Dempster has never had pinpoint control. We all know that. The umpiring wasn't THAT bad. Sure some pitches went the Cardinals way. Dempster can fall into this trap from time to time. It is nothing new. Still early, plenty of time to come back but he has to get back in the zone and keep the ball down. Most of the strikes he was getting were up in the zone.
  19. DId you not see the strikes called on Theriot and Fukudome? They were worse pitches than the pitches to the 7th and 8th hitters from Demp Thats the way the game has been for 100 years. Dempster has been a bit wild, thats all. You refuse to admit that the umpire isn't giving both teams the same strike zone, don't you? Im saying its more Dempster's fault, not the umpires.

  21. Umpiring isn't the reason, its walking #7 and #8 hitters. Comes off as whining.
  22. Loving how some are convinced they have a better view of balls and strikes from an off centered camera, 500 feet away.
  23. Read the new book "As They See Em". Umpiring is far from lucrative, these in the minors barely get by. There as about as many appointments to the Supreme Court as there are MLB umpiring openings too. Also, don't call them "Blue".
  24. Lee is just a tad late on those inside pitches he keeps fouling back.
  25. I love Theriot when he is shooting those balls the other way. I'm probably the only one around here who thinks that though.
