  1. I hope not. Theriot strikes me as a guy that could be exposed as an everyday player. I think the ebst fit for him is his current role. DeRosa would be a very expensive utility man.
  2. SIU and Illinois are my two favorite teams. I'd just like for them to play each other though because a matchup between the two has been overdue. Probably won't happen either. BW doesn't have the balls to schedule them.
  3. Just curious... What have you seen from Illinois this year against a quality team that has led you to believe that they would win "pretty easily"?
  4. i noticed this as well...what a jagbag You have never misspoke before? Be a little more critical why don't ya? sure i have...but speaking on national television isn't my job. also, i'll be as critical as i want to be...who are you? his brother? Yep

  6. Let them be pissed. I don't think its a stretch to have IU as a 7 and MSU as a 9. After all, if IU wins they have to play UCLA in Sacramento...same thing.
  7. Maybe he'll have the courage to actually stay until the game is over this time as well...
  8. Is there any chance Amaker isn't fired? He's been terrible, how has he lasted this long? He makes Mike Davis look like John Wooden.
  9. I don't there is any room to critcize the Cubs here. Hamilton has played something like 14 games, all at the A-ball, in the last 3 years. I know he's talented, but something tells me he's not THAT talented. Talented enough to make abig league team and be productive after practically not playing for 3 years. He was never really a Cub anyway, as someone mentioned before.
  10. Does it really matter?
  11. You should be teaching if you have a room full of students!!!!!! At least look at NSBB on your planning period, like I am doing right now :)
  12. The Cubs did just fine against RHP last year. LH threats aren't nearly as necessary as overall threats. The Cubs sucked against LHP last year, due largely to players like Jones who were completely worthless against them. But you do need SOME left-handers in your lineup. I'm not saying it has to be 5RH/4LH, or vice-versa. Late in the game against a closer, who in this division are mostly, if not all RH, it would be nice to have some guys from the left side with a little bit of power. Yeah, it would be nice, but not necessary. If you are replacing Jones with Pie, you are keeping the same number of LH bats anyway. No way Pie puts up the numbers Jones did last year. Jones might even not, but I still think the low-end projection for JJ would outweight the high end of Pie as a rookie. I just don't think its necessary to move him, especially for another guy with a history of arm problems. The Cubs have that market cornered already.

  14. There is no reason to trade Jones right now, he is pretty much the only LH offensive threat in the lineup. I know some don't buy into that, but you need to have at least some balance in your lineup. Jones did just fine last year. If Matt Murton would put up a .500 SLG with 27 HR people would be wetting themselves.
  15. Because it's fun to say Fernando. What were the problems that Patterson had at second fielding wise? I'm just wondering since he would be a nice player to have at second and I've read about this possible switch to the OF. IMO, they are largely overblown. I think he had a bad week and a half stretch where he had multiple error games, but was fine before and after. I do think I've read he needs to work on his feet, but I think most of his errors were throwing, but I could be wrong. Just because someone is getting charged with an "error" does not necessarilly mean they are good fielder. There could still be plenty of bad habits visible. Playing 2B, if footwork is a problem, that would be something that could hold him back.
  16. That's horrible baseball! Now if he scores on a SF or a grounder I'm going to be mad! Hehe...
  17. Is there sarcasm here that I am missing? not at all... he's hitting .400 and DeRosa is hititng .125. The answer is clear to me. Sam Horn was a Spring Training All-Star, it doesn't really mean all that much. they haven't even been playing a week yet. I think Patterson has good potential, not great. He will be the 2B sometime soon, hopefuly if he cna improve his defense. I wouldn't write DeRosa off after a handful of Spring Training AB's. Disregard all that if it was sarcasm, btw.
  18. Excuse me but it's your patella, not your knee cap. :D Whatever it was, it hurt like hell
  19. I dislocated my kneecap my senior year of high school. Was playing first base, there was a throw from SS on the home plate side of 1B down the base line. I crossed over with my right leg (left-handed) to go for the ball and my left kneecap completeed detached. It was literally floating on the left side of the knee socket. The only sound I can compare it to when it happened was the crunching of peanut shells, somethnig you might hear as you walk into Texas Roadhouse or something. I doubt I will ever have anything more painful happen to me than that. I don't know the extent of his injury, too early to tell now with the swelling. I had to have surgery to re-attach it. This happened in April, but by September I was working out again for baseball in college. It has come out once more since then, but quickly went back in place. My knee hurts just typing all of this...
  20. Yeah, Wilmont bailed them out big time. They would have to really screw up to lose the #3 seed in the Big 10 Tourney though. Finish up at home against PSU on Saturday.
  21. Thanks! I'm hoping Yahoo! Sports or some other outlet gets a hold of them. The "Getty Images" name ruins the pics. Buy one cheapskate! :D Sadly, Photographers and companies have to do that thing because it is so easy to steal copyrighted images on the Web.
  22. this picture is such an accurate metaphor for the usefulness of small-ball since the end of the dead-ball era. The Cardinals fan husband tells me that this is George Kissel, who a quick search reveals is 96 years old and has been with the Cards as a minor league coach and hitting instructor for 66 years. Evidently Branch Rickey brought him on board and he's been around ever since. Kind of like the coaching version of Yosh. :) The caption reads: George Kissell is a great man. I basically grew up hanging around the dugouts of the Cardinals AAA team. From when I was 6 to about 15 years old. It is amazing I didn't turn out a Cardinals fan. Kissell would always remember my name, how he did that I hae no idea. He would throw me BP, work on my fielding, basically anything I wanted. And it was a thing where I didn't even have to ask, he would seek me out. He is the definition of a "baseball man."
  23. Personally, I'm not a big drinker. If I am going to Wrigley I am going to enjoy the game, not get trashed. The few times that I have had bad experiences at Wrigley is because I was surrounded by drunken idiots. Give me a hot dog and a Diet Coke, and let me watch the game. Am I a loser?
