Adding Contreras to the deal better at least get Gore or Abrams but I'm sure it won't. Going off Brett's guess: Cronenworth, Myers (+$$$), Morejon, Weathers, lottery tickets? I dunno. Maybe we somehow get Grisham and our CF issue is solved.
That's cool for Sam. I always liked him as a player and he rose through the ranks quickly after he retired. I met him at Phillies spring training in 2018 when he was an assistant/coordinator for them. He was loading his stuff onto the team bus and I called out to him and he dropped his stuff off and came back and signed for me and chatted for a minute. Nice guy and really hoping he does well.

[/tweet] Had some good numbers in the minors as purely a reliever. Saw his fastball sits in the mid 90s. Not a bad cheap depth pickup, which I'm sure we'll see more of.
McCann has been good the past two years but a four year deal for a catcher like him seems wild, I dunno. Bodes well for Willy's market I suppose. I assume he wouldn't go until Realmuto is off the market but he should be next.
Just trying to figure some horsefeathers out. Would we be able to live with trades like this/are these realistic? Contreras to the Phillies for Kingery, Damon Jones and Ranger Suarez Bryant to Nats for Robles, Tim Cate, Mason Denaburg
I don't want to trade Wily but it makes sense given the raises he'll get soon and #PTR. Can pair Caratini with someone like Jason Castro and some other depth. Amaya will be ready in a couple years. If he goes to Toronto in a deal, get Jansen or McGuire as part of the return. I'm mostly just trying to make sense of this horsefeathers offseason.
I've gradually started rooting for/following the Phillies since I moved here years ago and I've thought about them as a trade partner various times the past couple years. It makes a lot of sense. I've liked Damon Jones awhile (homer ish, I met him in Reading and he signed a ball for me) and he has intriguing stuff as a lefty and is a little buried on their depth chart. Ranger suarez is another who has interesting stuff but nowhere to really go there.
Renato Nunez a surprising non tender by the Orioles considering he isn't that expensive and as a power bat who isn't useless defensively could prob have been a trade candidate at the very least.
The deadline to protect players is tonight. As always, AZ Phil has the goods https://www.thecubreporter.com/2020-rule-5-draft/0 Abbott and Morel are good calls on being added. I'd also like to see Duncan Robinson, Keegan Thompson, Dakota Mekkes added. I def think we're losing an upper level reliever or two.
Maybe I'm being naive but I don't think they NT Schwarbs and they hang onto KB at least for now given his stock is so low. I'm expecting them to trade Contreras for prospects and salary relief though and let Caratini take over until Amaya is ready in two years. I could see them spinning Kimbrel's second half positively and getting a team to take on his contract for a nothing prospect but considering brad hand was let go, idk how realistic that is. Might just be stuck with him.
Let's get horsefeathering wild. What do you do? Sign JBJ and LeMahieu. Add to the pen, some good relievers on the market. I'm honestly fine with the rotation including Yu, Hendricks, Alzolay and Mills but really need a good No. 3 starter. Revamp the bench. Give Nico a little more time in the minors. Or maybe there won't be a next season and it's all a mess.
