    once the cubs clinch, don’t we want the cardinals to then start winning to lock in the 5 seed, which would guarantee the cubs playing the marlins? *assuming we want to play the marlins vs the reds/cardinals.

    yeah, it doesn't really apply this season since every hitter sucks, but last year it seemed like you could have replaced every cubs hitter with an objectively worse statistical hitter and the team would have somehow scored more runs.

    so the cubs will finish with a div record of 22-18. cardinals are currently 19-16, so if they win 4/5 vs brewers they will have that tiebreaker. next tie breaker is last 20 div games, and i'm not gonna look that up, but i'll assume it's awful for the cubs.
