  1. if weaver's really interested in a one year deal, the brewers should jump all over it. could get the team to 90 wins, but if he doesn't you could trade him at the deadline.
  2. ok, those were gigantic pics. how about just the links... got these over the weekend at the i-cubs fanfest... reggie seaver carew aparicio
  3. when did hairston whine about playing time last year? and if he did whine, would it have been in the papers? :-k
  4. how many signs did he miss last year? i can't find that stat (SM...MS?) on espn's stat page. also, how were is SM numbers compared to walker's? I wouldn't bust anyone's balls for that one. The whole damn team missed signs like crazy last year. It was sickening, and it got worse as the season went along. I wish they would keep stats for that, it would have further highlighted how pathetic last year's team was at times. yeah, but he's basing his statements solely on a couple quotes in the media. he has no idea how many signs he missed and how many everyone else missed. it's also pretty obvious that dusty finds ways to keep guys he doesn't like on the bench, and i'm not so sure this wasn't the case with hairston and the missed signs.

  6. i never saw sammy sign much during ST, but one day he sat on the grass and signed like 10 balls while he stretched and then threw them into the crowd. i'll have to take a picture of my den and post it...the wife is going to regret giving me control over that room! i'll be getting reggie jackson, carew, seaver, and aparicio this weekend at the i-cubs fanfest.
  7. There's no way the Brewers can win 95 games. That being said, the Cards are still the favorites and the Cubs need them to come down to the 90-win plateau. The Cubs and the Cards have a chance of winning 90 games, but not the Astros or Brewers and certainly not the Pirates or Reds. i don't know how you can say there's 'no way' the brewers can improve by 14 games, but that the cubs 'have a chance' to improve by 11 games.
  8. Couldn't agree with you more. They were at .500 last year, honestly what have they done so well this offseason to push them into WC or Division champs? the cubs were below .500 last year, and what have they done to push them into contention for the WC or the division?
  9. but w/ no title to show for it. :D as long as we're talking draft date, i'd like to put in a request for it NOT to be from 3/17-3/23, as i'll be at ST. obviously, i'd do my best to make accommodations if it had to be during those dates. I'm still trying to decide which week I'm going. But at least now I know which week NOT to go. :) damn right.

  11. seriously. i love the guy, but at this point, i wish hendry would just trade him. i don't know if i've ever seen an untouchable 26 year old 7th/8th starter. at least the cubs would be trading high for once.
  12. too bad he's too big of a puss to actually play in the league.
  13. in my opinion, the outfield's in trouble even if murton, pierre, and jones stay healthy all year. it has the potential to be one of the worst outfields in baseball. if they got someone like floyd, you'd have to make murton the 4th OF. you could start him against all lefties, either for floyd or jones.
  14. the autograph lines are chaos...at least they were in '04. you get in line for a guy you may want, but by the time you get up to the front, there may be someone else up at the table. for example, i got in the line for santo in '04. santo came and went. patterson came and went. i got billy williams five minutes before he left. if i had got in line 10 minutes after i did, i would have waited (and you're standing the whole time, by the way, and they won't let you get in and out of line for restroom breaks) three hours + for jody davis' autograph. nothing against him, but that kinda would have sucked. the cubs convention isn't the autograph haven some think it is. it involves a lot of waiting and even more luck.
  15. i love hearing hendry throw out francoeur's name...as if a guy like that would EVER get the shot in chicago that he did in atlanta. comedy.
  16. some interesting quotes...the convention should be quite the show... glad to see the media continuing to criticize the cubs' offseason... hendry's really going to be hearing it if the cubs don't get off to a good start...
  17. wow, for everyone saying how patterson's career started downhill in 2004, compare his #'s that year to jacque jones' in 2005. corey in '04: .266 ba/.320 obp/.452 slg/32 sb jones in '05: .249 ba/.319 obp/.438 slg/13 sb those #'s get jones a three year deal? :pukel:
  18. what do you want him to say? 'i suck. i can't get on base, i strike out too much, and i'm incredibly lazy. maybe i should quit.'
  19. tejada in MMP would have really helped my fantasy team.
  20. i think i'm most going to miss there be eight threads about him in each forum.
  21. don't forget sisco. it's the cubs' m.o. to trade low.
  22. Tribune shareholder? it would have been incredibly stupid of hendry to offer patterson a contract, trade him for scraps, and give the o's money to take him when he just could have non-tendered him.
  23. i can't see how anyone in the organization deserves much credit for a 100 mil payroll team that finishes under .500 and in 4th place. tough to give out many kudos in that situation.
  24. that's disappointing news about coats. i thought he looked much improved at ss last spring.
  25. then i guess we just view the brewers' players differently.
