That's framing the argument in an unflattering way. The bases are loaded, a big hit all but wins the game, the pinch hitter will be used for defensive purposes(especially when Zambrano exits and Pie can enter, further eliminating the need to save pinch hitters). Plus, Barrett is still available as a good RH pinch hitter if things go bad. i hate to see jones face lefties as much as the next guy, but i feel like ph-ing there would be over-managing. i wouldn't have pitched a fit had murton ph, but i have no problem with him staying on the bench. of course, i would have started murton to begin with.
