  1. saying it's time to win and doing things that will actually lead you to win are two different things.
  2. greg brady supports slavery! go kansas.
  3. I've only been out there for one ST and tickets were so easy to get. I wouldn't worry about it. There is lots of room to sit. And tickets are cheap. If I recall, like $6ish. tickets are not $6, and there is not lots of room to sit (unless you want to sit on the grass in the OF, and even then, i wouldn't say there's lots of room). if you want good seats to cubs home games, you should try and get them asap...i usually go after them the day they go on sale.
  4. even with his shortcomings in the intelligence department, hendry still has quite the advantage in the $$$ department. it'll take more than a savvy gm to get the pirates to the top of the division.
  5. man, crappy free agents are expensive. arod looks like a steal at $30 mil/year.
  6. your story about how he beat a fan's ass doesn't really help your crusade to boost his image.
  7. In other news, Juan Pierre is the same player as Alfonso Soriano (w/ exception of power). Wow. Excellent comparison. Juan Pierre, who might fall into 1 HR a year and Alfonso Soriano who will typically hit 40+ HR to Cedeno who might hit 10-15 HR vs. Greene who will top out around 25 HR. Bravo. Way to go to an extreme to try to make somebody else look bad. U R awesome. cedeno might hit 10-15 HR per year? in what universe? the one we currently live in?
  8. ok, i forgot all that stuff. now what?
  9. pretty off-topic here, but did anyone see that story espn ran about the two colleges in delaware (i think) that never play each other in football? one school was predominantly white (so they say...i saw lots of black guys when they showed footage of the team) and one school was 100% black. anyway, the white team wouldn't schedule the black team in football, and espn did this whole story about it, heavily implying that it was based on race, which made no sense. the white team played the black team in like 15 other sports each year. some AD or something from the white team was like "we can't fit them into our schedule until 2015," and some guy from the black team was like "if they want to play us, they should make it happen," or some such ridiculous thing, as if the white team could just change their agreements with other schools just so everyone wouldn't think they weren't racist. i kept waiting for some hammer to drop about how the AD at the white school was a klan member or something, but they had nothing of the sort. then the story was over, and they completely painted the white school like they were a bunch of racists or something because they didn't want to play this other team from their state. it was crazy.
  10. Because of course baseball didn't matter until 1983. we get it, you like ty cobb.
  11. yeah, i'm doubtful hendry would give an expensive, fairly long-term contract to a crappy player too.
  12. and that oppose batting helmets, night games, goatees, and the forward pass.
  13. ouch. good point...i hadn't even considered that possible nightmare. i guarantee you hendry can easily dig up some kind of all-star game or batting average related quote for that guy.
  14. i heard the first part of that interview, but turned it off when i could tell they were about to have a lengthy (and pointless) conversation about instant replay. sounds like hendry voted against it, as he claimed he was more old school (shocking, i know).
  15. what has hendry done to give you such confidence? Because this build up of middle infielders just doesn't make sense. If this Matsui thing is even true. a lot of what he's done doesn't make sense. that's why the cubs haven't been very good during his tenure. i also don't see hendry wanting to trade derosa. what with this versatility boner he's had lately, you'd think derosa would be the apple of his eye.
  16. what has hendry done to give you such confidence?
  17. thank goodness i got to hear stephen a. smith's patented everyone is racist self-promotion last night on espn. i was dying to hear what he had to say on the subject.
  18. the amount of money the cubs will have invested in pure crap next year could really be used to pay a good player.
  19. i haven't doubted your ability to correctly pick the 5th place finisher in the NL cy young race since you so shrewdly pegged don gullett for 5th in 1975.
  20. i was fine with arguing for rich hill's greatness before he was great, but i didn't think i'd have to continue arguing for it after he became great. i'd say you're being fairly liberal with the use of "great" here, and you know i'm one of rich's biggest fans on this board yeah, i was joking. though he was probably a top 15-20 starter in the NL...and that's w/o factoring in how cheap he is.
  21. i was fine with arguing for rich hill's greatness before he was great, but i didn't think i'd have to continue arguing for it after he became great.
  22. instead of trading arguably our most valuable pitcher to fill the OF hole, how about just signing someone to play the OF? that way we won't have a gaping hole in the rotation.
