  1. You can't just look at the runs scored to determine a bottom line. i wasn't. i was looking at the baserunners he allowed, and that number was actually pretty good in 3 out of his 5 starts.
  2. at this point, who cares about how quick he is to the plate? he was very slow to the plate last year and he did just fine. tinkering with his motion to speed up his delivery was probably what started this whole mess.
  3. Right. Because nothing was in the strike zone. It's encouraging that he's throwing more strikes, but it's against a really low level of competition. the level of competition is really irrelevant. whether it was albert pujols or a cardboard cutout standing at home plate, his problem was throwing strikes. it'd be one thing if he couldn't throw strikes AND he was getting hit all over the place, but that clearly wasn't the case.
  4. looking back at hill's game log, it is kind of surprising how short his leash was. 6 ip, 4 h, 3 bb, 2 er (good) 3 ip, 3 h, 4 bb, 3 er (bad) 5 ip, 3 h, 3 bb, 1 er (good) 5 ip, 3 h, 4 bb, 2 er (decent) 2/3 ip, 0 h, 4 bb, 1 er (terrible) now obviously things fell apart once he went down to AAA and maybe he was heading toward a collapse the whole time, but other than failing to get out of the first inning once, he certainly never killed the cubs in any of his starts. and even in that start, he only allowed one run. certainly his walk rate was unacceptable, but when you consider how few hits he gave up, it wasn't a disaster or anything.
  5. opponents were hitting .191 against hill this year, fyi.
  6. i like "headcase" as hill's new nickname. "one pitch" was getting old.
  7. Until they have Gallardo back, they're not completely healthy. well, they're not getting him back this year, so they're as healthy as they're going to get this season.
  8. i'm game.
  9. yeah, i never got the excitement over having 15 really good exempt players.
  10. i'm going to be pissed if anyone trades anything of value for the 16 year old.
  11. six straight w's for the hand sanitizers, who should get a boost from soriano's return and liriano's inevitable call up (20 ip, 10 h, 0 er, 24 k's in his last three starts). only one game out of first!
  12. damn, that was going to be my afternoon entertainment.
  13. gotta love having a game worth following that starts at 10:30 am.
  14. Crossed the line? Are they making dead mother jokes? 9/11 cracks? Is it just one giant Aristocrats sketch? as told by Bob Saget It's more like "going to be fun when Harden hits the DL and all the Cub fans start crying" kind of comments. you have a very low (shallow? quick? what am i looking for here?) line.
  15. buddiga has trimmed his DL from six down to five, which is a good start and all, but...
  16. i know his dad posts here, but come on.
  17. well, that's pretty vulgar.
  18. hendry finally sold high!
  19. Jeter and its not particularly close. Just look at the RC. It's almost laughable. Theriot 2008 RC/G: 5.2 Jeter 2008 RC/G: 4.4 MCGOOBWNED Not even close. You cannot look at a half of a year's worth of data. Look at the runs created for their career each year. Jeter got off to a terrible start this year. yeah, and jeter's 34 years old.
  20. That man has a tremendous amount of forehead. if the cubs hadn't traded gallagher and marquis sucked in the 2nd half, they'd go with marshall...who is the same guy they'll go with if marquis sucks in the 2nd half post-trade. i don't think he realizes the cubs got two pitchers for one.
  21. It's exteremly tough to find that kind of data at rookie league games - MiLB.com lists it in their box scores for AAA and there are announcers and many fans at games at other levels who could keep track of that but that doesn't happen in the AZL. That info would have to come from the coaching staff, probably into a local Chicago rag's story on Hill. Or maybe AZPhil at the Cub Reporter could provide it, had he taken note of it. AZ Phil does a pretty good job reporting on such things. How do you know that? i'm assuming he can count. Have there been previous instances in which AZPhil has provided pitch counts? Was Vance there to validate the accuracy of the pitch counts? It just seems like an odd thing to say someone is good at. and i thought your previous arguments in this thread were pointless.
  22. well, i'm not surprised i have three top 15 SP's, but i am surprised that they are duchscherer, dempster and danks. if you would have told me none of hill, wang and liriano would be on my roster in july, i'd have guessed that i'd be in last place.
