  1. i like how he makes a point to not mention ramirez as if "oh yeah, i guess they lost him, but he was so bad, it's not even worth mentioning."
  2. or they can just sign fielder and not have to worry about that stuff.
  3. It's more than just about him being fat. It's about trying to match up his best years when we're going to be competitive. If we're signing him while accepting the fact that we still won't be much more than an 80 win team next season, then likely his best season as a Cub was just wasted. Also, a lot of posters seem okay with the thought that the end of the contract won't be great for Prince personally, so there's 2-3 wasted years of a huge contract. It's just a bad time. But yes, fat players have shown more of a propensity to decline sooner. good luck lining it up perfectly so that a 27 year old elite hitter at a position of need is available as a free agent EXACTLY when the cubs are going to be ready to compete. especially in an offseason when you are not competing against the pocketbooks of the yankees, red sox, mets, dodgers, angels, white sox, phillies, etc. especially in an offseason where the cubs have a ton of money coming off the books. especially in an offseason where the cardinals and brewers each lose elite hitters. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. ideally, yes, you would prefer a grand buffet of superstar free agents EXACTLY when the cubs are primed to be competing for a world series. however, this is living in a fantasy world.
  4. if we're not going to win till 2015, we should probably see about trading castro as well, to be honest. a huge portion of his value is getting lots of wins out of him while paying him less than a million dollars. if we're just going to waste all those years anyway, we ought to see if we can get future value for current value we've no use for. yeah, it would be pretty depressing for the cubs to waste the cheap years of the best young hitter they've had in a million years.
  5. if the cubs are going with the "don't try to win until 2015" plan, they sure as hell better trade marshall.
  6. yeah, i'd rather buy prince fielder.
  7. i don't understand who the smokescreen would be attempting to deceive.
  8. has there been talk of the payroll going down next year or am i imagining things?
  9. huh. thought it was lower than that. carry on.
  10. it was, what, $110 last year? has there been any indication it's going to go up this year?
  11. where are you getting the idea that the cubs' payroll next year will be $130 mil+?
  12. will be a pain in the ass to keep him on your bench 1/3 of the season.
  13. isu's OC leaving to be qb coach at ohio state? huh?
  14. which is not necessarily a dumb thing to do.
  15. pretty sure you don't pass up albert pujols because you have mark trumbo.
  16. their payroll has never gone over like $60 mil...i don't think they've "gambled" a whole lot.
  17. If a chronic gambler triples his paycheck at the craps table a few times in a row, it doesn't mean it was a good bet. wow, that's a shitty analogy.
  18. i was on board with this trading for sanchez idea until i realized sanchez is going to be 28 and he's not very good.
  19. maybe you just don't get it. it's like "walk," but it's "talk."
  20. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.
