  1. Maybe I'm skeptical/pessimistic, but I'd like to see Rusin there the full year to make sure he's at the appropriate level. From college to a few games in Boise, to Daytona, I want to believe, but I'd like to see a good full season, let him open in Tenn next year, and maybe promote him then, mid season, if needed to AAA. I know that's somewhat a double standard compared to McNutt, but I am wrong in assuming that the talent jump from low-A to high-A, is much smaller than high-A to AA? But Dolis vs. Archer? You could argue either way, I suppose. The general wisdom is that the jump from A+ to AA is the biggest one in the minors. I have always thought and heard that as well. But according to Daytona Cubs manager Buddy Bailey, he believes the biggest jump may be from Low-A to High-A. Take it for what it's worth. He has managed at about every minor league level.
  2. This was a pretty funny home run call when Kyler hit the 3-run shot last night. Listen to the commentary leading up to the call. http://varsityteamsports.com/burkehrcall525.mp3 **Audio courtesy of Christian Bruey, Daytona Cubs Baseball and WROD AM 1340.
  3. Brett Jackson with his first homer of the season!
  4. From listening to the announcer, Burke hits more balls on the nose with the least results I've ever heard of. Off the wall, caught at the warning track, or right at someone.
  5. Listening to the announcer, the D-Cubs are hitting the ball on the nose. Just right at people. Maybe that's a good sign, and hopefully they'll start to find the holes.
  6. Rhee gives up a quick HR to start the 2nd...
  7. Rhee 3 up 3 down in the first. JAckson and Burke line out in the first.
  8. I love these 10:35 games in DAytona! Gives me something to look forward to at work! Go Cubs!
  9. looks like box scores are up now. dolis had a really good game: 5 ip, 2 h, 0 r, 0 bb, 5 k. b jackson is 0-2 with a walk and a K; lemahieu is 0-1 with 2 walks, burke is 0-3, vitters is 0-3 with 2 K's, lake is 0-2 with 2 K's. Where are you seeing them? Wonder if it has anything to do with me on a Mac and using Google Chrome? Ok, I see it now...they just had to work the kinks out I guess...still it ought to be available there in the top right of the team page where it shows the pitcher/batter.

  11. looks like box scores are up now. dolis had a really good game: 5 ip, 2 h, 0 r, 0 bb, 5 k. b jackson is 0-2 with a walk and a K; lemahieu is 0-1 with 2 walks, burke is 0-3, vitters is 0-3 with 2 K's, lake is 0-2 with 2 K's. D-Cubs with only 1 hit through 7...they'll get it going.
  12. This new layout for MILB.com sucks. No in-game box score, horrible link structure and navigation....completely took a step backwards in user friendliness.....Who can we complain to????
  13. Don't have all the details, but in Daytona last night: Vitters 3-run HR Smailey borges 2-run HR Burke 2B, 3B, BB Jackson 2B Nelson Perez 2-run HR
  14. Does Daytona not keep any of their website stuff that up to date?
  15. No game specifics (except Nelson Perez's homer), but here's an article from the Daytona Beach News-Journal about the exhibition last night with Embry-Riddle: http://www.news-journalonline.com/sports/baseball/2010/04/08/daytona-blasts-erau.html
  16. Walter's State is a junior college in East Tennessee and a Juco powerhouse with a lot of tradition. They won the Junior College national championship back in 2006 and have been a nationally top ranked team for many years.
  17. I know it's too late now, but the MGM...
  18. I tried not to come off as a brother who cannot be objective (as a coach I know family members can't be), but it's not the rankings, just the reasoning.
  19. It's not that I don't respect Jim as a person. I question a lot of their info. And honestly, it boils down to Baseball America tries to cover high school, college, minor league and big league players. I don't know exactly, but that's well over 5,000 players!!! It's just impossible to get good, accurate info on that many players. So I realize that, but don't just make up reasons and facts...
  20. I figured as much. Both Vitters and Samson had rave reviews of their experience in the DR last season. Do you have an idea who might be headed down there? Burke and Ridling, and I think Flaherty. Maybe two more also. I'll update soon.
  21. Callis missed on many points here, but since many of you know who I am, I'll hit on the Burke issue. Here's the deal, a list like this is only someone's opinion. So I won't dispute not having Burke in the top 20, but I'll definitely dispute the reasoning he gave in his chat. I subscribe to Baseball America, but I have to question their credibility year after year as I see things like this. To save time and to keep from re-writing, I'll post the email I wrote to Jim.
  22. There will be more Americans going down there again this year AFTER Mesa instructs...
  23. I heard yesterday who it is. Can't say though! :-$
  24. I heard he threw 26 straight sliders the other night.... ](*,)
  25. yeah sounded like the kernels made a good play to rob lemahieu of a hit right before that. yeah my bad,i left that out!
