  1. Burke leads off with a single in the 9th... Rosa hits a 2 run bomb to left to tie the game! 4-4 in the 9th!
  2. Agreed they haven't done much tonight, but given the Chief's offense on the year, I wouldn't rule them out only down by two runs with two innings to play...top of the order coming up in the bottom of he 8th!
  3. I think in people's minds Burke is "old" simply because he's been around since 2006. But as I've said before, he came from a low caliber of baseball area in Chattanooga, TN...he played high school baseball using an aluminum bat where you can hit a lot of HRs if you've got power and sub-par pitching. He skipped college, and entered pro ball way over his head. He's struggled at times, but he has stayed focused on his ultimate goal - to get better each year and to ultimately make it to the big leagues. Each time he has struggled, he's still shown potential that we all hope will develop into a big league prospect. He's a student of the game, always looking to improve. And from knowing him, I would bet my yearly salary that there are few players in Minor League Baseball that have the work ethic he does. On a different note, I just think it's great that our system actually has some prospects to talk about! It's good that there is discussion and controversy over who should be in the top 10!!!
  4. According to the PJ Star, in addition to Jackson being out, DJ LeMahieu will be the everyday shortstop for the Chiefs in the playoffs. http://www.pjstar.com/sports_chiefs/x2056230444/How-they-stack-up
  5. I hope for Jackson's sake it wasn't Sandberg....he's probably your Cubs manager of the future...very near future... I sure as hell hope not. That's got disaster written all over it. I'm not saying I agree with it or not, I just have this feeling that it will happen sooner rather than later. It seems clear to me that Hendry has that ultimate goal, and Sandberg just has to put his time in first...which he's been aggressively promoted so far.

  7. The Chiefs actually have one more game today @ Clinton at 2PM CST. But Rebel and Kyler both got the day off, so you're end of season stats are correct!

  9. For some reason, it's just not as fun when Peoria doesn't play. :(
  10. Burke getting some love from MILB.com: http://img.skitch.com/20090830-rx1ntmac3t655yth49k48airc.png http://img.skitch.com/20090830-8wiq27sup1y48wn635uxb2gebj.png
  11. Just a night off. Pevey will be getting his regulars a few nights off before the playoffs. Ridling and Burke in particular haven't really had but about 2 or 3 nights off over the past 3 months. From Inside the Ivy yesterday:
  12. No Cubs made the AZL post-season team.
  13. What more does Logan Watkins need to do? Lame. The 2B that made the team, Vincent Belnome, is blowing it up with the power numbers. If he wasn't in the league, I have to believe Watkins would have made it. Name Team POS G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG OPS Vincent Belnome EUG 2B 64 232 53 69 16 1 10 44 117 52 55 0 0 .433 .504 .297 .937 Logan Watkins BOI 2B 62 238 45 83 14 2 0 27 101 25 25 11 5 .414 .424 .349 .839
  14. On a related note to Boise, is it discouraging that nobody on their team has more than 3 HRs? Or is that irrelevant at this point in their careers?
  15. Northwest League Post-Season All-Stars SS Hak-Ju Lee OF Jose Valdez
  16. Peoria is on fire right now wow. Wish our big league club could take some notes. You know, just for the heck of it, the Cubs should swap the entire Peoria and Chicago rosters. You know, it really wouldn't hurt anything at the big league level. It would actually make for some great national publicity. But then again, we wouldn't want to do that for Peoria's sake...they're in the hunt for a playoff run and it might kill their chances... ](*,)
  17. Second time in 8 days Kyler Burke is getting some love from BP - looks like the national publications are picking up on his strong season too: Burke torments my soul.. Is it that he has been there three times, or is it that he has turned a corner?? I dont know... I don't know if it ultimately matters. The first time was when he was 18 with Fort Wayne (Padres). It was ridiculous to send him there straight out of high school in the first place - especially as "raw" has he supposedly was. I think with Burke it has to keep going back to being young and inexperienced. Comparing the successes of him the last two years to a Flaherty/Jackson type is like comparing apples and oranges. Burke entered the MWL after playing four years at a high school in Southeast Tennessee. The others played at large universities in top tier conferences in college. Just my two cents.
  18. Yeah, when I posted that, it had not yet been updated...my bad. It was crazy listening to it - I was ready for a brawl! :flame:
  19. Chiefs manager Pevey ejected as well. Now Quad Cities pitcher, Jonathan Gonzalez hits Burke...must not have been intentional..no ejections, no benches cleared.
  20. And Chiefs pitcher, Manolin De Leon, is ejected after the first pitch of the inning sails behind the Quad Cities batter! The hitter, Frederick Parejo, charged the mound with the bat, but did not get ejected. I can't wait to hear more details from NAthan! Thought we might get a good fight in!
  21. B. Jackson hit by pitch (benches were cleared). Apparently 2 barely missed him, and the third pitch got him. He threw his bat down and took a couple of steps towards the mound. According to Nathan, the pitcher was definitely throwing at Jackson. And also according to Nathan, Pevey is pissed!
  22. HR Nelson Perez, 3RBI, HR HR Kyler Burke, 2-for-3, 4 RBI, 2B, HR
  23. That's actually very informative. Gives me a slightly different vantage point on the "technical analysis" front. I definitely see what you're saying now. I guess I haven't seen him play enough to conclude that he doesn't have CFer range...but back to my original thought - I never said he was a CFer...just a more-than-adequate fill-in if necessary.
  24. I don't claim to be an expert on this, but speed out of the batter's box and speed in the outfield don't necessarily go hand-in-hand. I thought we were talking about in the outfield. Sure, he's not the prototypical center fielder that hits in the lead-off spot, but he won't ever hit in the lead-off spot.
  25. From what I've seen from him, he's similar to Guyer as far as a corner guy playing CF. I'm glad to see him in RF over Perez (who despite the arm strength-best in organization, lacks speed and takes awful routes). Him, Jackson, and Rundle is quite a defensive OF. Burke is only an avg. runner, so his speed will always hurt as becoming a full-time CF'er. I don't think anyone has said Burke would become a full time CF'er. He is definitely a corner OF, but the comment was made above that he could be a utility OF that could essentially hold is own in CF if called upon. I guess it's not really an objective argument, and there's really no way to prove either way, but I would consider Burke's speed slightly above average for his frame and size. Just looking at the number, his 12 stolen bases aren't anything to write home about, but he's only been thrown out once. 92% isn't bad for a "power/middle-of-the-order" guy. And going back to what Nathan said, what he may lack in speed, he makes up with his routes and arm strength.
