  1. I dont think it look like a bad lineup, but you might have missed this part
  2. Well its a good thing Dustys there and not here, or surely Geovony Soto would be on his way to Ohio as we speak.
  3. slim to nil. While Cedeno has sucked big time at the big league level, including his imfamous caught steeling on a ball 4, his AAA numbers are enough to intrigue a lot of teams, especially with the low price and hes only like 24.
  4. Sounds to me like they may be grooming DeRosa for Rt when we get our new 2B/leadoff hitter.
  5. -Do not attack Bob Howry on the mound just because he gave up a massive lead. Scott Eyre in worse shape, and has less of a chance to catch you if you nail him and run off.
  6. While Hauffpauir may be tearing it up this spring, he has absolutely no trade value. He's a player that any team could have claimed. He's a non-roster guy that I think has been a minor league FA at least once. I'm sure his value has risen some this spring, but not enough that he'd be anything more than a throw-in. You're probably right, but after this spring, and the fact that he isnt getting any younger, it would at least be nice to see him go somwhere he at least has a chance of making the big league roster. I agree that it would be great for him to get a chance somewhere. He's a class-act and a super guy. He works hard and deserves a shot. I don't think there's a spot for him on the Cubs. But, I don't see him being an asset in a trade based on the fact that teams could have had him for nothing had they wanted him. There are cases in which a minor leaguer will be traded for just that reason, because the team feels they deserve a shot in the bigs, but not with them. I believe thats how we got the great Freddie Bynum, because Oakland felt he deserved a shot, but they didnt have a spot for him, and thus, the Bynum Era began.

  8. Im surprised that Hofpauir hasnt been mentioned in this deal. Its petty obvious that whatever he did this Spring, there wasnt going to be a roster spot for him, and meanwhile, the O's have an aging Kevin Millar as their starting 1B, and while he does the trick for now, hes hardly the type of player whose going to figure into the future of a team who has a loooong rebuilding process ahead of him. Hoff, Cedeno, Gallagher, and Marshall/Veal for Roberts sounds fair to me. We realy dont have much purpose for payton anyway.
  9. Is there already such a thread? If not... Theriot Fukudome Lee Ramirez Soriano DeRosa Soto Pie Blanco Murton Hoffpauir Ward Patterson(Roberts if they make the trade) Zambrano Hill Lieber Lilly Dempster Marquis Howry Wood Marmol Eyre Lahey Hart
  10. Neil Cotts: Your chariot awaits. And by chariot, I mean plane to Iowa. and by plane, I mean cab. and by cab, I mean bus. and by bus, I mean hitchike. and by Iowa, I mean Peoria.
  11. Hes definitely making a case for himself this spring. We'll see what happens when it counts.
  12. Can you blame him? Think about it, aside from Zambrano, every Cubs prospect to hit the bigs during Dustys reign in Chicago was a bust, and while you can say what you will about him, you cant blame him for all of them.
  13. :-k I wonder what could possibly be the reason. They'll get plenty of playing time. After their traded for an aging player to be named later.
  14. What worked? That was just a little humor. Guess that didnt work either.
  15. Its funny, Blanco really does look like he could be Sotos father or ugly brother.
  16. Except that at best, Hoffpauir is a first baseman/corner outfielder. All of the guys you say he's "battling" are either middle infielders or can play center field, neither of which Hoffpauir can do. There's no question the guy can rake, but I just don't see a spot for him positionally; there's no room on the bench for two first baseman/outfielder/pinch hitters. Thats why you at least try him out in the outfield. Say the season opens, and Brian Roberts is still wearing orange. Then you Have DeRosa and Theriot in the middle infield, and you have your pick of Fontenot, Patt, Cedeno, and Cintron as a back up. Ward can do 1st and Rt. Like I said, at 28, Hoff wont get many more chances, so I say bring him aboard. hats the worst that could happen? Bring him up, and he sucks, and you send him down and bring up someone else. It worked for Jason DuBois.
  17. I know its just spring training, but hes making it harder and harder for Lou to leave him behind when the plane to Chi town boards. The only guaranteed bench spots are going to Ward, Murton, and Blanco. After that, he'll be battling Fontenot, Cedeno, E-Patt, Cintron, and Fuld, and he's looked better than all of them.
  18. Im not sold on Uribe as an improvement over Izturis.
  19. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_425768.jpg Wouldnt this one be better suited on a milk carton? http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_425840.jpg Now they just need to airbrush "Iowa" somewhere above his unibrow.
  20. Now if only Pavanos agent could be as creative when explaining why his client is getting free money.
  21. If offense were the only important thing, wed have to worry about Houston and Cincy as well. While we may not have a heart of the lineup like Milwaukie or Houston, we have the best all around team in the Central. Besides, how much longer do you think that Boras will let Fielder, one of his top guys linger in Milwaukie?
  22. VH-1 cant supprt every out of work 80's star.
