  1. For the record, I wouldnt even trade Cedeno alone for Teahen and his well below .800 career OPS. You need to have more than just a left handed bat to be a help to a team thats a legit playoff contender. Maybe if the Royals would take Marquis alone for him, and take on a significant chunk of his salary(Im aware that would never happen, Im just saying), Id take them up on it. Otherwise, just pay for Abreu.
  2. If they want a new RF, go get a good one. Otherwise, just put Fontenot at 2B and DeRosa in RF. No point trading for a mediocre player. If we can get DeJesus from them, Id be interested. Teahen? I wasnt interested in him when there was the possibility of getting him for Matt Murton, and Im not interested in him now. If Hendry gives up Pie for Teahen, between that and the Gregg trade and the Peavy fiasco, I'll officially jump on the fire Jim Hendry bandwagon.
  3. Will the Kyle Farnsworth similarities end here? Please God?
  4. Veal Papelbon Kroeger if not too late(minor league FA)
  5. Why must they torture us so? Why did we even trade Ceda, who a lot of teams would have been interested in for a 30 year old with 1 year left on his contract? If were going to do this, Josh Vitters will somehow be involved. Thats all fine and dandy, but 1 way or another, I need closure on this.
  6. The Padres arent going to want DeRosa. Nothing agaisnt DeRosa, but why would a rebuilding team trade one of the best pitchers in the game with 4 or 5 years left on his contract for super sub in the last year of his?
  7. Are they sure they didnt just scoop the taping of a Nickelodeon, or the Japanese equivelant movie?
  8. I'd trade Cedeno, Veal, and Marquis for Scott in a heartbeat. Id take a flyer out on that deal, however, I wouldnt be surprised if we could get Scott for Marquis alone, as desperate as the O's are for starting pitching, seemingly every year. Hes always been an >.800 OPSer and could possibly capitilize on Wrigley. You serious? Marquis has negative trade value and they're going to trade Scott (a guy who, by all accounts, the Orioles organization is in love with) for him? Come on. They're desperate for starting pitching that is actually good and helps them in the future. Not a crappy pitcher who is under contract for one year and owed over 10 mil. Your probably right, but you never know with that train wreck of an organization.
  9. I'd trade Cedeno, Veal, and Marquis for Scott in a heartbeat. 10. Im actually fairly confident that the 2009 opening day roster will look very similar to what we have now.
  11. Take out Vitters, and let them keep Scott and yes, sounds like a plan.
  12. No, but it's been reported that Milwaukee will entertain offers for him. Its pretty safe to assume that our offers, much less for our sorry ass prospects will not be entertained.
  13. Kind of interesting how as soon as the Braves bowed out of the sweepstakes, the Cubs discussions instantly ended as well. Maybe there was some truth the conspiracy theory that Hendry was just trying to help out Towers by getting the Braves to drive up their offer.
  14. Wed be better off with Edmonds over Griffey.
  15. Everybody hates NSBB. We're pretty full of ourselves. No its not that. We are just the biggest and most popular Cubs message board on the internet. Like all popular things, its cool to hate us. Yeah it is. There's about a half dozen posters on this board who are too full of themselves and give the forum a bad name. You mean the "we know everything you know nothing, go to Cubs.com" crowd.
  16. Since last I checked, this thread has tunred into one of those game threads gone bad that Outshined Ones had to lock before all hell broke lose. Please people, make the Jake Peave: Avalable thread a happy place. A place where people can take their children and their children can take their children.
  17. This post is a joke, right? Yeah, where's Harden and Johnson in that rotation? The DL, I'd imagine in that scenario. http://www.casinosonline.co.uk/images/bingo-pic.gif
  18. Ive always been interested in Kearns, simply because hes always smoked our pitching, and has had a good track rcord in Wrigley. If we could get him nice and cheap, Id be all for it. However, I dont think that the Nats would just give him away. Theyd probably want at least Sean Marshall, which would be OK if we end up re signing Dempster or another quality starter.
  19. This really is the Brian Roberts fiasco all over again The Cubs WILL trade for him. The Cubs will trade for him. The Cubs should trade for him. The Cubs might trade for him. A deal is still in the works. Talks are dead. The Cubs plan on targeting him again next off season.
  20. Atlanta already said they are out. They are moving on, and won't get Jake Peavy. I agree with the direction of your story though, but I think he'll end up on a different surprise team like LA. I can totally see the Dodgers come out of no where and steal him just like they did with Furcal from us. But it just depends on how much Towers really doesn't want to trade him within the division. I just don't get why no other teams are interested. Hendry needs to get this done as quickly as possible. That means nothing. Its just politics. If the Padres come back to the Braves, and agree to their tems, the Braves will jump right back in. Many other teams would be interested, but he had a list of teams hed be willing to go to, and of those teams, the Cubs and Braves have been the most agressive. The Yankees and Angels have also been interested, but Peavy expressed that he wants to stay in the NL, however, there is reason to belive that he could be convinced to go to the Yanks or Angels, as he has a strong desire to be with a contender, rather than some guys who are content with a team close to home, and I find that very respectable. I get the feeling that if Hendry truely has the desire, he can make a deal happen, but if not, he could just re sign Dempster and focus on getting a left handed bat.
  21. So if we were to sign Johnson, not get Peavy, and let Dempste go, and leave the rotation as is, you do all realise that for a big chunk of the season wed be looking at Zambrano Lilly Marshall Marquis Hill
  22. I still don't understand why you're under the impression that the Padres would want Gregg. He probably has negative value to them Your probably right, but Im just baffled about the Gregg trade otherwise. Greggs not particularly bad, and Im not saying that Cedas is the next K Rod, but he was one of our top trade chips, and we traded him for a guy who we really had little to no use for, with 1 year under team control.
  23. My trade preposal de-jour: Pads get: Sean Marshall Kevin Gregg Felix Pie Ryan Theriot 1 or 2 negotiable prospects Cubs get: Jake Peavy Khalil Greene Yeah, I know it sounds like every other preposal, substituting Ceda with Gregg, but there has to be some reason that Hendry sent one of his top 3 prospects and trade chips for a slightly above average 30 year old reliever with 1 year under team control.
  24. Seriuly, it shouldnt be that hard. Trade Gregg and whatever else for Peavy. Re sign Wood. Sign Abreu or Ibanez. Let Dempster fly.
  25. The way this crazyness is going, by the time Cliff Lee and Tim Lincecum are free agents, only the richest kings of Europe will be able to afford them.
