  1. the problem is that hendry is going to get nothing at all for him with the way he's handled it. Come on now, when was the last time the Cubs had a one time top prospect who seemed to have all the tools whose career didnt seem to be going as planned, and by the time the organization finally gave up on him it was too late to get anything for him? Never, thats when. In all honesty, I feel that Pie does have what it takes to be a productive, but not all star major league player, but with Fukudome and Bradley, it wont be with us.
  2. At least we wont have to worry about runing into Lowe in the playoffs.
  3. They also signed that Japanese guy whose supposed to be a number 2-3 type starter.
  4. At least with the White Sox, Kroeger will have a shot. They'll bring up anyone at least once if the perform in the minors.
  5. don't all Japanese players have a gimmicky delivery? no. A lot of them offer a free rangoon, but I wouldnt call that gimmicky.
  6. Isn't Ken a japanese name? now, Ryu is Japanese. Ken is his American counterpart. Yeah, but they're essentially the same guy.
  7. Why? Whatever theyd want would be whatever the Pads want, especially with the Rangers being such a pitching starved team, theyd want the same young pitching the Pads want. I guess the bottom line is our farm system isnt deep enough to land us 2 star players. Even 1 is a problem. Aside from that, our only really tradeably players, without NTCs and without eating a ton of salary are Marmol and Soto, which I would hope that JH would never consider givign up, especilly for a guy like Young, who would be somewhat of an upgrade over Theriot, but not enough to make him worth it.
  8. Id definitely take him over Theriot, the problem being, if we were to trade for him, we could forget about Peavy.
  9. Harden and Sheets in one rotation spells trouble, however, if managed right, it could work out. If they were both kept on short leashes, it would work out, especially since we have some relieversd capable of long innings in Marshall, Gudin, and maybe Guzman and Vizcino. Remember, Sheets was coming along very well last season until Yost started going nuts on him. You cant expect a guy with his injury history to be able to go 9 innings no matter how well he seems to be doing on that day.
  10. Heilman would immediately be the Padres #2 starter in a deal for Peavy. With Marshall their #3, Felix Pie their center fielder, and Josh Vitters and the 3 unknowns from the DeRosa trade in their minor league system.
  11. Wasnt Kelton supposed to be the next guy to hit .400?
  12. No, the logical move would be to trade for Jake Peavy and sign Beimel to be the LOOGY and shoot Neil Cotts. The Peavy thing would be the iseal move, but it's becoming more of a pipe dream than anyhing, and as I have previously stated, I wont believe any Peavy news until I see him in a Cubs uni at the press conference.
  13. It wouldnt be a bullpen upgrade, it would be a rotation downgrade. He'd get the number 5 spot, put up sub-Marquisesqe numbers while Sean Marshall is the loogy. What makes you think Heilman would go into the rotation. I don't believe MLBTR's lies, but I would do that deal yesterday. Because all reports have the Cubs looking for a starter, not a reliever, plus the fact that Heilmans been expressing his desire for a full time starter role for the last 2 years. The logical move would be to sign Beimal, who would come cheap at this point for the loogy, and give Marshall the 5th rotation spot.
  14. Because that organization is under management that is slightly better than the one in Baltimore.
  15. It wouldnt be a bullpen upgrade, it would be a rotation downgrade. He'd get the number 5 spot, put up sub-Marquisesqe numbers while Sean Marshall is the loogy.
  16. OK, Time to get back to the toic here. Walruses and buckets http://www.byrneunit.com/blogs/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/bucket1.jpg http://www.beldar.org/photos/uncategorized/2007/06/03/walrus_bucket2.jpg http://images.studio31.org/bucket/walrus.jpg In all seriousness, if there are any breakthroughs in the Peavy saga, every baseball related news/rumor site will have it posted at the top of the page, and you wont have to worry about sifting the throught the madness is the Peavy Thread II. And now, back to the Walrus. http://www.walrusbucketsaga.com/images/04-not-mah-bucket.jpg http://images.studio31.org/bucket/mahassociates.jpg http://images.studio31.org/bucket/walrusteam-kento.jpg http://www.walrusbucketsaga.com/images/81-shark_bucket.jpg
  17. I dont know much about Ricketts, but I already like him very much.
  18. Looks like he could be better, or at least not worse than Aaron Miles.
  19. Reed is worthwhile. The other two leave enough to be desired that they shouldn't be considered viable options for a supposed championship contender to fill in 40 games missed by one of its 3-4-5 hitters. Hoffs 2009 Projections: Marcel: 287/351/449 ZIPS: 286/323/505 Hoffs 2008 MLE vs righties: 317/350/610 I'm not saying hes going to be great or anything (and he needs to work on his defense in the OF), but hes a guy that shouldn't hurt you filling in on the meaty end of a platoon for a bit. Although, that would leave you with a big dropoff for PH in high leverage situations. I know you have to take these kinds of predictions with a grain of salt, but those numbers are a hell of a lot better than anything Burnitz, Jones, FLoyd, or Ward ever gave us, and I'll take it more than happily.
  20. Will Julio and Hoffman be any better than Mota and Gagne? Tune in this Spring and Summer to find out.
  21. This is the reason that celler dweller teams will never crawl out. It seems that all of the big free agents seems to go to the same teams such as Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Mets, Dodgers, Angels, Cubs(for now anyway) leaving the rest of the teams fighting for the scraps, and when they do make a star out of the farm system, it's only a matter of time before they go where the money is. Its partly the money and partly because a lot of these players would rather jump into a ready made playoff contender than becoem a major piece of a rebuilding team. Of course every now and then, a team will get lucky, such as The Rays, who brought up a ton of prospect who all panned out, but in the end, they'll only be able to keep so many of them around, and before long the Yankees and Red Sox will once again have sole ownership of the division. I know that Smoltz and Baldelli are far from top of the line free agents, Im just saying.
  22. Interesting. Shouldnt they first add a quality starter before an aging reliever? Of course, if the Dodgers really want him, they'll snake him. They've done it before.
  23. No. Baines was a greatplayer, as were Tim Raines, Don Mattingly, Andre Dawson, and of course, Ron Santo. However, it takes more than great to make it into the hall. Its reserved for the legen...wait for it...dary
